Titanic watch along
Added 2021-09-12 15:27:04 +0000 UTCI was hoping I could have it uploaded in full today but I have been hit with copyright 8 times.
Thanks for your patience as I am still working on this.

Patreon does not host content. Whenever you watch a video on the Patreon website, you are actually watching an embedded link from a hosting site like Vimeo or Dailymotion.

2021-09-14 13:07:27 +0000 UTCNot sure if this will help but as far as I know, other content creators don't upload the watch along version to YT; it's watched on Patreon ONLY. Once you upload the watch along on YT they can hit you with copyright. Patreon won't. I could be wrong.

2021-09-14 01:37:26 +0000 UTCNo; some people online have done restorations in as high as 4K to the original theatrical versions. They're out there if you look for them.

2021-09-14 00:33:27 +0000 UTCThis copyright garbage is nonsense. Especially in the watch alongs where it’s a private link and does not show a frame of the actual movie. Who is actually being harmed, financially or otherwise? I hope you find a way around this, Ashleigh. ☮️

2021-09-13 15:22:09 +0000 UTCAshleigh... I sure hope you can get this figured out. Can't wait to see the rest of your full reaction to the film. After all, it is a modern classic and should be enjoyed by all.

2021-09-13 03:01:36 +0000 UTCIs the the only way other than maybe laserdisc to actually watch the original version of the movies?

2021-09-12 23:39:13 +0000 UTCwhat about a filehost like Google Drive?

2021-09-12 21:11:37 +0000 UTCAh, I. Didn't watch it because it was only the 1st half. The way she usually does it works fine for me, but I agree with your other comment that her showing the movie from time to time, even if it's tiny and in the corner of the screen, would be helpful.

2021-09-12 20:28:16 +0000 UTCThe first part had the entire movie audio, so I'm guessing the second part is the same.

2021-09-12 20:23:06 +0000 UTCIf it's like the first part, then the problem is that the audio is playing through the entire thing because they're watching on the TV, instead of Ashleigh watching alone in her studio while wearing headphones. I imagine the copyright strike is specifically for the Celine Dion song. Ashleigh - if it comes to it you may just have to mute that part and add subtitles of what you and Blake are saying....or do a little inception thing where you mute the reaction and you and Blake appear in another little box and re-create what you were saying, LOL.

2021-09-12 20:22:13 +0000 UTCI'm guessing the problem you're running into with the Copyright Strikes is when you actually show some of the movie for the first few seconds to help your viewers sync up. (Otherwise you're not violating any copyrights.) Do the Rifftrax approach. Rifftrax is a trio of comedians who make humorous commentary tracks for movies and sell them from their website (they're deeper than that, but that's another topic.) Anyway, you only download them talking and they tell you how to sync-up. They say that they're give a countdown and tell you to pause their track, start up your copy of a movie, and then at a certain point (usually after a studio logo that's part of the movie itself (and not the DVD/BD copy's addition) or when an early credit shows up and fades away unpause their track and you should be mostly synced up. And then occasionally throughout the movie they'll directly quote a line from the film to ensure you're still synced and if you're not you just pause whichever is ahead and let the other catch-up.) I would think this should prevent you from any strikes and should also help your viewers sync-up. (Instead of quoting a line you can have a timer or something.) These Rifftrax guys have done a Riff on Titanic and sell from the website free and clear and aren't selling a single piece of the movie. (Reasonably you should be "able" to show tiny part of the movie (like 20 seconds) without any trouble, but a Studio has to Studio.)

2021-09-12 19:52:52 +0000 UTCFYI - for anybody looking for the movie online, you can do a 7 day free trial of STARZ through Amazon Prime and you can cancel at any time. I think it's $ 8.99/month after that. Just search for Titanic on Amazon Prime and you'll see the offer.

2021-09-12 17:52:18 +0000 UTCHi Ashleigh - for future movies, when there's no audio for us to sync to, would it be possible to add an on-screen counter that shows the play time of the movie ? It would be easier to sync up. If not, could you add in short clips of the movie sporadically, like you do at the beginning and end, so we have a point of refence ? Sometimes it's difficult to match up exactly, especially if we have to pause for any reason because we have to pause the actual movie, and then your video, and if gets out of sync when we try to start up again. Even if you were to add just the video every once in a while, no audio, it would be helpful.

2021-09-12 17:27:59 +0000 UTCFor the record, as one of the people who had been expecting to do the full watch-along last weekend, I imagine it's not that important for it to be one video, just that it's possible to watch along with the entire movie. But maybe I'm wrong (I felt people were way more riled up about it than they needed to be).

2021-09-12 17:19:20 +0000 UTCFor the life of me I can't figure out how youtube could do a copyright block on a Video where you don't show the screen or sound. It's just a video of you talking.

2021-09-12 16:09:01 +0000 UTCI still have a tv with a cassette deck built in because I refuse to part with my 1980s Star Wars trilogy box set. The more George Lucas changes them, the shittier they get.
