WATCH ALONG: League of Their Own

Great movie, great reaction. One of my favourite movies. Can watch it on repeat and often put it on in the background when I’m working. You should check out The Long Kiss Goodnight, The Fly & Thelma & Louise for more great Geena Davis work. And Earth Girls Are Easy for a silly 80’s aliens come to earth movie with very young Geena, Jeff Goldblum (also in the fly with her), Jim Carry & Damon Wayans.

p.p.s. that fun skillful dancing is called Swing, and you can find groups that still do it, and you can learn with them.

Mark

p.s. "A [so-and-so] Film" is the same as "Directed by [so-and-so]."

Personally, I would love to see her react to his little-known 1998 movie Zero Effect, which he is fantastic in, but the obscurity of it means I have to hope to either become a MMM or that another MMM really likes that movie.

The President’s speech in Independence Day is one of the greatest monologues in cinema. It gets me every time.

Nick of Time

The looks you gave the camera during the news reels had me dying! 🤣💀

Lynnetta

Sort of funny that while she chose not to watch Independence Day this year, she still chose a movie with one of the stars of Independence Day.

Tyler Foster

Love this movie!! Tom hanks must see…. Splash and Big Geena Davis must see… The Big Kiss Goodnight and Thelma and Louise Bill Pullman (Bob) must see… 1996 Independence Day ( great speech) and While You Were Sleeping

I was 14 when this movie came out. It was soooo anticipated at the time. It was a HUGE deal. Especially uplifting women and giving them props. One of my all time favs. So glad you reviewed it!!

Kathy Carter

HUZZAH! Great watch-along!

Jill Peterson

That was wonderfully fun :)

Uncle 'Traveling' Matt

OMG I am so excited you are doing this one, I mentioned this one on your Fried Green Tomatoes video because the "flash back" style made me think of it. I saw this in a theater when I was 14 and was OBSESSED with it. I listened to the Madonna song "This Used To Be My Playground" on repeat for a whole summer. I am so glad you loved it!!

Kristine Friling

Knew you’d love this one. And if you like young Tom Hanks, I highly recommend “The Money Pit”.

Nick of Time

Did you catch that the girl's who husband did die in the war was the wife of the Jimmy Dugan fan. The one whose baseball card was ripped up by Jimmy Dugan instead of his signing it.

Oouga

Yes, Japan is big on Baseball, for one. :-) They have their own league in fact.

My "not a sports fan but will always watch it" sports movie is The Longest Yard.

Kenton Kruger

Next you need to react to Rudy and Hoosiers. I'm generally not a sports fan, but I will always watch those and A League of Their Own whenever I run cross them.

What a treat! Thank you, Ashleigh, that was awesome. There are about 7or 8 movies that I call perfect movies and this is one of them. Tom Hanks? Perfect. Geena Davis? Perfect. Madonna? Better than she is in any other movie. I got to meet Megan Cavanaugh (Marla Hooch) a few times and she's an awesome person and a great singer! That's it, that's my whole speech.

"This Used To Be My Playground" is such a great song.

Lynnetta

I only cried 5 or 6 times this time. :)

Robert Reichle

RIP.

Mo Vetta

The DVD commentary for this film is amazing! Best movie ever. FYI, “Betty Spaghetti” is played by Penny’s daughter Tracey Reiner (Rob Reiner adopted her when he and Penny were married). If you haven’t seen the movie Big by Penny Marshall, you should watch it sometime 👍🏼

WhitneyG

Old Dottie isn't Geena Davis. That's actress Lynn Cartwright, Geena simply overdubbed the voice.

Alexander Fish

I think this is the first movie in wich I cried and you didn't... (at the end when the sisters reunite)

Moni Castaneda

Also Ashleigh did you recognize David “Squiggy” Lander as the play by play man?

Bryan Foster

The Madonna song that plays during the credits is so beautiful and sad, it’ll grab you right in the feels. It’s also my favorite of hers. My only complaint is that it wasn’t on the soundtrack back in the day and was hard as hell to find.

Bryan Foster

Being a huge sports fan, im glad you are watching this. Also i may need to sneak in Field of Dreams sometime. you would love that movie

Bleedingreen

Great choice for 4th of July.

Andy H.

A big "booo, hissss" on this switch-up from me.

Kenton Kruger
