Watch Along: Ed Wood

Watch Along: Ed Wood

Comments

Great watch along...it's been a while since I've seen this in its entirety but yes the film has great messages about being true to yourself and your dreams as well as the value of having loyal friends(e.g. Ed and Bela)and presents them in such a sweet and heartfelt manner that I can remember getting misty eyed in certain parts...and seeing it again years later it still has that charm...probably my favorite Depp performance

Paul Johnson

"The Creeping Terror", "Beast of Yucca Flats"(starring EW regular Tor Johnson) and "The Room" all give "Plan 9" a run for its money(the 1st 2 were also riffed by MST3K)

If you have Tubi (it's free, supported by ads), you can watch the Mystery Science Theater episode that did Wood's Bride of the Monster and the Rifftrax of Plan 9. Wood gets a bad rap as the worst director of all time. He was definitely bad, but there's some stiff competition for Plan 9 out there, like Manos: The Hands of Fate (also done by both MST3K and Rifftrax), which was made by a fertilizer salesman to win a bet that anyone could make a horror movie, and Death Bed: The Bed That Eats (not riffed by anyone as far as I know).

Kevin Mowery

Some geniuses in the early 90s thought it would be a good idea to make a Plan 9 From Outer Space video game for Amiga and Atari. It wasn't a very good game (bleeding surprise) but i got it for free when buying a bunch of other games, AND each copy of the game came with a free VHS of the movie. Yay!

i love this movie and yes Ed Wood was a cross dresser. Also Martin Landau, who played Bela Lugosi, won an oscar for best supporting actor for this. someday we are gonna have to get you to watch the original Universal Monster movies. Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Mummy and The Wolf Man. Also your first introduction to Johnny Depp was Nightmare on Elm st.

Bleedingreen

Bela Lugosi was a genius of horror. Martin Landau won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar award for playing Bela in this film.

Jill Peterson

I love how you react to racist, sexist, and other discriminatory, and harmful language. It's great to see that in the younger generations.
