What's Next?

LORDY LORDY LORDY

Some of y'all have been HEATED lately - between my mom choosing Fried Green Tomatoes and TJ picking the original Cape Fear.... 😂😂😂

Casablanca is Monday and then we continue into the Marvel Universe on Friday.
(SPOILER: Thor could get it.)

Anyways - I've decide to include some TOTALLY NEW movies in this poll. Not worry - if your previous fav didn't win; it will return, just not right now.

Comments

You pretty much need to see *all* of these... :D

Michael McSwiney

The Highlander is an awesome flick (wish they had left it at the one movie but still)

I love every single one of those movies, especially Stardust...

Marci Flint

You’ve gotta check out Some Kind of Wonderful soon too!

Madeline H

Another great movie with one of the best original songs ever written: "This Woman's Work" by Kate Bush.

Raul Melendez

Go Ferris!!! “Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”

Raul Melendez

They you have to do uhf

will

If you are going for 80's high fantasy there are others to watch before Ladyhawk... Legend, Conan, Red Sonja, WIllow, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth

OneEyedMcGee

Still waiting for a WILD THINGS reaction 😆

Joshua Reichert

Yes. To both.

Midge

SAVE FERRIS

Midge

How about "She's Having a Baby"? Another great John Hughes film.

I second the Dirty Dancing rec someone made! Also Labyrinth. And I'll add Stand By Me and Stardust while I'm at it. :)

Keri Parmeter

I know I wrote there's no losing with this selection, but I have to admit I'm disappointed Blade Runner ended up snagging second ;)

Kenton Kruger

What, Blade Runner, or Ferris Bueller?

Eric Janssen

Could Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery “Get it!?”

Brett Delbridge

Could be the most overrated movie of the 80s. Pass.

warcrimes

Going to be another squeaker. Maybe time to ask mom...

Kenton Kruger

My guess is any movie with a lot of music will be a hard reaction to edit. Not that I've done it, but I would think the music would trigger a lot of the copyright bots. Edit to add now that I'm thinking about it, The Critical Drinker mentioned during his video about the possible Highlander remake that he didn't even dare play a moment of the music from Highlander as in his experience it would flag his video.

Kenton Kruger

This is what I was worried about. Ferris was going to be seen, regardless. It’s too big a pop culture phenomenon for people not to insist. But Ladyhawke is going to come in last and be forgotten. 😭😭😭😭

Heather Qualy

*ahem* I believe you mean QUEEN songs. 😉 The whole band wrote songs for the film. Who Wants To Live Forever is Brian’s. Don’t Lose Your Head, Roger’s. Etc.

Heather Qualy

"Ferris Buller's Day Off!!!!" Classic 1980's film and one of my all time favorites! I grew up watching that movie as a kid and at 40 years old (I'll be 41 in October....), I still watch it and laugh my butt off! It stands the test of time...well, it does to me. "Ladyhawke" ain't too bad either but I want "Buller." Haha haha!!!!!!

Kate Luxor

Oh Labyrinth is a good choice. Dance magic! Dance magic dance! (You know you're already singing it in your head and dancing in your seat) And as for Bowie's assets, let's just say I'm just glad they didn't shoot the movie in 3D LOL

Nick of Time

I sadly have to agree, but only by a very small margin.

Nick of Time

Well I can tell what you voted for! LOL

Nick of Time

It's probably been 20 years since I watched the Theatrical Cut and I didn't really care for it at the time; granted, I was only like 13 then and probably any cut of Blade Runner would've gone over my head. That being said, I've certainly grown to love this movie as I've gotten older and subsequent cut of the film has been better than the previous version. I get the film noir feeling with the narration, but its just not very well done and takes me out of the movie more than it pulls me in.

Nick of Time

While I like Ladyhawke, I would prefer Labyrinth. Can't wait for Ashley's comments on David Bowie's "assets".

Cristina Collins-Armstrong

I don't know that Ladyhawke has enough of a fan base to ever win a poll, unless Ashleigh does a once-a-year also ran poll. Personally I do like the movie, though the music dates it horribly.

Kenton Kruger

dangit. Coming in last is LadyHawke, a movie I think you'd thoroughly enjoy. Ferris is one of those movies, that yes, you 'should' see, but more from a pop culture/everyone saw it as a teen point of view.

Derri .

And he is very much getable at Road House too :D

GamerGal8684

I still love Ferris, dammit. Though, even more than Matthew Broderick, the reasons to watch that movie are Alan Ruck as Cameron and Jennifer Grey as Jeannie. Speaking of Jennifer Grey, we need DIRTY DANCING! Patrick Swayze at his most GET IT-able!

April Smith

You didn't have an All Of The Above button, which makes this really hard. I'm biased against Ferris, because he reminds me of people I went to school with, but it's still a blast of a movie. Ladyhawke will get you in your feels, so I need to watch along with wine at hand.

Just going to agree with the consensus that you need to watch The Final Cut of Blade Runner and it would be better to watch the Director's Cut of Highlander.

Tyler Foster

Highlander ... but try to get the director's cut ... a few scenes that weren't in the theatrical release.

Craig Rhymer

Again, you can search the web and find several dozen 80's-nostalgia "Is Ferris a textbook sociopath?" fan theories: “Believes himself personally privileged above social norms and responsibilities”... “Pathological lying/deception to achieve goals”... "Reckless disregard for others' property"... “Uses charm to manipulate friends and allies, to gratify his own needs.” Of course, we all know Ferris was just a 40-yo. guy’s 80’s idea of “Teen cool”, like The Breakfast Club, but it’s pretty darn hard to un-see as an adult thirty years later.

Eric Janssen

Two comments. The votes will always skew male, but you always enjoy the girlier movies when they sneak through. And although I have Highlander memorized, it really throws off people who assume famous = good. Okay, three. Although I saw all the other John Hughes movies in high school, in the theater, I didn’t see Ferris Bueller until my early 30s and it does not hold up without nostalgia goggles. Kind of like ET.

Kristen North

There can be only one!

Wesley Eskildsen

She’s still got that copy of Flash Gordon... ⚡️🚀

Eric Janssen

This for me was a tough choice between Highlander and Ferris Bueller. But I had to choose Highlander not only because it's a great movie but the legendary band Queen does the entire movie soundtrack. But it looks like Ferris Bueller is gonna win. You will love that movie.

Keith Boyd

I agree with the people that suggest the proper Blade Runner is the original version with voice over for a first viewing. It gives it even more of a film noir feel too. Once a person has seen that version though, I think the best version would then be the Final Cut version. Skipping the original though is going to ensure moments where you go "wait, what?" "What's that about?"

Robert Reichle

The Final Cut seems to be the consensus, where we get the plot, no narration, and only the absolute minimum of unicorns that Ridley Scott wanted to put into "Legend" next.

Eric Janssen

I like your reactions to whatever you're watching. We often agree! (I didn't like ET at all as a kid) I will watch whichever you choose, and enjoy it, I'm sure. I always vote for the one I think you'll have the most fun watching, so I choose Ferris for this one.

Jill Peterson

Again: Ground rules, no "The Last Dragon" until "Enter the Dragon". (And then only after "Kentucky Fried Movie" afterwards.) It's better with the black reactors, anyway.

Eric Janssen

I hate Ferris Bueller (the hip-sociopath character, so-so on the movie), and remember why we weren't thrilled over the confusing Blade Runner and paper-thin Ladyhawke in theaters, but anything's fine here...So I chose the silly Highlander for the same reason we went to see it in theaters: The Freddie Mercury songs. ( I kept thinking, "Wait, she's DONE Ferris, hasn't she? Everyone else has.")

Eric Janssen

Voted "Blade Runner" and "Ladyhawke" because inquiring minds want to know...could Rutger Hauer get it? Also Sean Young in BR should be an automatic "She's so pretty"

Paul Johnson

Ouu. Ladyhawke is a good one but falls more into cult status. Still, can't go wrong with any of them!

Josh Hines

The man is prolific.

Gryff

Ferris will probably get the best reaction, but I really want to see how you react to "Blade Runner" and "Highlander".

Thomas Yanez

I think you would enjoy Highlander but maybe not as was originally intended.

Jennie Tyderek

Ok, I picked Ladyhawke. Because it is so different from other movies. Even at the time. Fantasy, but very obviously 80s, humour, a sweet sweet story. And more of a “deep cut” cult classic, so probably wouldn’t make it on a list if you threw it out to he general public. I also love these picks, because besides Ferris, I honestly have no idea what Ashleigh will think of them! Personally, I was SHOCKED when I showed my 10 year old Ladyhawke. I truly thought she’s never sit through it, it’s such a product of it’s time. But she loved it, and 5 years later will still pull it out to watch on her own. So, you never know!

Heather Qualy

No no no no no no!! I have no clue what to do here! You picked 4 EXCELLENT movies to react to maybe not 4 excellent movies, but 4 cult classics that you will definitely have a reaction to! What to pick what to pick??? Argh!! All of them. And The Karate Kid.

Heather Qualy

Not on the list but a definite change of pace The Last Dragon

djhyjak

Wow, I never would have expected two Rutger Hauer movies in a single poll here.

Thomas Yanez

Do we have mods on here?

Kenton Kruger

Top two get done, so it's between Highlander and Blade Runner.

Kenton Kruger

Also, watching Ferris Bueller before she reaches a certain point in the MCU would be nice for the reference.

Thomas Yanez

I kind of wish that when a name went on a poll and got any votes but didn't win, it would always come back on the next poll. I don't like when the poll is a completely fresh set of movies.

Thomas Yanez

I'm curious how polls are determined. I've seen other titles come up more often than these in the comments but they don't make it to polls. I'm Gen X, but never quite got why many of my generation have so much nostalgia for the 80s, and so many mediocre films. To me Ladyhawke and Highlander seem more dated than many films of the 50s, 60s etc. And Pretty in Pink, Spies Like Us etc. I think Casablanca and The Godfather have been the only pre 1980 film to make a poll, which is weird.

Birdie Num Num

I really hope you react to ALL of these with us! I wouldn't be disappointed by any of them winning.

Sean Novack

As much as I love all the choices this time, I think Ashleigh would enjoy Ladyhawke a lot which is why I'm voting for it to help it go up the polls.

Nur Hussein

I've never been a fan of ferris not even in the 80s so for me there can only be one choice in this poll. On a cape fear note, Robert Mitchem was in a low budget B-movie in the 50s called "thunder road" about moonshine runners, while I can't recommend the movie I do recommend giving the theme song a listen. FoolMoon1973

FoolMoon

Don't watch the theatrical cut... :/ The narration is godawful and totally unnecessary... it tells you nothing you can't see for yourself anyway. Really, "Blade Runner" is not a hard movie to understand and Ford's purposely bored tone is a total turn off and kills any joy. Just don't...

Manuel Johnen

I know it's not on this list, but I know you love Kathy Bates, Ashleigh. Check out Dolores Claiborne. You will NOT be disappointed.

Mo Vetta

Burton? Burton?...Burton...?

Brett Delbridge

Save Ferris

Brett Delbridge

"Highlander" holds up amazingly well.

Manuel Johnen

I'm all for "Highlander", but the people want Ferris, it seems... :P

Manuel Johnen

Also - if you get to watching Blade Runner - really pay attention to which version you are watching, because there are several, and Blade Runner versions are a topic in itself. Aaaand - if you're a fan of Mythbusters, Adam Savage is a HUGE fan of Blade Runner.

SCSponge

As much as I love Blade Runner, I voted Highlander - also one of my all-time favourites, and Blade Runner is a slow burn - absolutely worth watching (together with Blade Runner 2049) but it's more a work of art than a movie.

SCSponge

@Steven A Martinez I thought about it. But I was trying to get the list down to essentials. I don't think I've seen Biloxi Blues on TV since it was on Cinemax thirty-some years ago.

Those are all great choices, I hope you get around to all of them some day.

Eric Bogerd

Aw, I loved “Ladyhawke”! I think you’ll have fun with “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off”, though, so that’s my vote. Have a great weekend! Hug Beans for me, please.

Tara M. Wilcoxon

@Sam You forgot to add Biloxi Blues in that Matthew Broderick marathon!

Steven A Martinez

I will add, with these "old" movies, you maybe should be trying to do them in cycles. For instance, instead of FBDO and then maybe Ladyhawke gets picked sometime or never, you need to do a Matthew Broderick mini-cycle: Ladyhawke -> WarGames -> then FBDO. Not just for the movies, because they are all good movies, but to get the flavor of Matthew's early career arc. And thinking about it, FBDO really cannot be fully appreciated without having seen WarGames first.

The theatrical cut of Blade Runner has narration that helps the audience understand the story. It's not necessary, but very helpful for first time viewing; however, once you understand what is basically going on the final cut of Blade Runner is so much better!

Michael Buhl

Of the four, Blade Runner is the one that has an important place in movie history. Not so much for the story, which is based on Philip K. Dick's great novel _Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep,_ but for Ridley Scott's vision as realized through the art direction of David Snyder. Between "Blade Runner" (1982) and Terry Gilliam's "Brazil" (1985) these two films set the style for future dystopian science-fiction cities for the next several decades.

Elliot Nesterman

Ferris is clearly the winner, but next ones should be either Blade Runner or Ladyhawke, especially Ladyhawke since it loses many polls.

Gio Vidrio

YES, Office Space is a must

Matt Gwinn

I would prefer Blade Runner with VO. So BR(FC) does not get my vote. FBDO, Ladyhawke, and Highlander are all worthy movies. As influential as FBDO was to pop culture, I am giving my vote to Highlander. It's a personal favorite that is as timeless as it is an artifact of the 80s. And there can be only one.

Okay Ashleigh, at first I did pick all four but then I decided that “There Can Be Only One”! Highlander it is!

Steven A Martinez

There can be only one

christopher brown

BTW, I can't wait to see your Casablanca reaction. I rented and watched it a few years ago and was surprised how much I liked it. I hope you liked it too.

Michael Waldrep

Love Bladerunner but I don't think it would make a good reaction vid. Definitely Ferris Bueller. Office Space would be a good one as well.

TheNeonRabbit

You will definitely enjoy Ferris Buellers Day Off the most of these. I loved Highlander growing up and it was popular enough to garner its own TV series, but I haven't watched it in ages, so I'm not sure how well it's held up. Bladerunner is amazing and beautiful, but there are 3 different versions of the film which will make if harder for all of your Patrons to watch along (me specifically. lol). Ladyhawke is a bit like a poor man's Princess Bride. I liked it in growing up and it gets a lot of nostalgic love, so it's not the worst film you could watch, outside of these 4 choices.

Matt Gwinn

Four solid choices. Ladyhawke is my pick with Highlander a strong second.

old _Navy_twidget

YOU MUST CHOOSE.

Ashleigh Burton

It's all good.

Patrick Anderson

They both can't take the prize, there can be only one!

Kenton Kruger

war games!

Mark Finley

All 4 of these are good, but Blade Runner and Highlander take the prize

Jay McIntyre

I can't imagine her enjoying Blade Runner at all. Go Ladyhawke!

Involunteer

I respect this.

Ashleigh Burton

Yeah, although I posted below they're all good, Blade Runner is definitely my lowest choice of the bunch.

Kenton Kruger

sounds like a good time to me

Ashleigh Burton

You don’t say choose all that apply then give me choices like those! How do I not pick all four!

Steven A Martinez

All great movies, but if you have never seen it I think the theatrical cut of Blade Runner is easier to follow the first time

Eric

Thor and Loki could get it. No questions asked or needed

Elisa H.

This is a great selection, really there's no losing on this one. Ferris will likely have this in a cakewalk, so my second vote went to Highlander. I do hope Ladyhawke makes it onto another poll sometime though; my guess is after Ferris she will like Broderick enough that a lot of his work will be on future polls.

Kenton Kruger

Ugh I've tried several times to get through Blade Runner and just can't and Rutger and Harrison are 2 of my favourites. Great cure for my insomnia.

Been waiting to see Ferris Bueller in a poll. Now I just have to wait to see War Games which oddly also has Mathew Broderick in.

Some good choices (and Ferris Bueller), but I had to go for Highlander.

iamrman82

Wow all good choices! I’m torn, really.

Bryan Foster

Both Ladyhawk and Ferris Bueller has Matthew Broderick in it. All these movies are great. Voted for Ladyhawk because it's my favorite of all these.

Bill Bevins

Order you need to see Ferrires highlander Blade runner Lady hawke

Sherioushly 😑

Danika Silva

They are all good movies, but I think Ferris is the way to go. I think you'll enjoy it the most and it will be fun to see your reactions. :)

Considering what Ashleigh went through for Fried Green Tomatoes, she deserves a day with Ferris.

Brian Nyman

A League of Their Own is a perfect summer movie.

Lynnetta

All good choices

Andy Hafler

Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? :)

Michael Sailor

There can be only one!

People really need to take a breather. I enjoyed both movies and can't wait for more - especially Thor 🤩

JSounds

This is going to be a bloodbath. Please do A League of Their Own soon or at least put it on a poll

Mark Finley

Highlander & Ladyhawke

Danika Silva

OMG Blade Runner is good, but Ferris Bueller is one of those very quoted, very parodied movies that you really need to watch, at some point. It's a lot of fun, too!

Michael Waldrep

Ferris all day long.
