EARLY ACCESS: Kill Bill Vol. 2

Comments

There is an alternate ending to Die Hard 3 on Youtube(and also probably on most DVD releases of the film I would assume)

Paul Johnson

I liked LFODH too....but I'm a big Mary Elizabeth Winstead fan so that might be a part of it....and yeah the 5th one sucked

Paul Johnson

I'm with Kenton. Die Hard 3 > Die Hard 2. I enjoy Die Hard 2 okay, but it's a pretty rote repeat of the original. My more controversial opinion is that Live Free or Die Hard is pretty fun, even though it's PG-13. There's definitely some bad CGI but there's also plenty of great real stuntwork (I won't say what it is, but the stunt that was in all the advertisements is a real [redacted] being flung into a real [redacted]). I also think Bruce Willis is good in it. A Good Day to Die Hard, on the other hand, is one of the worst sequels of all time.

Tyler Foster

Kill Bill Vol. 2 is not a sequel, it's a continuation (one story, 2 parts) Speaking of which, since you broke the 80's movies "rule" how about doing the Lord of the Rings movies, the 3 parts of which are also a continuation, not a movie with 2 sequels. And if you do it, make sure do the extended editions - I've watched many reactions to LotR and have yet see a reactor who wasn't glad they did.

Richard Maurer

Aliens superior to Alien? Not in my house.

Richard Maurer

Listening to some of your comments here, you might enjoy Natural Born Killers.

Eric Schuh

Respectfully disagree..I think 2 is much more action packed and suspenseful than 3

Paul Johnson

I remember reading that Dr Joyce Brothers' appearance as a winning contestant on "Question"(which brought her lifetime fame and TV appearances) may not have been strictly on the up and up

Paul Johnson

I feel your pain sir

Paul Johnson

Affirmative. The rest aren't too bad if you think of them as fan fiction. They have their moments.

Joe Blankenship

Actually Die Hard a lot of people would say if you're watching one sequel you should jump to three. Really the movie that brought Samuel Jackson to the mainstream.

Kenton Kruger

Yes to Die Hard 2! I loved it!

Paul Johnson

I think she thinks all the Terminator sequels would have to come next. Everyone needs to let her know that there are only two real Terminator movies. Everything else doesn’t exist.

Cal

On further consideration I’ll give you that one

Brett Delbridge

Don’t know about Die Hard but everything else yes. :)

Cal

Not sure where you got the impression that Vol. 2 tanked. It cost $30 million and made $152.2 million, which is well over the "3x the budget" rule of thumb (it used to be 2x, but now with back-end deals and profit participation, it's 3x) for a movie to be safely in the black. In fact, that puts it at almost 5x its budget before home video, which makes it an extremely profitable movie. Even if the argument was that it did worse than its predecessor, it didn't do THAT much worse, which made $180.9m on another $30m budget. It's also possible that $30m is an estimate, and that the budget of both movies is a little closer to $25. An Entertainment Weekly piece from 2003, before the movie was chopped into two pieces, says Tarantino was $11m over a $39m budget, which is only $50m.

Tyler Foster

Yeah, that's like a really big surprise that I think most of us would hope is preserved, so if you see these replies, I would edit your comment.

Tyler Foster

I had written a sentence about it being at the center of the Quiz Show story and deleted it before posting because I looked on Wikipedia and saw that it was "Twenty-One," like you said. I also need to watch Quiz Show.

Tyler Foster

Well, whether he actually goes out and MAKES the movies is another issue…. 😅

Eric Janssen

ok youre right about sequels. but terminator 2 is a must see. its the only other thats directed by james cameron. the rest are bad. but at least give the second a shot

Aaron Robert

You mean like Avatar 2 through 27?

Mark Sylvester

$64K Question wasn’t the center of the Quiz Show scandal, lookalike show “Twenty-One” was the show that brought the scandal to trial. Still, just mentioning it as a good plug for some reactor fan to think outside the box and recommend Ralph Fiennes in “Quiz Show” for a reaction.

Eric Janssen

SPOILERS!! Geez, man!

Shadowcat

Hollywood was all set to go on a “two-part” craze before the movie came out (“The audience saw the first one, they’ll HAVE to come back for this one!”), long before the days of Marvel, Harry Potter or Hunger Games/Twilight. But KBv2 embarrassingly tanked in theaters, because “real” audiences don’t go to see Tarantino films, and Pirates of the Caribbean 3 went over a cliff literally and figuratively after cliffhanging #2, it briefly cooled Hollywood’s urge for a while, and talked Warner into condensing Harry Potter 4 into ONE more smoothly-running film instead of two book-padded ones. And obligatory mention to do Terminator 2 anyway: Yes, every reactor does it, but while T1 was a nice little 80’s B-movie surprise, T2 was a MAJOR influence on 90’s movie history. It’s the time Hollywood finally discovered James Cameron after Aliens, and knew how to give him the keys to the studio and bring out the big-budget guns for him.

Eric Janssen

Basically, since you can’t watch downtown midnight-audience screenings anymore (now that the shopping-mall cineplexes closed the old antique big-city theaters), and the movie itself stinks, how about just saving time and watching the scene from “Fame” instead, for historical value?

Eric Janssen

Steven

In fact, Bruce Lee had pitched the Kung Fu series as his own mainstream vehicle for TV, but the network didn’t think that Lee could be a lead in the 70’s, so American actor David Carradine was cast instead. Things like this mean a GREAT DEAL to Tarantino who still wishfully lives in the 70’s. And for those of us who still wishfully live in the 80’s, Robert Carradine is the best reason for finally getting around to watching Revenge of the Nerds. (And didn’t Ash watch Keith in her copy of Nashville?)

Eric Janssen

Terminator 2, Diehard 2, Lethal Weapon 2, Aliens, all superior

Brett Delbridge

I worry more that I'm gonna run outta time before she gets to some of the ones I wanna see. And I'm not sure of how good the Wi-Fi will be wherever I wind up.

litesronno1shome

poor girls gonna have her hands full, literally, she's got another one coming in from Wisneski on the 20th.

litesronno1shome

So excited for Scream! One of my favorite movies, and my favorite horror movie ever!

David Crabtree

My favorite Keith Carradine movie is "Emperor of the North"(1973 AKA "Emperor of the North Pole") also starring Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine...excellent film

Paul Johnson

That's if I don't fall asleep

Vera Dawson

Well, if you're on here then you'll see Labyrinth a day early too.

Tyler Foster

Good point about snake I thought that the first time I saw this movie.

Vera Dawson

Oh, darn I work all day tomorrow thanks sweetie.

Vera Dawson

Patreon subscribers get the videos a day early, so this is technically tomorrow's video.

Tyler Foster

So if you doing it next Monday does that mean that you're doing it early preview on Sunday I hope I have Sunday off I don't remember and I hope I have Monday off too lol I have labyrinth and I would watch that with you at least I think I have labyrinth

Vera Dawson

I have fewer bits of trivia about this one, but I have a couple: "The $64,000 Question" was a TV game show that ran from 1955 to 1958, and became even more famous when it was embroiled in a scandal. When Beatrix says "I would've jumped a motorcycle onto a moving train for you," that's probably a reference to the movie Police Story 3 (aka Supercop), starring Jackie Chan and Michelle Yeoh, in which Michelle Yeoh performs this stunt for real. (Sadly, if you don't do sequels, then you won't be seeing this one!) I think the idea is that Elle is probably (probably!) killed by her own snake, since she can no longer see and it's established as still being in there. Also, Bill appears to live in some kind of hotel, as there is a valet and a front desk, so it's possible she won't be able to stay. She also doesn't know about or take Elle's $1m.

Tyler Foster

If you watch her monthly unboxing videos you'll see that she gets a ton of videos every month. She usually reacts to 8 or 9 movies a month but she will receive 20 to 30 titles on DVD or Bluray. And if she goes back in time to movies from the 50s and 60s she will have a over 60 years of classics to react to. I don't think we have to worry too much about Ashleigh running out of classics.

Bill Bevins

She should watch The Longriders to see all of the brothers in the same movie. They portrayed the Younger brothers.

Bill Bevins

I saw Rocky Horror back in the mid 70s at a midnight movie showing but it was before it became a big thing. There was no audience participation at all. While I liked the music, I found the plot kind of dumb and disturbing. But that was the perspective of a 19 year old straight guy who was kind of dumb about the world. Now, years later I get the appeal of the movie. But you definitely need the audience participation in a theater because without it, the film isn't as good or fun.

Bill Bevins

The part about the end that gets me is that when she takes her daughter, her daughter isn't questioning the whereabouts of her father. "Yeah! You are going away with mommy!" Kid: Okay. Cool. Don't you want to know where daddy is? Kid: I love him and all, but... I'm good.

John Williams

David Carradine is probably best known for playing Kwai Chang Caine in the TV series "Kung Fu" which ran from 1972-75...I loved it when I was a kid(and still do) I even had a Kung Fu lunchbox

Paul Johnson

GO PATS! :)

Paul Johnson

We gotta know...could Rowdy Roddy Piper get it? :)

Paul Johnson

An unrelated ( to the movie ) comment, but ... are you planning on branching out to related television programming? I ask because I can see you *eventually* running out of classic movies that you haven't seen ( or at least, the top 1/3 of them quality/following wise; you're watching classic movies faster than they're making them - they're probably making more television than you can keep up with ), and I'd love to see you diversify your content rather than have the channel run out of steam. I think you've got a *lot* of runway yet, so no need to make a choice *tomorrow* or anything, though. And also - another vote for Terminator 2. I think T2 is probably the peak of the entire franchise.

Vedexent

Terminator 2 is one of the few sequels that is a must see for anyone who enjoyed the first movie.

John Williams

I'm so glad you watched both Kill Bill Vol 1 & 2! Kindergarten Cop, Labyrinth and Scream are all fun movies that I think you'll enjoy, good choices!

Michael Waldrep

She's about to get flooded with "you gotta do T2" for suggesting that she doesn't need to see it. It's so good though!

Joe Blankenship

Terminator 2 is the best movie in the franchise! So much better than the first one. And one of the best action movies of all time. Even the special effects still hold up.

Joe Blankenship

Except Terminator 2 is better than the first and really is a great sequel. And Kill Bill Volume 2 isn’t a sequel.

Jason Nunez

Same here. Been a Patriots fan since the 60s. Still love Brady but he's like my ex now. Have a prettier, younger beaux now in Mac Jones. Who's your binky?

Bill Bevins

Bill is portrayed by Davis Carradine. The Carradine family has been active in film for 3 generations. David's father John is best known for acting in horror films including several of the classic Universal horror films. His half-brother Robert is known for Rebenge of the Nerds. Half-brother Keith has had a long career and has been in shows including Madam Secretary and Dexter. Keith's daughter, Martha Plimpton, was in the Goonies. Robert's daughter, Ever, is currently in The Handmaid's Tale. David made news when he was discovered dead from an instance of autoerotic asphyxiation.

Alexander Fish

I got a shiny rookie QB prospect to root for

ingibingi2000

Please do Terminator 2. One of the few sequels that is better than the original.

Timothy Estrada

Hi Ashleigh! Watch for a package in the mail from Crown and Paw, from the Lindsay family. Due to arrive on September 21st. :-)

Lisa Gosselin Lindsay

Watching the preview review, I can't help but suggest "They Live"... for the bubble gum. And ass-kicking.

Sinjoro Griego

Terminator 2 is the best sequel about a terminator EVER MADE! Fact!

Timothy Estrada

Shadowcat is right

ingibingi2000

It's probably already been recommended to you but I do think you'd enjoy "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" sometime.

Laura Neary Smith

Fans of Kill Bill would do well to check out James Rolfe's fan edit discussion. As good as this movie was across two volumes, he really does a great job of making things flow better while also trimming down the running time a bit.

Nestor Custodio

Full agree it's one of the rare exceptions, like Aliens was.

Kenton Kruger

K, Labyrinth and Kindergarten Cop? Finishing off the month strong.

Kenton Kruger

I agree with you about sequels but please watch T2. I think it’s better than the 1st one

Jennifer M

I know you said you don't usually feel the need to watch sequels, but you *really* need to watch Terminator 2. It's an absolute must!

Shadowcat

Love Tarantino. Now it is time for Jackie Brown, Django and Inglorious. Love your reviews Ashley and even got my daughter hooked on watching them now. Please say we get Rocky Horror this year. 🙏

MrBamaRed

Long month for those of us that aren't Kill Bill or Titanic fans ;) C'monnn Hallowbeans!!!

Kenton Kruger

Glad you didn't have to wait a year like some of us. Will do the watchalong tonight. Have football to watch during the day.
