Ferris Bueller’s Day Off!

Comments

FB's Day Of is a well made and funny film ... enough to make the viewer momentarily forget what a sleazy, self-important little twerp he was.

Joseph Stevenson

Also would like to mention Matthew Broderick's father James plays a subway motorman in "The Taking of Pelham One Two Three" which I hope will get a look here someday

Paul Johnson

Well, there are better movies that she liked less... *coughcoughTheGodfathercough* :P

Manuel Johnen

And also the original “Red Dawn”!

Nick of Time

Uh, there were some scenes in Revenge of the Nerds that are a bit problematic. Glaringly so in this day and age. And this coming from a guy who is politically conservative.

John Williams

Oh Ashleigh remember to SAVE FERRIS!!!!! HE HE HE!!!!!

WEEZER MANN

There are some movies whose popularity and hype simply do not coincide with the quality of the film. While this may be a "classic", it's not really that good of a movie.

Alexander Fish

Shrug Ferris

Tyler Foster

Guess she didn’t care about saving Ferris.

Nor did he sing twist and shout here, instead they just used John Lennon.

Classic 80s cheese. Can’t believe you didn’t enjoy. I remember seeing this in the theater when I was like 10. Weird science needs to be on your list!!!!

Vicky phillips

Glad you watched it. Not surprised you didn't like it. Fun fact: Matthew Broderick (Ferris) was the voice of adult Simba. But he wasn't the singing voice on Can You Feel the Love Tonight, which is surprising since he's been in many Broadway musicals. 🙂🦁

Lynnetta

Ashleigh, check out 1986's Weird Science & Revenge of the Nerds...guaranteed fun

WEEZER MANN

To each their own. I love this film and Breakfast Club but I grew up in the 80s.

Jerrod Acree

Great reaction..I didn't care much for this one either...I graduated in '85 and I can attest high school wasn't quite like this or Breakfast Club(maybe it's a Chicago thing IDK)...but yeah Ferriss is just too smarmy and manipulative to be a likable main character as for the supporting cast I always thought Mia Sara was so pretty thought she'd have had more of a career then she did and if they ever do a bio pic of Fred Gwynne it's the role Alan Ruck was born to play lol...also Edie McClurg(Grace)made her film debut in Brian DePalma's "Carrie"(1976) which I think we'll be seeing here this Hallobeans

Paul Johnson

I grew up in the 80s, and I didn't like this movie then. You know you're an adult when you are rooting for Ferris to get caught.

Alaina Stone

John Hughes did write Home Alone and if you liked Jennifer Grey you should check out Dirty Dancing

Jason Nunez

"Grace" was cursed out by Steve Martin at the rental car counter, in T, P, & A with John Candy. Fun fact: Charlie Sheen got his "wiped out" look by staying up two days before shooting the police station scene.

Fred Zeppelin

It’s not surprising that you got Breakfast Club and Home Alone vibes. John Hughes wrote and produced all of them. He also did PT&A and Uncle Buck, and of these he directed all but Home Alone. A lot of his movies have loads of slapstick that in real life would kill and or bankrupt a person in real life.

Paul Krueger

Great movie that Hughes wrote in a single weekend.

Raul Melendez

Exactly!

Raul Melendez

The Ferrari 250 GT California is an extremely rare Ferrari. They, of course, used a replica for this movie. An actual Ferrari 250 GT California recently sold in auction for $17 MILLION.

Raul Melendez

I agree. I watched this movie a number of times in the 80s and early 90s and always enjoyed it. But during the watch along with Ashleigh it seemed to drag and be boring during parts. So I also was unsurprised.

Mark Sylvester

I was enjoying this movie and then I realised it was mostly cos Ferris is a cutie and I am a simp

JSounds

Well, at least she now has this one under her belt for the MCU and maybe, one day, "Deadpool", references.

Thomas Yanez

I got your Cameron update right here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5iESH6sFdtY

John Williams

I also think "Risky Business" is better than Ferris...

Manuel Johnen

I still think it's funny...

Manuel Johnen

Sorry you didn't enjoy it, it's one of my favorites, but I can see where someone wouldn't be into it, having had friends that didn't like it, either, when it came out. I watch your reviews because they're entertaining; the fact you did or didn't like the film is secondary, to me. I shall leave you with this misquote: "Burton? Burton? Burton?" :) Take care, be safe!

Michael Sailor

I'll take the Eastwood directed "Sudden Impact" (which is the best one after the original) and "The Dead Pool" (which is hilarious) over the dreary "Magnum Force", please... :)

Manuel Johnen

"This movie is basically a right of passage, right?" No, if at all, it's a rite of passage... you don't have a right to passage per se... :)

Manuel Johnen

Hard to watch Jeffrey Jones in anything now that he's been convicted of soliciting a minor. To quote Walter Sobchak, "he's a sex offender, with a record."

Andy H.

"Get it, construction man". When they were filming the parade scene there was actually real construction going on. When the song Twist and Shout was playing, a real construction worker started dancing and the cameraman caught it. John Hughes liked it and put it in the music montage.

Bill Bevins

Yeah, I like this one and I think a lot of it is due to nostalgia. It doesn't stand the test of time. Like, if it were remade today shot for shot, it would be a turd sammich.

Holly Perkins

Matthew Broderick still gets stopped in the street by people saying “Het Ferris. Is it your day off?” 35 years later.

Robert Gruhn

Dirty Harry is a character created by Clint Eastwood. He is a tough cop who doesn't play by the rules. You definitely know his quotes, the most famous is "Go ahead. Make my day" and "Do you feel lucky, Punk". The first two in the series, "Dirty Harry" and "Magnum Force" are definitely worth reacting to.

Bill Bevins

I’m surprised you didn’t like this one, but you can’t win ‘em all.

Michael Waldrep

Please watch “Sixteen Candles”(1984) which was John Hughes directing debut after having written “National Lampoon’s Vacation” the year before. It’s got Molly Ringwald in it.

Richard Stegman Jr.

I have heard from many women friends that they are not as enamored with this as many guys, because Ferris gets all the wish fulfillment and his sister suffers in his shadow. Like Ali says above, he's also kind of a smarmy egomaniac, and as you pointed out, he really isn't that nice to Cameron. I enjoyed this movie as a teenager, but my fandom has definitely faded over the years. I don't know how the YouTube-i-verse will take it, but I'd say this is a pretty unsurprising reaction.

Tyler Foster

My problem with this movie is that Ferris is so unlikeable! The premise is fun, I can appreciate the 80s cheese for what it is, but ultimately Ferris is a bit of a dick, so it’s hard to cheer for him.

Ali D

This movie is a fantasy. There is no way that Ferris accomplished everything they did in one school day. A baseball game, a museum visit, taking part in a parade, and a swimming session could not have physically happened in that span of time. Still a funny movie, though. Jeffrey Jones as the principal really made this movie.

Bill Bevins

So sorry this didn't go there for you. I certainly enjoy this fun little romp but the film is like one of those stories we all have. It's a great experience for the person who went through it but trying to explain it after the fact, all we can say is "You had to be there." My opinion (that and a buck will get you a cup o' coffee), RISKY BUSINESS is a similar but superior take on the same theme. It also contains one of the most iconic and parodied dancing scenes of the eighties. BTW, isn't "80's cheese" pretty much the defining characteristic of John Hughes' work?

T.J. Gengler

Definitely a right of passage. And my school in Puerto Rico had gates so u couldn't get out so the only way to cut was to sneak out before they closed the gates... I heard... I of course never did such a thing... 😇

Elisa H.

I just watched a YouTube video, totally unrelated to movies or reactions, and the guy was wearing a "Save Ferris" shirt.
