EARLY ACCESS: A Fish Called Wanda

Comments

“Requiem For Dream” is incredible. Hard film to watch, but one basically everyone should see at least once. Also, “Trainspotting”.

Nick of Time

Consider watching Once Upon A time in America (unabridged version) or Requiem For A Dream for serious stuff. Who Framed Roger Rabbit or Batman: The Movie (1966) with Adam West for something not as serious.

Maybe "Idiocracy " or "Map of the human heart" comedy and drama, both really good.

Pleas V Morton

I think you'd enjoy the 1988 romantic comedy "Working Girl." It stars Melanie Griffith, Harrison Ford, Sigourney Weaver, and Alec Baldwin, with many wonderful actors in supporting roles, including Olympia Dukakis. It also has one of the best title songs ever, Carly Simon's beautiful and inspiring "Let the River Run." I think you'll especially like the 80s big hair and big shoulders.

Elliot Nesterman

I think you would like Crimes of the Heart . Maybe even Cousins

Sophia_CA

TRUE LIES (1994) is fantastic with Curtis, also a terrific Arnold Schwarzenegger movie!

AmyGENX

Please for the love of God include the movie called Cool Hand Luke in your next poll

Danika Silva

True Lies

sarah preston

Trading places is a great Jamie lee Flick ...she's stunning and also she flashes her beautiful BOOBIES!!!!!!!!👀😋

WEEZER MANN

I think you would get a kick out of True Lies, Soapdish and French Kiss

Michelle Denny

Also Michael Palin's character's name Ken may(or may not)be a reference to Ken Shabby, a recurring character he played on the "Monty Python's Flying Circus" TV show

Paul Johnson

For more Jamie Lee Curtis, check out True Lies. You'll probably love it. 🙂

I saw it first run and found it extremely funny and very well constructed. I was not at all disappointed. Being familiar with Cleese's post-Python work in Fawlty Towers I was not expecting Pythonesque absurd humor but a straight ahead comedy. I recall Cleese saying in an interview that it's always difficult to come up with something comic that is original, but he was very pleased with the hanging out the window scene. Starting the shot with the camera upside down in close up and then turning it to reveal the full scene was an effect that neither he, nor the director, had ever seen done. Usually the camera just cuts to the person upside-down, so there's no surprise. No surprise isn't funny; surprise is.

Elliot Nesterman

“Funny, but not outstanding” was always my reaction too, since we’d already seen John Cleese do funnier slapstick farce in his Fawlty Towers series, and here, he’s practically the straight character with Kline getting all the gags. That, and the whole plot of the movie revolving around Cleese’s neurotic offstage phobia of Americans, which also got a little distracting in Monty Python’s Meaning of Life. Now, if you want good “pseudo-Python”, we’re still waiting for more than one reactor to react to Time Bandits....

Eric Janssen

Kline was a serious stage actor, until his talent for deadpan clowning it up had been discovered in the 80’s stage and movie of “The Pirates of Penzance”, and Cleese cast him for the comedy role based on that. Due to a mixup, though, nobody ever SAW the Pirates of Penzance movie in theaters, so Otto falsely got all the credit for “inventing” Kline’s comedy career. (And I know Ash’s got a copy of Soapdish, but what about the ‘99 Midsummer Night’s Dream?)

Eric Janssen

I really like Kevin Kline. Dave, French Kiss, In & Out, Soapdish, etc... And True Lies needs to make the list, if not already there.

Luis Torrefranca

Cool Monty Python links...those reactions were very funny

Paul Johnson

Side note, nobody on the internet has ever done a reaction to O’ brother where art thou. Which you would love.

haha Ash has a Nakatomi plaza shirt

eric brown

Fun fact: John Cleese's original family name was actually Cheese. His father changed it to Cleese. He once joked about changing it back after moving to Monterrey, California, so he could call himself Monterrey Jack Cheese.

Andy H.

If you love Jamie Lee in this, you should watch Trading Places some time soon.

Terrel Geer

Making a Disney connection for you - Kevin Kline (Otto) played Belle's dad in the live action Beauty and the Beast, and he was also the voice of Pheobus in The Hunckback of Notre Dame. (my favorite Disney movie btw).

Lynnetta

I'm so glad you enjoyed this film Ashleigh. It's always been one of my favorites and watching you view it with fresh eyes brings it all back. Thank you very much for the experience. I know you said you found Otto very unlikable but I ask you to please not let it dissuade you from watching more of Kevin Kline's work. I believe the man is truly very talented with excellent comedic timing and a flair for darkly dramatic roles as well. He's definitely an actor worthy of further investigation.

T.J. Gengler

Have you seen her in Halloween? Or the Stepford Wives with Katharine Ross from 1975?

John Cleese's character was named Archie Leach. Archibald Leach is Cary Grant's real name.

Bill Bevins

Another movie that has John Cleese AND Kevin Cline (among other actors) is Silverado. Truly a must see!

Ullatec

😎😎😎

Ashleigh Burton

WELL... I didn't.

Ashleigh Burton

I thought Ken looked familiar but I just couldn't place him!

Ashleigh Burton

I like the movie more than you do, but 4 out of 5 stars is fair. I think you'll like Jurassic Park.

Michael Waldrep

It’s such a good movie! It’s clearly not for everyone but I’m glad you enjoyed it. Well I can’t wait to see your reaction to “Welcome to Jurassic Park.”

Gio Vidrio

I am SOOOOOOO looking forward to seeing your reaction to this movie. It's one of my all time favorites. Off to watch now!

Rebecca Monk

She was also pretty hot in Trading Places.

Bill Bevins

Watch true lies That was actually Jamie Lee Curtis’s favorite project to work on

Dylan

Kevin Kline is one of my all time favorites, largely because of this movie.

Kate Cassidy

Girl, you’ve got to see True Lies. Jamie Lee Curtis is incredibly funny in that and she’s a smoke show.

Kate Cassidy

You're not *supposed* to like Otto or Wendy :)

Sinjoro Griego

FYI. Michael Palin was one of the members of Monty Python.

Billy Hogner

If you can call an Academy Award winning movie "underrated", ok...

Thomas Yanez

Ken/Michael Palin is also part of Monty Python. Also Trading Places is a must for around the holidays!

Matt G

This is in my Top 20 films of all time. All the characters are quirky and hilarious. Otto and Ken are my favorites. Hope you get around to seeing this groups 2nd film Fierce Creatures. Oh and on a side note Kevin Kline won the Oscar for best supporting actor for his role as Otto.

thumperworld

This film is under rated IMHO. Can't wait to watch your reaction. Thanks.

Tony Williams

One of my favorite comedies of all time. Kevin Kline was brilliant in this. I have the DVD. Will do the watchalong later tonight.
