I'm hoping for the hugely underrated Corn masterpiece The Hudsucker Proxy. But I won't be surprised if I can't get that unless I weasel my way into the $100 tier.

They're all great films but Fargo is just fantastic. It's my vote for the next Coen Bros. movie review.

"there is not a run of dialogue that is ever gonna be boring"
Except for almost the entirety of "Death Proof", which is almost nothing BUT dialogue that is exceedingly boring and unnecessary... and is just barely redeemed somewhat by the impressively filmed car chase at the end.

I don’t know if anyone mentioned it already. Steve Buscemi was the waiter at Jack Rabbit Slim’s restaurant. He is known for Big Labowski, Fargo, and Reservoir Dogs

Yep, there was a craze for Q-Wannabes, in the wake of Pulp. I remember the joke in the 90's: "How many independent filmmakers does it take to change a lightbulb? Three--One to screw it in, and two to hold the guns sideways."

Tarantino's track record isn't perfect. He lost an essential collaborator with the tragic passing of his editor Sally Menke after the making of Inglourious Basterds (his last masterpiece). That said, I've seen enough people who either try to do what Tarantino does by ripping his style off (the pastiche of references and influences) or try to do what Tarantino does by ripping Tarantino off (aping his dialogue, his zig-zagging narratives, his ear for soundtracks or eye for casting) that it's easy to say that even if what he does isn't for everyone, what he does isn't as simple as being a cinematic Cuisinart.

"Pulp Fiction" is alright, but there are several of Tarantino's movies that are much better... and also some that are considerably worse.

More Quentin Tarantino? Oh, joy. 🙄 Glad you put out a couple reactions per week, so I can skip those. I am not in the love it or hate it group. I thought the movie was “fine” when I saw it in ‘94, and have never had any desire to ever watch it again. And I thought this was better than the couple other Quentin Tarantino ones I’ve seen.

Yes Tarantino swiped a lot from older films...but there's nothing wrong with being inspired! He was inspired by some of the best films.. But one must admit he makes a great creative filter the result is a captivating film with great dialog, pace and visuals🤔

Tarantino is (like John Landis and Joe Dante) one of those directors you'd rather hear talk ABOUT classic cult movies for two hours than actually watch the ones he makes.

Q also did an uncredited script-doctoring on tidy 90's Gene Hackman/Denzel Washington thriller "Crimson Tide", back before his breakout days. Betcha couldn't tell, when US Navy submarine officers suddenly start having an involved conversation about Marvel's Silver Surfer comics.

Two stories sum up the reasons why even fans who liked Pulp Fiction learn to dislike Tarantino films:
1) Uma Thurman complained on the “Kill Bill” set that she didn’t want to play her character as sleeping in a coma with her eyes open, because…that’s silly. Tarantino’s response (and he told this story himself), was, “But that’s how they did it in ‘Patrick’!” [a culty 70’s B-horror about a guy in a coma] Basically, as a director, Tarantino does whatever his favorite geek-culty 70’s movies TELL him to do.
2) One of the reasons Tarantino has an encyclopedic knowledge of every 60's-70’s geek-culty movie ever made is, his first job was reportedly as a video-store clerk, where he would often nag his average suburban customers to watch 70’s girl-gang B-drama “Switchblade Sisters”, because it was a movie they, quote, “had” to see…Um, that experience sound familiar? ;)

I get the love it or hate it. When this came out in theaters. I walked out and spent many years hating this film. I was forced to watch it one weekend by a family member, and have loved it ever since.

Yes, your reaction to Tarantino was pretty much every movie fan’s reaction to Tarantino’s career:
1994: “OMG, Pulp Fiction jumps around plots, and the killer soundtrack, and references pop culture every line! It’s so DIFFERENT!!
Present-day: “Sheesh, all Tarantino does is jump around plots, put 80’s songs in, and remakes movies he’s seen...All his movies are the SAME!” 🤣

This was fun! It’s super exciting when you subvert expectations and either love a classic that many might think you would t connect with (Pulp Fiction in this case), or hate on a timeless masterpiece (The Godfather). I don’t hate this movie, it is super quotable in many real world situations but I didn’t love it either.
Check out Snatch or Reservoir Dogs for a similar style of movie!

One thing that is fun to look as you watch future Tarantino movies is that all of his films technically take place in the same universe. There are small references here and there to characters and events from other Tarantino movies, and there are some common threads, like the fictional "Red Apple" brand cigarettes.
In the script and/or a deleted scene (I can't remember if it was filmed or not), Butch is shown to be the mystery man who keyed Vincent's car. There was also a deleted scene (this one I know was shot) where Mia asks Vincent if he's a Beatles man or an Elvis man, which is why she says "an Elvis man should love it" when they get to Jack Rabbit Slim's. I feel like you mentioned something with Hubben and Beatles vs. Elvis in the Live, so you might like that.
There is a little cameo during the Jack Rabbit Slims scene: Steve Buscemi plays the waiter. You'll see him whenever you watch The Big Lebowski and Reservoir Dogs, among others.
My two favorite Tarantino movies are Jackie Brown and Inglourious Basterds. The latter is very long, but based on this I think you'll be okay with the tension in it, although it is even more violent than this -- there are a couple of moments that will definitely gross you out.
Harvey Weinstein, unfortunately, was one of the most powerful and prolific producers in Hollywood. He produced most of Tarantino's movies, as well as most of Kevin Smith's movies (who you may not know now but someone will probably recommend), and many others, as he ran two different studios before he was rightfully jailed.
This film opened the same day as The Shawshank Redemption.

If she watches The Spirit, then she should probably do that after Sin City, since Sin City is the reason The Spirit looks like it does -- the comic that the movie is based on looks nothing like the movie.

I saw this one the year it came out in a packed house at the ONE DOLLAR theater and the audience response was purely electric! It was like the beginning of a new era in action/ drama movies. John Travolta is in this??? Yeah, it was his big comeback movie. He had fallen into obscurity after Saturday Night Fever/ Staying Alive (his dancing days). Is it a coincidence there’s a dancing scene in Pulp Fiction? May I be bold enough to say also... The reason Samuel Jackson is in “everything” because of his breakout role in this movie. I want to recommend THE SPIRIT superhero movie (not the horse cartoon) when you’re finished with the MCU. Sam Jackson AND Scarlet Johannsen both dress like Nazis in it for no actual reason. Hard to believe now it exists at all! Eva Mendes is hot in it, and if that’s not enough— Sara Paulson too

The briefcase was a Macguffin. Important to the characters and the plot of the movie, but unimportant by itself. The British guy robbing the restaurant is Tim Roth ,he was in The Incredible Hulk as Abomination or as Ashleigh put it-Bad Hulk. Enjoyed the reaction 😁

I am a MASSIVE Tarantino fan. Love love love his work, and I'm very glad you are on the side of loving it too. :) - I was excited during your unboxing when I saw a fellow patreon had gifted you with all his films. Cannot wait to see your reactions to them. They will get longer - just FYI - but it's Tarantino - there is not a run of dialogue that is ever gonna be boring...lol. His films are challenging, raw, entertaining as hell - and worth the watch (or rewatches in my case...lol).

Also the "Ezekiel" passage is lifted from the 1976 martial arts film "The Bodyguard" featuring Japanese martial arts star Sonny Chiba whom Quentin T. was a huge fan of...he appeared as Hattori Hanzo in "Kill Bill" and IMO is the reason Bruce Lee comes off as such a jerk in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood"...apparently QT felt Chiba was more deserving of the superstar status Lee attained in the 70's

Let me just say, I’m glad you understand the meme of “Written & Directed by Quentin Tarantino” with Ariel from Little Mermaid looking at her own foot. 😂
Pulp Fiction is the staple movie of Quentin’s career, but let me just say all his movies will have been executive produced by the Weinstein’s and you’re right that it doesn’t age well. The fact this movie came out when we were born is just one of many GREAT movies that came out in 1994. Okay I’m done. Watch out for spiders 🕷

This was also my first Tarantino. I saw it in the theaters when I was 21 and was absolutely blown away. I also highly recommend "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" and two films he wrote but did not direct, "True Romance" and "From Dusk Til Dawn".
I do want to warn you, Tarantino has a foot fetish that becomes more and more obvious in each film, and it is especially obvious in "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".

I saw this movie 7 times in the theatre because I loved the movie that much AND I wanted to see my friend's reactions to the jolting scenes. I agree that if you don't like the way it was edited, don't like the amount of dialogue or violence, you would hate this movie, but it's one of my favorites!

I met Tarantino once in an airport in Austin. He was very gracious and very TALL. The man is tall as #%&! He was in the middle of a conversation when I approached and asked for an autograph ( I was 19 and blissfully unaware of how intrusive I was being.) He asked me to let him finish up and I stood off to the side for 20 minutes while he took care of business. Then he came over to me and gave me an autograph for my brother who was/is a major fan, and he sauntered away.
