EARLY ACCESS: Mr. Smith Goes To Washington

Comments

Jimmy Stewart was a national treasure. After this movie and during the Second World War, he was a bomber pilot. He had to really work at joining up because he was so thin he didn't meet the requirements. He actually went on raids over Germany and rose to the rank of Lieutenant Coronel in the Army Air Force. he suffered from severe PTSD, but nonetheless, after the war he was in the Air Force Reserve and made the film Strategic Air Command which was a love letter to the Air Force. He was still in the reserves and even went on missions over Vietnam on B-52's. He retired from the Air Force Reserve as a Brigadier General in the 1968. He holds the distinction of being the highest-ranking Hollywood actor in US History. His dedication to the Air Force was like no other. He insisted upon no favoritism and volunteered for a lot of hazardous assignments in his career. Another good Movie of his was The Spirit of St Louis which was one of his better Aviation movies.

I'd suggest "The Philadelphia Story". Then she can get Jimmy Stewart and Cary Grant. Also a great movie!

Huge yes to both of these. I'd add "My Fellow Americans" to this as well.

I'm dying for her to see a Cary Grant film!!

Laura Neary Smith

Bobby Kennedy had something like nine kids, I think. (Yes, with one woman!)

Matt Blanchette

But if she loses her house, she'll have to live on the street, like Hitler!

Eric Janssen

How can you leave us, your fellow Tennesseans.

Mark Dunham

A Cary Grant film that doesn't get it's due Is 1947's The Bachelor and the Bobby Soxer with Cary Grant, Myrna Loy and Shirley Temple. It's worth a look.

Joseph Krider

Harvey and Destry Rides Again with Marlene Dietrich (think Madeline Kahn from Blazing Saddles).

As pointed out, James Stewart is not only the Dude From It’s a Wonderful Life, he’s the Dude From Rear Window, as well. Gee, guess it was maybe...th-the voice that tipped you off, as near as I can figure? (And, yes, Hubbens issues has helped you boldly pioneer another title where no reactor has gone before—Should probably consult with him more often.)

Eric Janssen

It's 100% pure Capra-corn -- and don't get me started on the ridiculousness of a Senator having ONE assistant -- but damned if Jimmy doesn't sell it like he always does. "and a, a little lookin' out for the other fella, too."

Paul Stelter

IF you enjoy at least the concept of this movie, gotta check out The American President and Dave.

Matthew Periolat

This is such a classic. Everything that James Stewart did was just so good. :)

Cosmic Slice

"MACARONI!" Lol

Jacob Colson

“Rear Window”! “Rear Window”! “Rear Window”!

Richard Meyer

Still giddy over Galaxy Quest! Now my new quest begins - Bringing up Baby! Followed by Some Like It Hot. Ashleigh has to watch at least one Cary Grant movie before SLIH.
