What's Next?

I think you're going to be PRETTY excited about Monday's video AND even Friday's!

What's coming up next though - mixing in TWO brand new options among the TWO sore losers who just can't seem to win!

Comments

ROBOCOP!!!

Timothy Estrada

Despite Casablanca winning by 4 votes it was the chick flick. Oh well, it was recommended by her mom so can't fault that. She will see Casablanca eventually.

Wesley Eskildsen

I am going to bother you until you react to it. "Angels With Dirty Faces"

Tom Castro

Ashleigh There's a classic James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, Pat O'Brien movie with The Dead End Kids that is my fav. "Angels With Dirty Faces" It has drama, some laughs and moving moments. Warning: you will cry at the end.

Tom Castro

What poppycock that Pretty in Pink didn’t win. Smh FGT is a little overrated. It’s no Molly Ringwald.

Jerrod Acree

“Fried Green Tomatoes” will make you cry. “Spies Like Us” was funny!

Tara M. Wilcoxon

Talk about a cult movie! Don't get me wrong, I like the film very much, and all the performances are memorable, perhaps Richard Griffiths's the most, but saying it's not everyone's cup of tea would be a huge understatement. Speaking of Griffiths, have you watched his delightful police/mystery series "Pie in the Sky?" Also, Richard E. Grant did a series of very funny shorts parodying cooking shows called, "Posh Nosh."

Elliot Nesterman

Hopefully Withnail and I will be on one of those charts soon

Are you suggesting men would watch a Julia Roberts movie? Or a Sandy Bullock movie that wasn't "Speed" or "Demolition Man"?

Eric Janssen

Seriously people!? Slime green tomatoes!? Yes she will like it. It's a chick flick! But no real man will watch a reaction to a chick flick voluntarily unless it's got someone like Julia Roberts or Sandy Bullock in it.

Wesley Eskildsen

Pretty In Pink

Vincent

And "Breakdown" for the same exact reason

Paul Johnson

After Tootsie, of course - It's hard for post-80's audiences to understand the appeal of 60's-70's Dustin Hoffman without it, and that includes Marathon Man. (Uh, and Al Pacino was in Dog Day Afternoon?)

Eric Janssen

Three classic Dustin Hoffman films ought to be in the mix: The Graduate, Dog Day Afternoon, and, of course, Midnight Cowboy.

Elliot Nesterman

I also personally think that while taste is subjective, I do think taste can be swayed, and I think that some people who don't like Casablanca are probably harsher to it because it is considered one of the greatest films ever made, and people who love it love it so much and all of that. It creates expectations that weigh on the movie. Personally, I think the movie lives up to them, but I understand that the nature of its acclaim means it's harder to casually dislike Casablanca.

Tyler Foster

Casablanca is one of the best movies ever made. How could people vote to deny Ashleigh from seeing it?

Graham Martin

I think you need to see Backdraft if you haven't already. Kurt Russell is in it. :D

nah, I think you got it. Mom called it in favour of tomatoes, so that's coming first,

SCSponge

We need Conan the Barbarian (1982)

ComicBookGuy

Right she said so during the live stream.

Mark Sylvester

Ashleigh is reacting to Casablanca. It is just going to be a week later. Am I missing something?

Mark Sylvester

I mean, people can hate on Casablanca all they want (people hate on all kinds of great films) but it’s objectively film history. Skipping Casablanca is the same as skipping Star Wars or the MCU. Its influence is pretty overwhelming.

Brian Harris

I may be all-in for Casablanca -- I sent you a Blu-ray, and I haven't even seen Fried Green Tomatoes yet -- but I respect that what mom says goes. Plus, I figure we'll just get Casablanca the week after...right?

Tyler Foster

Whose water are you carrying? ;)

old _Navy_twidget

I don't like to be mean in the comments, but you constantly post this whine. Let's go back to why this series was started in the first place. From Ashleigh's own description as to why she started doing this in the first place. "A few week ago on Ken Heron's TNL - you found out that I haven't seen classics like Jaws, Star Wars, Harry Potter, ET, and MANY more. Need your suggestions and I'll compile a list of movies that I HAVE to watch. Comment you top must watch movie(s) " Nothing about "stuff nobody else has watched", "obscure crap nobody else has even heard of", "only things other channels haven't done", it's things other people think she has to watch at some point. Hold onto your hat, but a fact of life is that stuff a bunch of people think you should see just might include some stuff other people have seen.

Kenton Kruger

You always listen to your MOM!!! No Backtalk Either!!

Andy Hafler

We work hard, we vote, we promote classic-film literacy, and Ash watches the cutesy chick-flick because her MOMMY SAID SO?? What the heck are we paying our Patreon money for?

Eric Janssen

Just tuned in for the live unboxing and from what I've seen and read, the next few months will be the same movies as the other channels 😑

Danika Silva

Gah! Come on Fried Green Tomatoes!!

Lynnetta

That's a perfectly valid opinion. But it's all subjective.

David Crabtree

Casablanca is not a masterpiece. It has a weak plot, atrocious acting and a pathetic ending. Only people swayed by the almighty popular opinion would claim they like this film.

Andy Hafler

Come on Fried Green Tomatoes stomp Casablanca like a Tremors Monster.

Andy Hafler

Towanda!!!!!!!!

Andy Hafler

Come on, "Casablanca"... ou can do it...! :P

Manuel Johnen

If you don't react to Fried Green Tomatoes I might cry. Jk... maybe. Haha. But seriously out of this list I think it's the must-watch for you. You like Kathy Bates, yes? And badass southern women? Because this movie has both. Towanda!!!!

GEEZ.

Ashleigh Burton

COMING SOON

Ashleigh Burton

I KNOW!

Ashleigh Burton

neck and neck

ingibingi2000

TOOTSIE!! YOU HAVE TO WATCH TOOTSIE!

AAAAA - when will Fried Green Tomatoes finally get a win?! I NEED Ashleigh to watch it!

Derri .

“Here’s lookin at you, kid.”

Nick of Time

I think if I was a top tier patreon, I'd try and make Ash cry every month.

Tim Gilbert

Really hoping Casablanca finally ekes out a win here.

Tyler Foster

Fried Green Tomatoes is great! Edit: And I love EATING fried green tomatoes, too! :)

Carl L. Atkinson Jr.

I think you would like Fried Green Tomatoes best. It's so good!

Jill Peterson

1776 is one of my favorites!

Rhinehold

I would love for you to watch French Kiss with Kevin Kline (1995)

Michelle Denny

Why not a double feature surprise! Pretty in Pink = John Hughes = Weird Science = Ferris Bueller = Dogma (with Matt Damon and Ben Affleck) PLS watch 1776 (1972) its a musical about the signing of the Declaration of Independence. (be funny is if you watch National Treasure afterward)

Nicholas & Heather

But it's not about what we would watch, it's about what would get a fun reaction from Ashleigh, good or bad.

David Crabtree

Don't really see anything I would want to watch except maybe Spies Like Us. But here's a few that I could suggest Wayne's World Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure Speed The Karate Kid (The one with Pat Morita) Revenge Of The Nerds American Psycho Labyrinth Career Opportunties

Keith Boyd

Ah man Fried Green Tomatoes is butt.

ChickensAreRacist

Spies Like Us or Fried Green Tomatoes are the two Ashleigh would like based on what she's liked in the past. I still think The Color Purple is a MUST!!!!

Candace Anderson

Fried green tomatoes is just a solid film. Also read up on spitfire grill. For touching sci fi try frequency. So many movies I'd like to watch you watch. Reminds me of college and sharing each others favorite movies and shows. Im from WV so I love that southern sass. Almost like watching a movie with friends in person. I looked forward to you a lot on Mondays and then later when Fridays started. Was a mile marker for the covid months. Gave one more thing to look forward to each week. Thank you for what you do.

Prefer that one so much more.

Kenton Kruger

If you do "Pretty in Pink" you then have to watch John Hughes "do-over" for the film, "Somekind of Wonderful."

No

T.J. Gengler

Vote for Casablanca you heathens.

Adolfo Acosta

A few suggestions: Sling Blade Fargo A Simple Plan Napoleon Dynamite O Brother Where Art Thou?

Kevin Townsend

I think I voted for "Ernest Scared Stupid", er, I mean "Casablanca" because I am 39 and have yet to watch it, and probably should have by now. 🤔

William Wall

THE USER NAME. 😂😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

I will reiterate a couple from a bit back..."Paper Moon"(1973) and "The Hidden"(1987)

Paul Johnson

So am I wrong for not voting for CASABLANCA because I don't like it?

T.J. Gengler

Ok, I just saw Spies Like Us. I would recommend skipping it.

Michael Waldrep

So many great films out there that she hasnt thought about yet. I could name 12 that I've been campaigning for, but they haven't made a Poll yet.

Mark Finley

I can't believe people don't like these movies. It boggles the mind.

Andy Hafler

I have no horse in the race here, I don’t like any of these movies. 😝 I’ll be abstaining. Waiting for Ladyhawke, Karate Kid, and Ferris to get on the list. 😊

Heather Qualy

Write in vote for Better Off Dead.

JayF

People TALK!...That sux! Why don't they just shuddup already, just because CGI hadn't been invented yet! ;)

Eric Janssen

Casablanca is considered one of the bestmovies of all time. Ashleigh needs to start with some of the older classics but she has to realize these movies have a different pacing and more dialogue than modern movies.

Bill Bevins

And Bill Murray as a sidekick, at that.

Eric Janssen

that's just heresy. Casablanca is rightly one of the greatest movies ever made. Yes, it's a slow burn - the world of movies isn't divided into OMG AVENGERS INFINITY WAR and boring shit.

SCSponge

oh, for heaven's sake - vote for Casablanca already! Whoever got the idea to not vote for it in case she doesn't like it - it's a love story. It has Humphrey Bogart, and Ingrid Bergman. Of course she'll like it.

SCSponge

Tootsie (1982). Dustin Hoffman, Jessica Lange, Teri Garr, and Bill Murray.

JHB

The Apartment is great, but I prefer Irma la Douce.

Kenton Kruger

Pretty in Pink, because I fancy some 80's cheese.

iamrman82

Not all of us loved that movie.

Kenton Kruger

ROBOCOP

Timothy Estrada

I don't think you're going to love any of these, casablanca is going to bore you to death. Pretty is pink is probably the best one of of the bunch, but it's got some problems too.

Mark Finley

If you’re looking for another good black and white movie, The Apartment is *chef’s kiss*. Understated, heartfelt, and woefully unknown to younger generations. It’s got a baby-faced Shirley MacLaine in it too!

Ali D

I've thought about using clerks as a pick, but I would definitely inform her of just how indie an indie film it is, that much context is needed to appreciate it

ingibingi2000

Casablanca is one of my all time favorites, really liked Fried Green Tomatoes, got bored through Pretty In Pink and for some reason haven't seen Spies Like Us. I know you'll like Fried Green Tomatoes, I think you'll like Casablanca, I kinda doubt you'll like Pretty In Pink, but it's worth watching, and I have no idea about Spies Like Us.

Michael Waldrep

I strongly agree with this. Chevy Chase is particular is just annoying to me. He was watchable in CADDYSHACK. Beyond that, I can't think of a single film of his that rises above mediocre.

T.J. Gengler

If Casablanca doesn't win this time, it needs to be replaced by another classic black and white movie: Clerks.

Thomas Ivie

I like all of these movies! But yay, fried green tomatoes and casablanca!

Rebecca Anne

I like your thinking 😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

Spies like us is not good enough of a movie to be voted yet.

Tim Gilbert

I strongly second this! A definite must see!

Carl Sage

People, please pick Fried Green Tomatoes!

Jennifer

I’m going to be really sad if you don’t get to Fried Green Tomatoes this time around. Full disclosure: I really want you to watch Casablanca, but more for me than for you.😅

Ullatec

Feeling the need for some farce circa the 1980's, so I *had* to go for 'Spies Like Us'...no matter what the various admitted positive points for all the other choices are. #NeedTheGrins

Carl Sage

Sorry, she hasn't seen Enter the Dragon yet. (And if she does, that still means watching that copy of "Kentucky Fried Movie" next, so get in line.)

Eric Janssen

Okay. Finally: Even though a dozen other reactors have given in to peer pressure and watched Casablanca by now, you still owe us this from February. (Just be careful about playing That Song on the YouTube, Warner's already come down medieval on a few folks who did.) And would I guess there a few kiddie-winkies on the poll who HAVEN’T SEEN it yet, from the string of “Sheesh, none of these are good! How about an 80's classic?” comments? Movie-literacy is fundamental.

Eric Janssen

You have some classics in this list.

Jerrod Acree

Just keep it the same so you can burn through these and hopefully you will post a new selection afterwards lol

Danika Silva

Or mix it up and check out an 80s classic The Last Dragon

djhyjak

I didn't check the dates on these - my bad!

Ashleigh Burton

I'll be sure to switch it up next time!

Ashleigh Burton

😂😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

Go, Casablanca! GO!

Brandon Royce

Terrible selection to choose from...just mho, and you'll probably have some different options by next year

Danika Silva

Hmmm, not my favorite selection I must say. Voting for two: Pretty in Pink for me (though I'd rather Sixteen Candles or Some Kind of Wonderful) Fried Green Tomatoes since I think Ashleigh will really like it

Kenton Kruger

I’d LOVE to see you watch War Games!

Robert T. Nickerson

Back to the 80s!! Please.

Jerrod Acree

Y’all better say Fried Green Tomatoes. 😂🤣
