When I saw this is what you had watched, I immediately had my Friday night planned out. π A very good way to kick off this years Hallo-Beans! I've always enjoyed the Scream series and I'm super glad to hear you enjoyed it so much.

Yep it was plausible Modems were common, even pre-internet, to communicate with work servers or BBSes, which were essentially self-contained forums that people would host on their home computers and dedicate a phone number to. A fairly standard feature of modems was the ability to make TTY calls, which is what deaf people use to speak on the phone. Pre-computer, deaf people would have something like a Ultratec TTY Machine Text Telephone and subscribe to a service that would have a person act as an in-between, reading your typed text to the person you want to call, and typing their responses over the phone to you. If you look closely, Sidney uses a program specifically for deaf people. Iβm assuming she knew about it and looked it up to message them, maybe she has a deaf relative or friend she talks to.
