EARLY ACCESS: Kung Fu hustle

Comments

I couldn't get into this video. These, imo, oddball movies I have never seen nor heard of don't pull me in as much.

ITPalg

Oh yes it's silly and romantic and whatever but if you can stomach that kung fu movie you can stand movies like The Promise,Same Time Next Year etc..

Rachel Adams

Could you be more specific? IMDB lists more than twenty movies titled "The Promise," and that's not counting TV movies and shorts. Maybe post a link to the IMDB page.

Elliot Nesterman

The Promise, trust me.Its a old movie and not even sure it's on DVD but it's worth watching believe me.

Rachel Adams

I don't think anyone has yet recommended Richard Lester's brilliant two-movie adaptation "The Three Musketeers"(1973) and "The Four Musketeers"(1974). Probably the best filiming of the novel; certainly the best in English.

Elliot Nesterman

Wow...these posts. So much bickering and arguing over movies. I thought movies were supposed to be entertaining and fun. Way too much angst on here for my blood. I'm just gonna post recommendations and vote in the polls. Won't waste my time reading any more of this stuff. Argue on dudes.

Matt Dellarosa

(...Will you STOP that? Sheesh!!)

Eric Janssen

Well if she's gonna watch moonstruck then she'll have to watch Mask also.

Matt Dellarosa

I LOVE Moonstruck too

AmyGENX

Last Dragon AND Breakin 2 Electric Boogaloo (she’ll love it)

Fatty Boombatty

For god’s sake someone let this WOMAN watch Moonstruck 🤧

Fatty Boombatty

I can’t believe this was recommended over THE LAST DRAGON (1985). Anyway, so happy to hear you’re going to watch Shawshank Redemption! One of the greatest movies ever made EVER!!!!!!!

AmyGENX

Did anyone tell her this is one of Bill Murray’s favorite movies?

cainnum

Definitely Fargo and NCFOM...Not a fan of Brother or George "I grin and bob my head after every other line...it's ACTING!" Clooney though...Blood Simple is a great early film from the Coen bros

Paul Johnson

Ashleigh had a good time with Raising Arizona, so I think more Coen Brothers movies are a good bet. Fargo O, Brother, Where Art Thou No Country for Old Men

Elliot Nesterman

Definitely, Field of Dreams

Paul Kay

I would like to request Field of Dreams. I have suggested it several times in the past so I hope it gets reacted to st some point. I know you have alot of movies being suggested, just hope that one is on the list somewhere.

Matt Dellarosa

These kind of movies I’m just not in to. But just a personal opinion.

Dawn

Don't forget "Throne of Blood," one of the best adaptations of the Scottish play.

Elliot Nesterman

Kung fu movies always left me a little cold because the characters lack depth. Sumurai movies on the other hand, particularly those directed by Akira Kurosawa, are great! The Seven Samurai, Roshomon, Ran, Yojimbo (the western movie A Fist Full Of Dollars is based on Yojimbo), Sanjuro, The Hidden Fortress - all great!

Michael Buhl

The Green Mile for sure

TheNeonRabbit

I love + own this movie! I can't wait to watch your review later! 🙌🙌🙌

Karen S

I think having just a passing familiarity with the Star Trek/Trekkers phenomenon is all you need to totally enjoy Galaxy Quest

Paul Johnson

So, Shawshank is next. I foresee a favorable review from her on this and would certainly recommend The Green Mile next!

Ullatec

That was me her hubbens btw

ChickensAreRacist

Starting now! The both of us

ChickensAreRacist

This feels random because it's not western humor. And while this is a fun movie, i prefer its predecessor, Shaolin Soccer.

Opti_Frog

You have to learn to skip certain posters or read them all and then smack your head into a brick wall. That is what I do.😉

Mark Sylvester

I love your reaction! You found the words I could not about this movie. Hahaha!

Jill Peterson

Do all Patreon channels turn into this? Where a half dozen people seem to think they own it and should be calling all the shots?

Kenton Kruger

It’s tough to recreate the exact feeling you had from a movie (in someone else’s perspective). If Ashleigh watched a bunch of Kung Fu movies before Kung Fu Hustle; her channel would turn into a Kung fu marathon— which is not what she planned to do at all. I would like her to see Galaxy Quest... but does she need to see a few episodes of Original Star Trek show in order to really get it??? Has she ever watched Home Improvement with Tim Allen? Those shows are almost completely opposite. A person who has read Lord of the Rings is going to get a really different end result after seeing the movie. It all depends on past experiences and personal preference.

Fatty Boombatty

Ashleigh would've enjoyed this movie if she had watched some classic Kung Fu movies from the 70's .Kung Fu Hustle is a homage to those movies. Would've recommended a few more Jackie Chan movies like the Police Story Series, Operation Condor and Operation Condor 2 etc just to let her get used to Hong Kong movies and Asian movies in general.

Neeraj Krishnan

Exactly. I don't expect her to like every suggestion, but the reactions are still entertaining and she is finding some new genre movies to be surprisingly enjoyable. There will always be some misses, that's to be expected.

Thomas Yanez

Woman Avenger is one of my classic favorites as is (of course) 36th Chamber of Shaolin... both are loaded with training montages. Chinese Super Ninjas has been a favorite of mine since I was a kid. I discovered a VHS called Lone Ninja Warrior which I found out later was called Blade of Doom! It’s a weird one, but very entertaining! I keep watching lots of classic Kung fu looking for better ones and really can’t... But I’m not asking this channel become a martial arts festival! Ashleigh was confused by Big Trouble in Little China, and that one had Kurt Russell in it! James Hong was great. It had Carter Wong in it— a huge star in his day (and place). The only confusion in the movie is: where did all that Chinese black magic & monsters come from? Who are the 3 Storms? That’s about it... you can either dwell on those questions OR JUST ROLL WITH IT! that kind of defines which type of movie watcher you are. So simply just from that, we should not try to confuse Ashleigh anymore. Like Kung Fu Hustle clearly did...

Fatty Boombatty

Yes I was meh on this movie as well when it comes to Kung Fu flicks I prefer classic 70's stuff like The One Armed Boxer and Master of the Flying Guillotine which weren't so much comedy as they were utter batsh*t insanity....

Paul Johnson

I got a feeling 50 First Dates wouldn’t not have existed had it not been for The Wedding Singer being a hit. Ashleigh should have seen that one instead.

Fatty Boombatty

I’m just saying it helps to make educated guesses on what Ashleigh would like to watch... she didn’t care for 50 First Dates or Something About Mary, remember? Those weren’t the kind of Valentine movies she had in mind for February because they stink! Do you want her to watch more stinkers? I don’t.

Fatty Boombatty

Kung Fu Hustle is basically martial arts meets Looney Tunes. It's supposed to be ridiculous. I think this movie is hilarious, but it's not everyone's jam...which is totally fine. Ashleigh isn't going to be crazy about EVERY movie she reacts to guys... The point is to get her genuine reaction... 🤷‍♀️

Jill Bristol

Oh yeah, it helps a lot if the movie has one of Ashleigh’s “future ex-husbands” in it. If you follow her videos, you know who they are!

Fatty Boombatty

Many YouTubers have been marathon watching the MCU for the soul purpose of reacting to Wandavison before, and now “Falcon & Winter” as they come out every week. Nothing against Millennial Movies Channel, it just wasn’t set up for this

Fatty Boombatty

Some dude suggested Ashleigh watch the entire MCU (basically for Wandavision). That’s a really tall order with 20+ movies and additional miniseries coming out all the time. So far I’ve only seen her react to Iron Man! At this rate, she’ll be mostly caught up in A YEAR! I do like the MCU— I think it’s a remarkable achievement... however, it takes a lot of time and focus. Ashleigh, maybe start another new channel?

Fatty Boombatty

When people suggested Kung Fu Hustle in response to Airplane! They should have been saying: Top Secret! with Val Kilmer. Did you notice Ashleigh’s response and final thoughts just now? So now you’re recommending Shaolin Soccer??? Come on, man...

Fatty Boombatty

You guys tried it. That’s all I can say. Clearly it’s not up for debate and shouldn’t be something to argue about in any of these threads that are bound to happen, but Ashleigh said what she said. I too agree, I wasn’t mad at it, but I wasn’t impressed by it either.

Gio Vidrio

HOW TO RECOMMEND MOVIES FOR ASHLEIGH: step one— think about the kind of movies she likes already (don’t just think about yourself). For example, I think she would love movies like My Girl with JLC and Macullay Culkin, A League of Their Own with Tom Hanks and Gina Davis, OVERBOARD with Kurt Russel and Goldie Hawn!!! Comedies seem to have most successful reactions. Step Two— ask yourself, what about movies like Kung Fu Hustle do you think she would enjoy??? (answer- not as much as you thought).

Fatty Boombatty

Ashleigh, you should definitely watch more of Steven Chow’s films. In response to the myriad of “WHY?!?!?”s, I think of Kung Fu Hustle as being a live action version of a loony toons reel. There ISN’T really a why most of the time. Just goofy for the sake of goofy....I also personally prefer subs to dubs when it comes to live action films because the actor’s real voice IS part of the performance. I definitely would recommend the directors cut of Shaolin Soccer.

David Bennett

I read your earlier post and found nothing wrong with it. It disappeared on my page too. This has happened to messages I put up in the past. For some reason they disappear and I don't know why.

Bill Bevins

Wow, did my whole comment get deleted? Sometimes I can't tell if Patreon is eating my comments or they're getting moderated out for reasons I do not understand. The part that I thought was important was that dubbing is often not overseen by the original filmmakers and thus introduces all sorts of changes that were not part of their original vision: the timing, tone, and emotional beats of the performances, and even outright changes to the dialogue, which is often altered to fit the movement of actors' mouths. For that reason I recommend watching foreign films with subtitles and the original language in the future. I can't imagine there was anything worthy of deletion in that sentiment (I mean it to be helpful, not a criticism!), but if there is I apologize! (It would be nice if any moderation going on was done with an explanation...)

Tyler Foster

Having finally watched The Incredible Hulk, I definitely think it would be okay if she skipped The Incredible Hulk.

Tyler Foster

And the question from Ashleigh for the de'jour? "Why?....WHY?" (heheheheheheheh)

Carl Sage

They were smoking opium. I saw this movie when it first was out for rental because of the hype surrounding it andwas disappointed in it. I think this movie tried to do too many different things, serious mob movie, straight comedy, farce, martial arts film and supernatural thriller. It fell short in all of them. Looking forward to Shawshank Redemption, though.

Bill Bevins

Not smoking the Devil's Lettuce, he's smoking opium.

Jill Peterson

Youre watching Shawshank next? I hope you had those tissues ready.

Bleedingreen

Well, watching an abbreviated version instead of the full watch-along, and the fact that it was the dubbed version, both contribute to a less than stellar presentation of the movie. The "acting" in dubs is almost always awful compared the original actors. Also, this is why a number of people have been saying that she should have watched "Shaolin Soccer" instead since the story is a bit more linear and less dependent on familiarity with the culture-specific aspects of this movie, and serves as a great way to introduce the viewer to Chow's silly, high-fantasy movie-making style.

Thomas Yanez

I agree Rick!

Sassy monster

Robin Williams, I believe, is funnier than Mel Brooks. BIRDCAGE, GOOD MORNING VIETNAM are hilarious. A couple of others, not Williams, would be ANIMAL HOUSE from the 70s, and a newer flick MY COUSIN VINNY. After watching your reviews for a few months now, I think you'd love any of these.

Jon Krantz

I'm bummed that "the next marvel film" is a mystery, since that means she probably isn't just watching them in release order.

Thomas Yanez

Someone spent $100 on this? Some people have money to burn! Yes, we all have different taste and will not like everything but some of these... wow!

Rick Rodriguez (PicoMan Photography)

Highly depends on the movie (and the particular cover). For the MMMember picks, simple enough to say the person that chose the movie should be be able to request yay or nay on looking at it.

Kenton Kruger

I don't know about other people, but I thoroughly enjoy her looking at the covers (despite possible spoilers) and trying to guess what a movie might be about.

Thomas Yanez

I'd like to suggest the great film, "The God of Cookery".
