EARLY ACCESS: Robin Hood Men in Tights

Comments

Yes, please watch Robin Hood Prince of thieves. The extended version. It’s worth it for Alan Rickman who was Hans Gruber in Die Hard.

Brandie Woodward

I wonder if she's seen the Disney Robin Hood one (the animals one)

Nicholas & Heather

If you want to watch another Robin Hood movie, you have to watch Robin Hood, Prince of Thieves with Kevin Costner! It's actually the movie that Men in Tights was based on.

Margaret Marron

With summer coming a comedy to consider with John Candy is The Great Outdoors.

Beth O'Brien

Airplane part 2 next please Ashleigh!😁

Rachel Adams

Mel already did a (funnier? YMMV) version of Robin Hood in producing the short-lived 70's TV sitcom "When Things Were Rotten", back in his Blazing Saddles heyday. It's definitely got the old-skool Mel taste for corny jokes, and was trying to play on Mel's previous TV success with "Get Smart". And since Patreon won't let me post YT links, you'll just have to search it out yourself.

Eric Janssen

Yes, hello, goodbye, Bill.

Eric Janssen

Will you review my request films if you have forgotten them here are five of them #1 D.A.R.Y.L.1985 #2 the warrior's 1979 #3 the worst witch 1986 #4 baby:secret of the lost legend 1985 and #5 spacehunter in the forbidden zone yes hello goodbye bill

Or, no. Please don't.

Thomas Yanez

I see it as "I am taking this opportunity to acknowledge that I have observed the joke and ascertained that it has value, but am not actually feeling inspired to laugh or otherwise react as if I have experienced something funny." So, yeah.

Thomas Yanez

And Marty Feldman and Dom DeLuise. Doesn't parody any movie style in particular, except for, as the title says, silent-movie gags.

Eric Janssen

And after they dry, you’d have to watch a LOT of them. (Psycho, The Birds and North by Northwest, for a start.). Not recommended quite yet, but The Producers (the 60’s Gene Wilder version) is a non-movie spoof of Broadway in general, and can be watched cold.

Eric Janssen

Sounds like a challenge

Fatty Boombatty

There’s Mel Brooks BEFORE History of the World Pt. 1 (Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, The Producers), and there’s Mel Brooks AFTER (Spaceballs, Men in Tights, Dracula: Dead & Loving It). You can see the change in comic timing, and the age line between who grew up with which and never saw the other. 😔

Eric Janssen

A Quentin Tarantino month would be awesome but I’m not sure if she’s ready for his type of film making.

Jason Nunez

"Office Space" would be a great one to do. Just sayin'

TheNeonRabbit

Every time somebody says "That's so funny!", but doesn't laugh, you can tell that it isn't funny at all... :)

Manuel Johnen

I could flow with Cannonball Run as an enjoyable "who needs a plot?" adventure romp. I'm told that Dom DeLuise was absolutely notorious on set both for getting and instigating "the giggles". The man's complete inability to maintain a straight face was infectious.

T.J. Gengler

Plus the beating of Dave Chappelle was Rodney King.

Kristen North

Mel and Anne were great together in TO BE OR NOT TO BE. Another good Anne Bancroft film is Garbo Talks!

David Patterson

Not for reaction, but you should take the time to watch the Carl Reiner episode of Jerry Seinfeld's "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee" on Netflix. When he was alive, Carl Reiner would have dinner every night with Mel Brooks, and Jerry is invited to that dinner.

Neil Brass

Look for Mel Brooks' SILENT MOVIE! It stars Mel Brooks as "Mel Funn!"

Steven

Now you have to see Dracula Dead and Loving it 😀

Alyssa Anderson

Technically he isn't the only Robin Hood who speaks with an English accent, the Disney animated Robin Hood was voiced by an English actor.

HercEl

Squoze was a short lived powdered lemonade mix from the 70s

Paul Johnson

You said Squoze.

ChickensAreRacist

You should watch The Graduate, so you can meet Mel Brooks’s gorgeous wife, Anne Bancroft.

Kate Cassidy

The "walk this way" joke goes goes back to the days of vaudeville. I vaguely remember an interview with Mel Brooks, where I believe he said the first film version was in a detective movie back in the 30's. I do love that Brooks references his own movies, though. I still laughed out loud at "A black sheriff!?"

Thomas Yanez

Maybe just keep one big poll with all the titles she has interest in going all the time, and when it comes time to pick a movie, she takes whatever is on top, removes it, maybe adds some more, and the poll just continues to be chewed on by her fans.

Thomas Yanez

Ashleigh, you played yourself! Lmao! Your ranking from Young Frankenstein: “If I had to rank them! Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, History of The World, & Spaceballs.” Now you got Frankie in last place. I get it though. They’re pretty hilarious in their own right. Also, the “walk this way” was paying tribute to Young Frankenstein when Eyegor told Frederick to WALK THIS WAY down the stairs with the cane. Glad you enjoyed this one. I’m pretty sure they were poking fun at Kevin Costner & Alan Rickman in Robin Hood Prince of Thieves which was 2 years prior, and people weren’t impressed with Kevin’s lack of British accent. 😂 Much Love!

Gio Vidrio

Watch not wash lol

Dylan

Your going to love high Anxiety but you’re gonna have to wash more Alfred Hitchcock movies to get those references

Dylan

Great review once again love it. I saw an old Reba video the other day. You totally resemble young Reba

Mike Johnson

I'm so old I remember the "Burns and Schrieber Comedy Hour"! I also remember Schrieber appearing in a series of funny commercials for Doritos in the 70's and 80s

Paul Johnson

thought you might enjoy this for your self https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oChBT5B3Ulg

Ken - Kendo161

Have you seen this one Ashleigh? Another good one to add to the list, The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother. GeneWilder is all I'll say.

Ken - Kendo161

The man with the magnificent mustache who was repossessing Loxely Castle was the late, great Avery Schreiber, a comedic giant from the 60's and 70's. Look him up and check him out

David Patterson

He was also the dance director in Blazing Saddles and Pizza the Hut in Spaceballs.

Bill Bevins

I would say dump the polls altogether. After seeing how many DVDs Ashleigh received and all the requests, she has a pretty good selection of movies to choose from. Maybe just do one poll a month.

Bill Bevins

Mel Brooks' movies are always amazing and RH:MIT does not disappoint. Dom DeLuise was Caesar in History and has been in numerous movies. Great comedic actor. Love watching your videos. Maybe murder mystery month or featured director month for upcoming runs? Just thinking out-loud. Not to mention, beans at the end. She is such a diva! Great work as always!

MrBamaRed

You need to do more “I am tired of waiting for this to win a poll so l pulled an executive order more often!” I am all for a surprise movie every now and then from a movie that is not winning. Stir that pot, Ashleigh!

That movie is very underrated as is The Frisco Kid.

Bill Bevins

Cannonball Run 1981 is a funny race movie with Dom DeLuise, and Burt Reynolds, plus it’s the first film appearance of Jacky Chan

Jason Nunez

So many of the references were from the recent time period in which the movie was made. At the archery contest, the crowd was doing the Tomahawk Chop recently made famous by the Atlanta Braves. They also did the "woof woof" hand gesture from the Arsenio Hall Show. The young boy towards the beginning who yelled at the camera and held his hands on his face was imitating Kevin in Home Alone. Dave Chappelle pumped up his Reebok Pump sneakers, which were popular in the early 90s.

Thomas Ivie

I believe that The Producers is easily the funniest Mel Brooks movie. You will really enjoy it.

Marcus

My favorite Dom DeLuise character is the opera singer in “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother” from Gene Wilder. To me that movie is every bit as great as “Young Frankenstein”. I don’t know why one disappeared and the other became a comedy classic.

Ian Jones

THE PRODUCERS is hilarious, hope you like it! My favorite is BLAZING SADDLES too, and I was lucky to see it at Radio City Music Hall with Mel Brooks in attendance for Q&A. Got tickets for August 31, 2016 a month in advance; three days before the show, Gene Wilder passed. The moment when we first see him hanging drunk from the cell upper bunk, deafening applause and Brooks himself was getting tears, I think. The funniest moment during the Q&A was when he was asked "Boxers or Briefs?" and Brooks just said, "Depends."

Stone Gasman

Wow, that's cool you will watch The Godfather. Hope you don't think it's too long:)

Birdie Num Num

Ladies and Gentlemen......SIR Patrick Stewart.

Alexander Fish

Also I 1st saw the "walk this way" gag in a Three Stooges short! :)

Paul Johnson

Robin Hood is one of my favorite characters. The best of the non-comedy versions is the original (I don't think there were earlier ones) "The Adventures of Robin Hood" with Errol Flynn (1938). There are references to that movie in this one. Flynn was born and raised in Tasmania, so he didn't have an English accent, but he had one that made him pretty dashing to Americans. And he made some great pirate movies too! Kevin Costner made a Robin Hood movie and didn't even try for an English accent. I'm glad you watched this one, it was one of my suggestions so I'll take the credit. But since you like Mel Brooks, I was sure you'd like it. I'm going to suggest some Jackie Chan movies. If for nothing else, they are fantastic because Jackie does his own stunts and they usually have outtakes at the end of stunts that didn't go as planned. And finally, "Beverly Hills Cop". Funny, adventure, great actors and characters.

Mark Lee

Men in Tights was a spoof on Robin Hood Prince of Thieves starring/ not star KEVIN COSTNER! 🙄 with no British accent... how did that get made? Nowadays you got many Brit actors playing Yank and vice versa— the accent game is on point!

Fatty Boombatty

Great reaction....I liked this movie better than "Spaceballs" and "Dracula: Dead and Loving It"(which also starred Amy Yasbeck who played Marian I think she reminded Mel of the late Madeline Kahn) but rank it below " Blazing Saddles", "Young Frankenstein", "High Anxiety"(from 1977 which is Mel's spoof of Hitchcock films and extremely funny), and "History"...also I once rode a camel when I was a kid (only because I was too chickensh*t to ride an elephant lol)

Paul Johnson

I didn't think it was that bad!

Ashleigh Burton

Since it's not on the polls I'm guessing it's a MM Member request.

Kenton Kruger

Kung Fu Hustle? Come on! I’ve seen 2 reactions for that just last week... everyone is reacting to the same, SAME stuff 🥵🥵🥵 you want to be different? Stripes & Bowfinger please 🥸

Fatty Boombatty

Oh no! You issued an executive order! I hope you don't regret it. This is the part of Mel's career where he descends into crappy films.

Graham Martin

I got that in my PO Box! Maybe I should soon!

Ashleigh Burton

You should watch The Producers (the original) and it stars Gene Wilder

Eric

😂😂😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

YOU THE BEST

Ashleigh Burton

A 7 "Stop" Movie

David Harrison

Your reactions were priceless!! Hilarious! I’m rewatching it ASAP!

Jerrod Acree

AWE!! Thank you! ❤️

Ashleigh Burton

I just got the producers in my PO Box!! maybe I'll get it to a poll soon!!

Ashleigh Burton

Can't wait to watch you watch this one! I know I can watch today, but like saving them until Monday to watch during my lunch hour.

Reba Pieczynski

Yay! I can do the watch along. I have this one on DVD so I will do the watch along later. Other Mel Brooks movies you still have to check out are The Producers, High Anxiety, Silent Movie and To Be Or Not To Be. Do NOT waste your time on Life Stinks. Trying to make a comedy about homelessness and mental health issues was destined for failure because it's hard to find humor in the subject matter.

Bill Bevins

Let me know if you agree with my ranking at the end of all the Mel Brooks Films!

Ashleigh Burton

It was SOOO much fun to watch and then edit

Ashleigh Burton

I HOPE YOU LOVE IT

Ashleigh Burton

Not my favorite Mel Brooks film by a long shot, but I'm sure your reaction will be fun to watch

Mark Finley

I'm very excited!! 😁

Lynnetta

OMG YES!!!
