Jim died in 1990 while in negotiations but with no contract. The two companies worked together with Brian having creative control. Disney bought rights to several Henson properties, but did not buy the whole shebang until 2004.

This makes me sad.

Travis Starnes

Uh... Jim Henson was always planning to sell the Muppets to Disney. :-/ They literally WERE Disney films right after his death.

Matt Blanchette

Even as a child, I loved Sir Didymous. He's my favorite. I also learned never to say "Piece of Cake". Things go to heck when you say that, lol.

Oouga

The blue door lied. Both doors lie. LOL.

Came in here to say a lot of the same things. The only thing I think you missed was Frank Oz who was the Wiseman in this movie. Oz was another creative genius that worked with Henson until Henson passed. He directed some films that I'm hoping Ashleigh will eventually get to like Little Shop of Horrors, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Death at a Funeral (the good Brit original).

If you're still wondering, the baby actually loved the goblins and they couldn't get him to stop smiling and laughing. He later went on to work for Jim Henson and most recently worked on The Dark Crystal TV series.

would someone please tell me how to get all these damn songs outta my head now, it confuses all the voices in there.

Ashleigh, knowing how important mental health is to you, here is a link to one of Jim Henson's favorite songs 'Just One Person' (sung here by his friends and cohorts at his memorial service. It's low quality. The one sitting on the stool is Frank Oz.) For anyone who needs a lift, Enjoy! https://youtu.be/yeEzQ4qwkgo

FYI - you can download the soundtrack to this movie from Amazon. Not that I have listened to the David Bowie song hundreds of times since this film was released...

R.I.P. Jim Henson. I still can't watch the various tribute performances without tearing up.

Your comparison to Monty Python was an appropriate one, as the film was written by Python's own Terry Jones. Also, like your 'Holy Grail' reaction, going in completely blind likely hindered your enjoyment of this film. Jim Henson was a creative visionary. He didn't see puppetry as just for children. When he wanted to 'The Muppet Show', no American producer would back it because 'Sesame Street' would not work on evening television. Henson titled the pilot episode 'Sex and Violence' to say that the show was targeted for adults. His ambition was to build complete, unique worlds. The bigger, grander and more complex the better. His first venture was 'The Dark Crystal' which had no human characters. I still love this film, but it is showing its age. The series 'Fraggle Rock' was next, and then 'Labyrinth', both which had a human character to ground them. Sadly, Henson died 4 years after this movie and his genius died with him. His son, Brian (the performer and voice of Hoggle) did a decent job of keeping the Muppets going after his death until Disney bought them, and IMO they've gone downhill since. Unfortunately, no one could see the universes that existed in that man's mind. The Henson group recently did a prequel series to 'The Dark Crystal' using practical puppetry and it was pretty decent, it just seemed to be missing something.

Ashleigh seems to have dumped the intro and outro on the watch along's since Titanic. You need to watch the beginning of the early access then the watch along and return to the early access for the end review.

Mark Conroy

Not sure if I'm going crazy, but there was no preview review on the full watch along. I think there normally is... right?

Murf

If you like David Bowie you should watch The Linguini Incident. While we're talking about musicians in movies- I haven't seen anyone ever recommend Desperately Seeking Susan - another 80s movie - starring a young Madonna. Both of these movies also star Rosanna Arquette.

Christine

I love when you say, "I hate that." It always makes me giggle.

Jill Peterson

YAY!!!!!!! I am going to watch this TO-DAY!!!
