EARLY ACCESS: Predator

Comments

Marvels will be Captain Marvel and her comic protege Ms Marvel (AKA Kamala Khan) who you may know from the Avengers video game that came out last year. Almost assured Carol Danvers is returning, they just want to add Khan to it. Good way to include a new demographic to the audiences.

I know they changed it to THE MARVELS. But you don’t really know why or what that means yet. You’re just speculating Brie Larson may not be in it. No one knows that they information until it comes out. They may just be trying to make it into a MARVELS super family kind of like the Incredibles, only all female. The all-girl Avengers probably won’t happen in full length movie form.

Fatty Boombatty

If it were such a self-sustaining unquestionable hit that made quote-unquote A BILLION DOLLARS, then why is there all this need for fluffing up the sequel into something different? Someone deleted 1000s of negative reviews on rotten tomatoes and took away the option to vote negatively on it. Ever since then, rotten tomatoes has been a dead reference point for me. Unreliable! Thanks Captain Marvel! She’s so tough, someone has to protect her

Fatty Boombatty

It still doesn't, and sounds like isolated Spec-rambling off your last post, but believe me, Disney is NOT "protecting" Brie Larson, and for all the aforementioned reasons and more. The Spiderman and Captain Marvel sequels have a long production history of "How can we sell something else about Captain Marvel besides HER??" (The fact that Cap's sequel is now "The Marvels", some speculate is Disney/MCU trying to make up for demonstrable box-office-poison two years later.)

Eric Janssen

This comment only makes sense after reading the replies of the previous comment 😬😬😬

Fatty Boombatty

I couldn’t stand Brie Larson at the time Captain Marvel came out. She had this bitchy attitude like: l do MY OWN STUNTS! (she didn’t) and I’m A DIRECTOR NOW. Who could forget the masterpiece- The Unicorn Store on Netflix? And, I’M THE MOST POWERFUL AVENGER! Disney was protecting her at the time like no other! And Alita Battle Angel was 100 times better which came out the same time. I still don’t like Brie Larson, but I think she has improved a lot. She smiles more. She guest hosted a tonight-show with her boobs on full display (and she wasn’t terrible). She has her own YouTube channel- I only looked at once for a few seconds, but what I saw was typical (but not that evil Brie everyone hates). So even Rob-Pat deserves another chance! What I don’t like are these team- Bella’s coming out of the woodwork saying K-Stew should be Catwoman! Now THATS STUPID!!! 😡 let go of Twilight already

Fatty Boombatty

If you’re willing to forget the unfortunate thing that happened called The Twilight Saga, maybe you can give the new Batman a fighting chance

Fatty Boombatty

Ironically, "THE Predator" is not THE shit... it is just shit...

Manuel Johnen

I'm kinda torn over this. I like DAWN OF THE DEAD and would like to see Ashleigh react to it but I would like to see her do the '68 original Romero NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD first. Maybe it's just my OCD but let get the OG zombie genre foundation first. Where we go from there, I'm not sure I greatly care.

T.J. Gengler

Or the 1978 original....both are very good

Paul Johnson

That one is one of the few remakes that was very well done. Lots of action and not stop WTF moments. There are some movies that do well with story telling and some that do well with visuals. Dawn of the Dead isn't exactly Hamlet but one that will not let you rest until it is done.

GamerGal8684

Beware of "THE sequels": They're basically attempts to reboot the house studio franchise brandname from scratch, after the last movie drove it off the rails--But they don't want to give the impression that this is a linear sequel to the previous movies, hence the definite grammatical article to legally differentiate their title from the original. Which was a good idea for "THE Wolverine", and maybe for "THE Final Destination", and, ironically, the The-less "Fast & Furious", but I'm not looking forward to Robert Pattinson in "THE Batman".

Eric Janssen

Regarding "Escape from New York", she needs it to continue her education in the area of "John Carpenter and Kurt Russell collaborations". We've done "The Thing" and "Big Trouble in Little China". Maybe we can even do "Elvis" eventually.

Thomas Yanez

I heard THE Predator (the latest one using the definite article) was absolutely terrible. From a “hilarious” case of Tourette’s Syndrome 🤨🤨🤨 and a kid with autism that gives him a kind of super power (?) Kind of like a middle schooler’s level of sophistication/ understanding of cognitive disorders. Look out, it’s a really big Hunter-Hunter chasing the smaller predator who is also a hunter 🙄

Fatty Boombatty

Arnold movie: Twins

Kevin Maynard

We’re....not talking about James Cameron’s origins? We were talking about where to start with Arnold, and we weren’t ready for him yet in Conan the Barbarian. Basically, the Terminator created both Cameron AND Schwarzenegger.

Eric Janssen

I've seen Prometheus, but I've heard that the Predator race were involved. https://www.reddit.com/r/FanTheories/comments/un4yf/predators_created_aliens/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Andy H.

Better yet, just watch each movie separately, and stop trying to figure Fox/Ridley Scott’s nutty ideas to make them join hands n the dark.

Eric Janssen

“This movie was mentioned a lot with Alien” - Uh, yeah, as their other Big Action Franchise, Fox made very sure we always associated the two together. A couple of severely underwhelming “Aliens vs. Predator” movies also helped do the job.

Eric Janssen

Actually you have to watch Dawn of the dead (2004)

Brett Delbridge

Ashley have you thought of doing a game play reaction series!?

Brett Delbridge

@Joe - I'm not really expecting to see genuine concern on the "Hubbin Cam". More like "What the heck kind of Michael Bay clown porn does she have in there?!"

T.J. Gengler

It's fun looking for mud-Dutch in the thermal vision clips. Is that an Arnold shaped blob of blue? *squint* That IS an Arnold shaped blob of blue!

Luis Torrefranca

Ahh... the one liners and memes.

Luis Torrefranca

For some reason this is telling me that the video is private and I have to sign in to see it... but I am signed in? :( Edit: I signed out and signed back in and it is working now. Weird.

Nessa Arandur

See Prometheus if you want to learn about the origin of Aliens

Birdie Num Num

A little explanation that I don't think is a spoiler. The Predators are a race of intergalactic trophy hunters. If memory serves me correctly, they were instrumental in creating Aliens to have something dangerous to hunt. I could be wrong on that. I'm sure someone will correct me if I am.

Andy H.

In my experience, once you've lived with someone you love for long enough you become used to their needs - for example, my ex-wife was both a horror movie fan and an arachnophobe. I very quickly determined the difference between her screaming at a fictitious threat versus her screaming at a spider that I needed to evict from our apartment immediately...

Joe Hoy

Once the budget gets bigger, I can see something like this happening once she surpasses 100K subs. 🤞🏽

Gio Vidrio

In fairness (and it took me many years to realise this) - RoboCop was very much a satire of "macho" '80s attitudes... And they needed an athletic, but skinny actor like Peter Weller to fit the suit... Also, it's worth mentioning that Rob Bottin (the practical effects genius behind a lot of "The Thing") designed both the RoboCop suit and the (often gruesome) effects...

Joe Hoy

Now you’re talking outta your butthole. Terminator 2 only rivals Godfather 2 as far as best sequels go.

ChickensAreRacist

Hell yes I wanted to watch it my 24th time with Ashleigh. Jesus lord what the phuck. Love your screen name.

ChickensAreRacist

While I can't deny "The Terminator" (and its sequel) deserve to be on a future list, if we're talking about "how Jim Cameron got to be James Cameron", arguably "Escape From New York" should come before it - I say that because Cameron was low-key behind a lot of the effects work as much as Ashleigh might appreciate a Kurt Russell appetiser before taking on more Arnie... :D

Joe Hoy

No CGI in this one if I remember rightly - just very clever and well-executed practical and optical effects...

Joe Hoy

One thing I remember thinking when I first saw this movie was how much better and more natural Arnold's spoken English had become between "Conan" (1982), "The Terminator" (1984) and here. The guy deserves a lot of credit for putting in that amount of effort.

Joe Hoy

If Arnold films are going to start, Terminator has to be next.

Am I the only one who wishes there was a"Hubbin Cam" so we could see how he reacts to the screams, squeals, explosions and expletives blasting through the closet door? I'm so glad you enjoyed this flick. It's never been my favorite Arnold movie but it's a thrill ride and a half. Thank you for sharing it with us.

T.J. Gengler

This movie definitely throws a few curveballs - were it not for the opening shot in space, the first third of the story plays out almost like a regular action flick, complete with the twist that Dutch's old comrade Dillon essentially sold his team out by pretending an intelligence mission was a rescue. All of that was a fake-out just to show the audience how badass (unlike the "space truckers" in "Alien") Dutch's team were - so when the Predator starts taking these hardened veterans out, the audience know subconsciously that it is a far greater threat than they've likely seen in any movie before. The following year, John McTiernan went on to direct "Die Hard" - which essentially reverses the concept - an unarmed and unprepared protagonist who has to take on a "terrorist" cell who are both well-armed and very intelligent in terms of tactics and strategy...

Joe Hoy

Just a word of caution, just like Terminator— they took the greatest potential franchises of all time and made some real STINKER cash-grab movie sequels out of it. 😰😰😰 I’ll let you be the judge.

Fatty Boombatty

Did someone actually pay you extra to watch this, Ash? You should PAY THEM for watching one of the greatest action movies ever. Yes, it’s up there with Aliens. And yes, it’s the muscle handshake meme AND “get to the choppa!”

Fatty Boombatty

No!

Fatty Boombatty

I had never seen anything like it when released back in '87. I don't think anyone had? CGI was too new to the world. Awesome flick that still holds up well!

Hell of a ride, wasn’t it?

Richard Meyer

Now you need AvP Alien vs Predictor

David Harrison

Can anyone tell me if the patreon full length, in particular blazing saddles and airplane, do i need my own copy or is the movie in a little square I can just watch there?

Elisa H.

Other than the MCU, it might end up being the newest movie she watches on the channel, but she should watch Fury Road as well, IMO.

Tyler Foster

I'm thinking about it!

Ashleigh Burton

Holy cow... That is one smart dog tho.

Ashleigh Burton

HAHAAHAHAH procreated I'm DEAD 💀

Ashleigh Burton

I can see why you love them so much!

Ashleigh Burton

SO FUN.

Ashleigh Burton

You get a little more in the sequel, but the comics go into great detail. Some of that detail makes it into Alien v Predator.

Sean Novack

I voted for him!

Sean Novack

Don't forget Conan the Barbarian!

Laura Neary Smith

One of these days you should really watch the Mad Max trilogy. I think it goes 1) Mad Max, 2) The Road Warrior, and 3) Beyond Thunderdome.

Laura Neary Smith

So glad you liked Predator. I can’t afford to be too tier but, please got onto predator 2 and Alien v Predator. 💛😊

Gemma Clement

The 80s was a picnic basket of macho, testosterone driven steroid action flicks!! Conan The Barbarian, Rocky, Rambo, Robo Cop, Escape From New York, Bloodsport... So many to recommend!

Ullatec

Great reaction...I agree this movie is pure action/sci-fi Nirvana with nary a dull moment...can't wait to do a watch along when I get home from work tomorrow morning....Cheers! :)

Paul Johnson

If you think to watch Arnold again... May I suggest "The Terminator" with Linda Hamilton from 1984, a sci-fi action film from a few years earlier than "Predator"...

James Falato

To do list for Arnold Schwarzenegger Movies: Commando '85 Terminator '84 Terminator 2 '91 (even better then the first one) Total Recall '90 True Lies '94

This is not my kind of movie at all, but as always, your review was so much fun to watch!! Fun fact: My brother had a dog named Ripley (named from Alien) who he trained to make a low growling noise on command with the word "predator." She was a great dog.

Lynnetta

Hey Ash, you could safely say, it’s like a wasp and crab PROCREATED and made a scorpion. 😉😂😂😂 With all do respect, this was a brilliant review, and now Arnold is officially or unofficially on the list of future ex husbands.

Gio Vidrio

Anyone remember Which predator movie gives u more backstory on the predator?

Elisa H.

"Ain't got time to bleed" guy is Jesse Ventura, former pro wrestler and former governor of Minnesota.

Alexander Fish

Besides Star Wars, both Alien and the Predator franschise is my all time favourites. Predator 2 has got some banter through the years, but I think it is a good fun and action packed movie. The third predator, Predators(2010)is also a good thrilling movie. Since I like both franchises AVP and AVP2 is like christmas. If you liked this I think you will also like the sequels and spin offs.

Daniel Örtoft

she was going to pot this last friday but then called an audible with olimpia dukakis passing away and she did moonstruck

ingibingi2000

And, of course, Terminator and Terminator 2, although I'm sure these will make the "too many reactions to the same movies" crowd sigh.

Tyler Foster

If you liked Predator you should watch Commando

christopher brown

Also, Predator 2 is a fun, and refreshingly different sequel. The other two after that are diminishing returns, but I definitely recommend the first one.

Tyler Foster

A couple of fun facts: the guy telling the "big pussy" jokes, Shane Black, is primarily a writer. He wrote Lethal Weapon and co-wrote Lethal Weapon 2, and both wrote and directed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Iron Man 3. I also highly recommend a movie he wrote called The Long Kiss Goodnight, with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson (SLJ says it's his favorite of his own movies). Predator was directed by John McTiernan, whose next film the year after was Die Hard. His run of absolute action-thriller classics is completed by 1990's The Hunt For Red October, which I think you'll probably also love (and be stuh-ressed! by).

Tyler Foster

The girl got away because she was unarmed and no challenge for the Predator to hunt. Carl Weathers best movie is Rocky, which I am sure will make it on your radar sooner or later. The Alien vs Predator movies are just ok. Arnold movies are pretty fun, I think you would enjoy True Lies.

Tim Gilbert

Your reactions are so fun to watch. I remember watching this with my dad when I was very young (maybe 10). I replayed the movie with my nerf guns in the backyard with my sister.

Great review. FYI - At the end of the video, you say Monday is the Jerk, which you posted last Monday.
