EARLY ACCESS: The Nice Guys

Comments

"It's just a jump to the left..." (sorry) :)

Paul Johnson

John Shepherd it was under the radar when it was released a few years ago. Few people know how good it is. Logan lucky is like that too. She'd love Logan Lucky they rob the coca cola 600 car race

Mr Marvelous

I hate Edgar Wright... :P

Manuel Johnen

Hey, Hot Fuzz is great, and since she liked Shaun of the Dead, I imagine she'll like it too.

Tyler Foster

I have never seen or heard of this movie until now lol

john shepherd

You didn't. I did.

Manuel Johnen

We had no idea what it was about when it opened, we’d stopped going to see Russell Crowe in theaters, and with Shane Black still trying to be 90’s-Screenwriter-Boom relevant in the 10’s, we didn’t know it from “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”.

Eric Janssen

I guess that’s a reflection of how many folks here SAW Nice Guys, or were begging her to. Okay, are we off the self-gratifying Quirky Cult Police/Crime comedies because she deigned to say nice things about Pulp Fiction, or is some idiot still going to insist she see Hot Fuzz?

Eric Janssen

Not enough comments for this movie... and some of which are there are about "The Rocky Horror Picture Show". What a shame... :(

Manuel Johnen

Yes, this is one movie I was going to ask you to review when I became a Patron. There are two other Fantastic Fiction movies from the mid 80's I would love to get your opinion of,but that will happen when I become a Patron of yours.

Timothy Morgan

Yes I think "Starman" would be right up Ashleigh's alley and have said so before...Bridges and Karen Allen are both great in it

Paul Johnson

Oh I forgot to mention a long time ago when you reviewed Steven Speildberg,'s "Close Encounters" that John Carpenter did one similar called "Star man" Staring a much younger and clean cut Jeff Bridges. It's a really great fun film to review... I think it won an academy award 1983 or 1984..

WEEZER MANN

Interesting how many people are posting they haven't even heard of this movie. and it was a wide release studio film with 2 movie stars from only 5 years ago. I work in the industry, read the gloom and doom articles about theatrical distribution etc. guess there is some truth to it. it's a very different world today. A lot of people are more aware of what's new on Netflix than what's opening in theaters(was case even before pandemic)

Birdie Num Num

All the fans begging a reactor "You HAVE to see The Room and Rocky Horror!" are WRONG. These movies cannot be seen alone in a closet, any more than Plan 9 could have been seen in one. "Bad" cult movies need an audience, who start developing their own synched reaction to not believing what they're seeing, and the laugh comes from seeing everyone around you thinking the same thing at the same moment. (Except for RHPS, of course, which started out as just a pro-drag gay-cult screening, like "Mommie Dearest" and "Valley of the Dolls".) We used to have an all-night sci-fi festival in our college town, and a 2am lack of sleep could make a rowdy-audience hit out of just about anything cheesy, but you had to be in it to understand. You just can’t do it virtually on the Internet, except maybe in a live chat.

Eric Janssen

RHPS is just cheap garbage full of terrible songs... :P

Manuel Johnen

I remember the first time I saw this in theatres. I enjoyed it, but if I had to rate it I’d give it a 4 out of 5. Some scenes felt slow for me, but the action and wit made up for it most scenes. Also, I’m watching a whole day late, and I haven’t seen Ferris Bueller until Monday when it uploaded to YouTube. Maybe this is what I get for being on a waitlist for Top Tier patron. 🤣👍🏼

Gio Vidrio

I'm a little dubious about a viewing of RHPS. It loses a LOT when you just watch it straight as a movie, compared to being introduced to it by friends who drag you to a midnight showing and your mind is blown by the audience participation aspect. My experience was going from never having heard of it, to attending 32 weekend midnight showings in a row gradually ramping up to full participation. I still remember most of the songs and dialogue (and responses) by heart, decades later.

Thomas Yanez

Ha! Your reaction of “Dammit Janet” was great! It will be better after you see Rocky Horror Picture Show! Hurry up and get this on your view list!

Ullatec

Great reaction...I honestly never heard of this movie before but this reaction was very entertaining and I love that you love Pong! Also a truly great movie with Russell Crowe and Kim Basinger(and Danny DeVito for that matter) is 1997's "L.A. Confidential"...have an awesome weekend!

Paul Johnson

Fun fact... since you love American Horror Story. Did you recognize the bad guy? Matt Bomer. Specifically from Hotel as Donovan, Kathy Bates' son...who loved The Countess.

Rebecca Monk

This is director Shane Black's first movie after directing Iron-Man 3.

Alexander Fish

That's the real shame, most people haven't... this is really worth a watch. :(

Manuel Johnen

Fun review as always! I hadn't heard of this movie.

Lynnetta

Oh seeing u brush beans reminds me. Have u used the equigroomer I sent u? Did beans like it?

Elisa H.

I am sending her a copy of Out of Sight!

Tyler Foster

I'm just at the point where she says Russel Crowe looks like John Goodman... and that's exactly the same thing a pal of mine said, who recommended this movie to me, but he honestly thought it starred John Goodman... XD I guess I'm just not seeing the resemblance... :P

Manuel Johnen

This movie is amazingly good, one of my favorites of the past couple years. You just can tell while watching that everyone who was involved in this had a blast... :)

Manuel Johnen

I've never heard of this film but enjoyed your reaction. You may not have recognized Kim Basinger, the older blond lady, she played Vicky Vale in Burton's Batman. Betting you'd enjoy "Out of Sight," a great crime comedy by Steven Soderbergh starring Clooney & J-Lo.

Laura Neary Smith

If Ashleigh does a movie I haven't seen, I just watch it in order to watch the reaction.

Tyler Foster

This was written and directed by Shane Black, writer/director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and writer of Lethal Weapon. He also appeared on-screen in Predator telling the "pussy" jokes.

Tyler Foster

Woo! This movie I saw on a whim and was surprised by how good and fun it was.

Elisa H.

Two movies in a row I haven't seen. Hope Ashleigh goes back to doing more classic movies. Anything before 2000 I have most likely seen it but if it's been released after 2010, I haven't seen it. Hoping for more older movies next week.
