EARLY ACCESS: What About Bob?

Comments

And as Orson Welles in "Ed Wood"!

Paul Johnson

You're really dating me on that one. I haven't seen that movie in years. Definitely don't remember that scene. I'll have to watch it again soon.

Matt Dellarosa

And as Dawson (the Thor-appearing tire guy) in Adventures in Babysitting...

Edward Olson

Cool, huh? Compare and contrast with the bug in "Men in Black" :)

Thomas Yanez

I have been waiting for somebody to mention Wes Anderson. I would LOVE to see her reactions to any of those, but espeically "The Life Aquatic"... but I already feel, in my heart of hearts, that she will hate them.

Thomas Yanez

There may be some validity to this, but both options are dependent on familiarity with the source material...

Thomas Yanez

I completely forgot about The Razor's Edge.

Michael Buhl

Just feel like the phrasing here is odd: The Razor's Edge was Murray passion project, and he did Ghostbusters on the condition that Columbia would fund The Razor's Edge. When the former made him into a megastar and the latter bombed, he moved to France for a couple of years.

Tyler Foster

Also, I only just realized that Vincent D'onofrio played Gomer Pile in Full Metal Jacket.

Matt Dellarosa

That's true about Bill Murray and Wes Anderson movies. Rushmore was the first semi-serious role I saw him in, then The Royal Tennenbaums. However he was in Mad Dog and Glory which is a massively underrated movie starring him and Robert Deniro.

Matt Dellarosa

True story...I saw this when it first came out many years ago. It was only recently that it clicked and I realized that Dr. Marvin's daughter Anna is also Detective Eames from Law and Order Criminal Intent.

Matt Dellarosa

Someone send Ashley a copy of baby steps

Brett Delbridge

He did one drama, "The Razor's Edge", where he plays a character wondering about the meaning of his existence, in '84--and had to be convinced to do Ghostbusters as a concession to do it--and seems like he's been either TOO ironic about his comedy ever since, trying to get "meaning" in his comedies (like Scrooged), doing paycheck work like "Larger Than Life", or doing forlorn quirky Wes Anderson indies. (And then there was that weird Andy Kaufman-ish thing in the 90's, when he wanted to play in the NBA, when he made that Space Jam cameo...)

Eric Janssen

I don't think Bill Murray got away from straight up sarcastic asshole characters and started playing more forlorn characters until he started acting in Wes Anderson movies.

Michael Buhl

"Galaxy Quest" is great if you like Star Trek... and it's even better if you hate it... :)

Manuel Johnen

She also might want to avoid the Dutch 1983 movie "De Lift" or its 2001 US-remake "Down", although THOSE would be some reactions worth checking out, I reckon... :P

Manuel Johnen

Love Galaxy Quest

Paul Johnson

Nevertheless, Ashleigh might want to avoid "Damien: Omen 2" :)

Paul Johnson

With a strong dose of "What people who have never watched anime in their life thought Tokyo was like since the late 80's".

Eric Janssen

I actually like to call it "Bill Murray does nothing... in Japan"...

Manuel Johnen

"Lost in Translation" has been suggested, and it is a definite yes for Bill Murray fans. It's not the first film in which Murray was cast in a more serious role, but it is one of his best.

Elliot Nesterman

May has Memorial Day, so a war movie would be good that week.

Elliot Nesterman

Galaxy Quest is hysterical. Of course, it helps if you have gone to a Star Trek convention or two.

Elliot Nesterman

Actually, I've read that stairs kill more people per year than elevators... ... ... just sayin'...

Manuel Johnen

Another thoroughly charming, early Dreyfuss film is "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz." (1974) It is set in Montreal and at hotel in the Canadian Borscht Belt, so I suspect it is better known North of the border.

Elliot Nesterman

I recommend Galaxy Quest. There's a couple of lackluster reviews out there, but I think your take on it would be hilarious. It's in the genre of sci-fi/comedy. Roughly similar to Space Balls.

Check out "Office Space"

TheNeonRabbit

Krippendorf’s Tribe might be another one worth watching. It stars Dreyfus.

Alyssa Anderson

“Who’s Neil Diamond?”...and with that statement, Ashleigh’s Patreons’ minds melted 😂. And did she say, “Tremors”???

I'd like to throw out Back to School and The Great Outdoors as classic comedies you'd love

Joseph Ricks

Yeah not really any themes come to mind for April or May other then Easter and spring, but I doubt there are that many movies that could fit that. Also wanted to throw this out there for possible summer themes, summer usually last three months so I was thinking maybe one month classic blockbuster movies, next movies about summer like classic beach movies and surfing movies, and last I think summer would be a good time for some action movies, the shoot'em up beaten up simple senseless violence kind of action movies.

HercEl

Never thought I'd hear you call Beans "Turkey Tit Dick Face" but here we are. XD

Nessa Arandur

Great review once again. It was Hilarious. After Stripes which is My favorite Bill Murray after Ghostbusters I'd recommend Meatballs.

Mike Johnson

If you needed a theme for April, you could do comedian movies and call it April Fools 😁

Bryan Foster

What a fun month this will be! I LOVE TREMORS!

Mo Vetta

Great post Ashleigh! Since Misery was your favorite, I HIGHLY recommend "Dolores Claiborne", another Stephen King based film starring Kathy Bates that blew me away.

Mo Vetta

The fact you gave us more Beans footage in this video gave it more points. The fact you called Bill & Richard your future ex husbands, where as I call Jennifer Lawrence & Margot Robbie my future ex wives! They could GET IT. This is why we’re fraternal twin siblings. Lmao! Great reaction as per usual, and can’t wait for Airplane.

Gio Vidrio

Me and the husband will have to watch tonight to brush up. It’s been a while.

melissa goff

sorry to be completely random here but I though this was interesting. as per Misery. https://www.facebook.com/horrorthatrocks/photos/a.197587610417148/1898444456998113/

stephen phillips

One of my all-time favorite movies. I went through a whole phase when I was about your age where I would just suddenly shout out, "I'm SAILING. I'm a SAILOR. With the wind?" Made for some weird encounters, but still such a funny scene.

Terri Vineyard

I've seen this movie so many times, it's a family favorite. Like you, I can't stand the "mmmm" dinner scene, but my Dad loves it, lol. A great movie, and I'm glad you liked it!

Jennifer

Great reaction....always liked this movie it was very funny and sweet and Julie Hagerty is great in whatever she's in especially "Airplane!"....when I was a kid my family would spend a week or two on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire every summer

Paul Johnson

My favorite Richard Dryfuss movie Is Mr Holland's Opus, you would love that movie.

Tim Gilbert

That was FUN! Makes me want to rent the movie so we can do the watch along. Great job!

Mark Finley

Essential Richard Dreyfuss ( that you haven't seen): American Graffiti, The Goodbye Girl, Whose Life is It Anyway?, Down and Out in Beverly Hills, Tin Men, Stakeout, Mr. Holland's Opus

Alexander Fish

Director Frank Oz is a longtime Muppeteer, performing Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, and Bert of Bert & Ernie. He also performed this little guy called Yoda in some obscure sci-fi franchise.

Alexander Fish

Where is the Discord?

Tyler Foster

After this movie came out, anytime my siblings and I were on a boat we'd yell, "I'm sailing!!!!"

Laura Neary Smith

Man, I would have to be stuck at church when you dropped this! I'll have to watch in a couple of hours. Wish I had the DVD, I'd love to do the watch along, might be worth the price of rental

Mark Finley

I’ve heard that psychiatrists kids are usually messed up because their parent can’t help but try their methods on them. Not sure if it’s true but it seems probable for at least some of them.

#BeansNation is live on Discord and is collecting all of these great suggestions.

Two Cents Magoo

I was surprised she didn't know him considering she worked in radio.

Bill Bevins

Saw this movie when it first came out. I forgot how funny it was. Ashleigh, you should check out some of Murray's SNL bits like the nerd Todd or longe singer Jerry Aldini.

Bill Bevins

There are 3 different types of people in this world... those that like Neil Diamond, those that don't and those that don't know who he is.

I have also never seen this before and now I too need to see the whole thing! The boy (actor Charlie Korsmo) was also in Hook the same year. Hook is a great movie with Robin Williams and I'll recommend that one for you as well. It brings back the joy of childhood. If you can't find it, just look for the second star on the right, and straight on till morning.

Mark Lee

Directed by Yoda/Miss Piggy himself, Frank Oz. Frank Oz also directed The Little Shop of Horrors (which, in my opinion, you SHOULD watch the Director's Cut, although I might be in the minority on that one).

Tyler Foster

It sounds soo made up though!

Ashleigh Burton

It's such a cute film!

Ashleigh Burton

That's lake winnipesaukee, I spend plenty of my summers there

ingibingi2000

Loved this film since I saw it in the cinema when it was first released.
