It was also Sigourney's idea to have a gradually disappearing outfit.

This is considered the "unofficial" Star Trek episode because it so very well represents the Trek fan base in all it's various stages. However, it is NOT Trek based. It is a Convention movie that incorporates the entire world of convention goers and their passions.

To answer your question on how long you can hold your breath in space, you would need to watch ‘The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy’

Hey! Some great movies to add to a poll. Pleasantville, Double Jeopardy, Sleeping With The Enemy, The Bone Collector, Mr. Holland's Opus, Where The Heart Is, Practical Magic and What's Love Got To Do With It.

The reason Gwen's costume is suddenly open is in one of the deleted scenes. She unzips to entice one of the enemy to come closer. This was probably also cut to get the PG rating as mentioned above; but I'm just guessing.
It reminded me of "King Solomon's Mines" (1985 version), where Sharon Stone's costume gets smaller and smaller throughout the movie, as pieces are torn off. It was one of those funny things that is never pointed out, but at one point you realize how much of the costume has disappeared and laugh.

Yes, that was not an "edited edition". I saw this in first-run at the theater, and they dubbed over the word.

I didn't know that about Tony Shalhoub's character, but I do recall Guy at one point asking "are you stoned?" which makes it even funnier now.

You asked if the convention was like a ComicCon, and the answer is "kinda." The con in the movie is just for Galaxy Quest. A comic-con, or a science fiction convention, would have lots of other stuff, too--Avengers and Star Wars and other movies and TV shows.

Thanks, I didn't understand Tony Shalhoub's character at all. Now it all makes sense.

Dreamwork s, in particular Jeffrey Katzenberg, became convinced that the movie had to be PG instead of PG-13. This meant editing out all scenes of Tony Shalhoub's character smoking a joint (in case you were wondering why his charcter seemed so out of it, he was a stoner), as well as the F-bomb. Director Dean Parisot was not happy with this demand, and made a point not to edit around it, so that everybody could clearly read Signourney Weaver's lips when she said the line.

I was never a big Tim Allen fan, but he's excellent in this. Still wish they didn't over dub Sigourney Weaver dropping the F-bomb. Read her lips. She didn't say "screw". Hahaha
