EARLY ACCESS: The Titanic

Comments

This was incredibly charming, and this old married lady wishes you and your young man a million more years of weird fun.

Midge

Dead Calm is awesome.

Tyler Foster

I don't know how she'd react to Una O'Connor's screeching though! :)

Paul Johnson

No, but I can imagine George C. Scott as a German investigator, pursuing suspicions that a saboteur might have planted a bomb on board, with an entire shipload of suspicious whodunit suspects. Probably because I already have it on disk.

Eric Janssen

It got made back in 1975 -- and, amazingly, they used a shot from it in something Ashleigh's already seen: "Raiders of the Lost Ark". :-P

Matt Blanchette

When is the Hindenburg movie coming out!? Can you imagine a love story on a blimp that exploded!!?

Brett Delbridge

Ashleigh would LOVE that version of "The Invisible Man". :-D Claude Rains's giggling!

Matt Blanchette

I have zero problems with disaster movies and such, my issue with this one was it wasn't a disaster movie so much as a basic love story using a real disaster as a backdrop. That aspect made me feel it was disrespectful.

Kenton Kruger

Reminds me of my dad....whenever I said "go ahead" to him he would say "Who are you calling goat head?" :)

Paul Johnson

I thought it was OK...I just didn't go crazy for it like so many people did when it came out

Paul Johnson

It came in at the end of the 90's craze for Disaster movies, at the point the genre usually starts doing historical disasters, to "legitimize" themselves: Back in the 70's, Earthquake/Poseidon disaster movies gave way to 1976's "The Hindenburg", which is actually a pretty darn good overlooked 70's picture. As for Michael Bay trying to remake Titanic into Pearl Harbor, though, yes, that was unforgivable, but not necessarily for THAT reason.

Eric Janssen

Been saying for a while now The Longest Yard would be a great pick for more Burt Reynolds.

Kenton Kruger

Gloria Stuart who played Old Rose played the love interest of Claude Rains in 1933's "The Invisible Man"...she was 87 at the time of the film's release but did live to the age of 100

Paul Johnson

When we're talking "Maritime set movies with Billy Zane as the bad guy" I prefer "Dead Calm"

Paul Johnson

Let me preface this by saying I've got a lot of negative feelings about this movie. Personally, I hate it. I hated it without even seeing it because I hate the very premise of making a movie about a historical disaster that has such a negative conclusion. It's the same reason I've never seen Pearl Harbor either. Why would anyone watch a movie that anyone with a history book knows will end in absolute tragedy? Anyway, after everyone in the media fell all over themselves telling everyone to watch Titanic, I decided this would be one of my hills that I'd be willing to die on, and refused to ever watch it. It's unfortunate that it's taking up two weeks worth of episodes, but I'll meet you all for the other movies. ✌️

Andy H.

James Cameron seemed determined to have someone--preferably someone old, white, male and rich--to BLAME for the Titanic going down. (Oh, did we mention, girls can go up en pointe?) So determined, in fact, it backfires, and we're ready to believe it WAS simply an accident of poor ship structure, overloading and North Atlantic icebergs...Unless we want to believe that it really was all Jack & Rose's fault, for distracting the night watch.

Eric Janssen

I remember when we couldn't even remember the NAME of baddie Billy Zane's character--Whenever we talked about the movie, we just referred to "Snidely Whiplash". (Er, that's a cartoon reference, Ash.)

Eric Janssen

This is one way of getting me to sit through Titanic again 🤣🤣🤣

Stevilicious

Please check out another James Cameron movie that’s a companion piece to Titanic called “Ghosts of the Abyss”. It was Cameron’s trip back to see the Titanic.

Christopher

You two make such a great 'team'! Love the review and already looking forward to next week.

Reba Pieczynski

Hubben is right - Catch Me If You Can is fantastic! That would be a really fun watch.

Kate Cassidy

Omg!!!!!!!!! You two are so funny together 😂😂😂😂😂

Ashli Mays

My dad used to say it meant your head was shaped like a melon with the face of a collie.

Bill Bevins

That's my birthday, too. Turned 65 this year.

Bill Bevins

The 14th April is my birthday, I loved this 1st part of your reaction, looking forward to part 2. And I'm really excited for your Kill Bill reaction. 😁👍

Mandy Sherratt

Melancoly means Depression

Leigh Nathaniel Silver

Gotta be honest, I hated this movie. 45 minutes in, I started glancing at my watch. An hour and a half in, I was falling asleep, and would have if my girlfriend hadn't kept shaking me awake. I still give you and hubby some love, though. :)

Michael Sailor

You should see Kill Bill Vol 2 after Vol 1, because it explains Kill Bill Vol 1.

Michael Waldrep

Does this mean my assumption that next week will be 2 2-Parters between "The Titanic" and "Kill Bill Vol 2"?!?

James Falato

😂😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

this was DEFINITELY another Happy Accident 😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

I think “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” should be on your list to watch!

Michelle Denny

The reason why they don't like Kathy Bates character is that she didn't work for the money. In real life Molly Brown's husband became super rich from digging for gold in the Rocky Mountains in Colorado.

Keith Boyd

Football season is starting next week. How about a football movie? The Longest Yard would be good. Burt Reynolds version. Other good ones are North Dallas Forty, Remember the Titan, and Friday Night Lights.

Bill Bevins

A Geraldo reference in two movies in a row. Never thought that would happen. Dolphins do follow ships. We've gone out whalewatching and dolphins liked to "surf" in the wake of the ship. Melancholy means sad, not head shaped like a melon with a face of a collie. Talking about the one-legged prostitute, her name was Eileen. Looking forward to part 2.

Bill Bevins

your hair is similar to Rose's, you should curl it and do it like hers and surprise him

William

There was an elderly gentleman in my neighborhood, who saw the Titanic being built in Belfast when he was a child. When news of the sinking arrived at the shipyards, the entire community mourned the loss of a ship they built.

Richard Meyer

I literally just screamed when she said Kill Bill is on Friday... yes!!! Loving the Titanic reaction so far... I hate to admit that I remember the double vhs edition...lol. And we are ALL Kathy Bates right along with you. No question.

Rebecca Monk

Oo, can’t wait for you to watch “Kill Bill”!

Tara M. Wilcoxon

Ashleigh is such a good Reactor that "happy accidents" almost certainly happen Naturally...

James Falato

Hubben is so damn funny.

Amy Silknitter

That is cool. I have to think she knew what she was doing, But she didn't know she was watching 2 James Cameron films back to back. And weeks ago she surprised herself by watch 2 Tom Hanks back to back. So maybe it was another happy accident.

Mark Sylvester

I think it's kinda cool that you're Reacting to "The Titanic" - Part 1 - and "Kill Bill Vol 1" in the same week... And I'm assuming next week you'll be Reacting to "The Titanic" - Part 2 - and "Kill Bill Vol 2"... 2 2-Parters in 2 weeks... Yes! and Yes!!

James Falato

Please promise us Ashleigh to never ever do that on camera!

Mark Sylvester

I did that for Pulp Fiction! VERY disorienting. Then when I realized what was happening felt very stupid.

Mark Sylvester

Sneaky sneaky, also - can’t wait for Friday!

MrBamaRed

Here's my dumb@ss trying to sync the movie to the not-full review.

Murf

It auto corrected hubbin to hubbub

ingibingi2000
