EARLY ACCESS: Ed Wood

Thanks for being patient while this uploaded!  it JUST completed so I don't have thumbnail, time stamps, or anything ready for this.

I don't want to blow over this review BUT I DO WANNA SAY.  I hope you're ready for Monday. 🤫

EARLY ACCESS: Ed Wood

Comments

This is one of two Tim Burton movies I really like... everything else he's done I'm at best lukewarm on. The other movie is "Sleepy Hollow", by the way...

Manuel Johnen

It does that as she gets it ready to go for main consumption on YouTube

Happy Birthday Gemini bro! Enjoy! :)

Paul Johnson

This is the one I'll be remembered for. I'd love to go up to him and say good new and bad. The good yes, you are right this is the one you'll be remembered for! The bad yes, you are right this is the one you'll be remembered for.

Eric

I can see the watchalong, but I can not see the EARLY ACCESS: Ed Wood b/c it is marked as private?

Graham Martin

Video shows as "Marked as Private"

Graham Martin

You saw an even younger Depp in “A Nightmare on Elm Street”!

Ian Jones

"That is one hairy gentleman." I don't think I have heard a more perfect description of George "The Animal" Steele!

Mark Sylvester

ROBOCOP

I was gonna be impressed that you knew Elvis' daughter's name and then I remembered that Elvis was perhaps the most famous Tennessee resident of all-time....and Graceland is there. Felt sheepish for a second. Also IIRC Basil Rathbone was a long-time Sherlock Holmes actor. Also I getting some serious Freddie Mercury vibes with Depp in some of the scenes. If they made a Queen film in the 90s he would have been a perfect actor for it....minus the voice.

Vincent Price used to tell a story that he was standing in front of Lugosi's casket at his wake when Peter Lorre came up behind him and said "Do you think we should drive a stake through his heart...just to be sure?"

Paul Johnson

Another famously cheap and prolific director from that timeframe was William "One Shot" Beaudine so named because of his extreme aversion to retakes...

Paul Johnson

Wow...I thought "Tremors" was today was very pleasantly surprised to see this one! I loved this film (I have a special place in my heart for certain "bad" films and filmmakers) and Burton did a bang up job in making EW's story funny and compelling...Depp was great in the lead role and it's too bad you don't have a Bela Lugosi point of reference to see how masterfully Martin Landau channeled him(also Martin's daughter Juliet Landau played Loretta King the actress who conned Ed into giving her Delores' leading role...she's probably best known for playing Drusilla on "Buffy the Vampire Slayer")...loved your reaction it is so fun to watch when a movie makes an emotional connection with you like this one did...Best of wishes and have a wonderful weekend Ashleigh!

Paul Johnson

You've got some Lugosi and Karloff movies coming to get a better idea of what kind of actors they were. While Karloff thrived after his turn as the Frankenstein monster, Lugosi struggled to achieve the same kind of career. Some have suggested that his reluctance to improve his use of English as one of the reasons for this. Also, as this movie depicts, Bela was buried draped in his Dracula cape.

Alexander Fish

Still kills me that Johnny Depp was a block away from my house filming this and I had no idea! Missed opportunity to meet him 😩. I love this movie and can’t wait to watch your reaction to it.

Michelle Denny

Isn't the box angora?

I wish they'd bring back the talking filibuster

Great reaction, I'd forgotten that this was a Tim Burton flick. Glad that you could fully appreciate it having seen Plan 9. Excited for you to see Edward Scissorhands someday, another Burton flick that stars Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder.

Laura Neary Smith

I second: Independence Day and Mr Smith Goes to Washington :)

Jennifer M

President movies for July? Dave starring Kevin Kline & Sigourney Weaver 1776 (the musical) Mr. Smith Goes to Washington starring James Stewart Independence Day with Will Smith and the guy from Jurassic Park Man of the Year, starring Robin Williams

Nicholas & Heather

Martin Landau won Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role as Bella Lugosi. I saw Ed Wood in the theatre and I found it enjoyable and inspirational.

Michael Waldrep

One other thing. If you watch “How the Grinch Stole Christmas”, you’re listening to the voice of Boris Karloff.

Richard Meyer

In answer to your question: yes, there was a set of "studios" referred to as "poverty row" that would crank out really, *REALLY* cheap movies in about a weeks time. You might have heard of the term "B picture" meaning a so-so, lower grade movie? Well poverty row made grade Z pictures. You can find a lot of them out in public domain - because folks let copyright lapse and such - and they used to sell them in things like the "50 Mystery Movies" DVD sets at Walmart for $10. Stuff like that. Roger Corman who made the original non-musical film 'Little Shop of Horrors' is also famous for his short timeframe of shooting films. Which is where people like Ron Howard and James Cameron both got their start in movies. True story.

Ed Wood was a Marine at Tarawa, one of the most horrific battles of World War II. He was wearing women’s clothing underneath his uniform. As far as I’m concerned, any Marine who survived Tarawa can wear all the women’s clothing he wants.

Richard Meyer

Ya know Ashleigh, I've got the entire Ed Wood box set on a shelf somewhere around here. Maybe I should send it to your PO box so you can actually watch Glen or Glenda. It's better than you might think. By that I mean that it's unlikely to give you cancer.

T.J. Gengler

“This is my first introduction to Johnny Depp on the channel.” Nightmare on Elm Street Johnny: AM I A JOKE TO YOU?! Honestly though, awesome reaction! Proud & glad to say Johnny is my Gemini brother, and I appreciate him and his talent as a performer always. Stuff the haters who wanna cancel him! All love here though. Ha! Everyone has an opinion, and they’re like buttholes. They all stink. Worth the wait Ash! On my way to Cabo now. 🏝☀️🙌🏼
