Now that you've seen Willow, you need to see the movies made from the books that inspired it - Lord of the Rings. To compare the two, think of a vending machine chicken salad sandwich (Willow) vs. the best meal you've eaten at the best restaurant you've been to (LotR).

Rewatching it now with you makes me realize that my love of it probably came from my massive crush on Val Kilmer (which is why I begged my parents to take me to see it in the first place). I enjoyed the watch along but I agree with you on the 3 stars and your reasons for that. One thing that did stand the test of time in this is Val. That man never fails to make my heart flutter when he smiles. Or speaks. Or looks into the camera. Or just breathes.
