EARLY ACCESS: Misery

Comments

You should try Basic Instinct or Black Swan.

Juley

I mentioned them on your YouTube channel but I still think you should watch Fargo and Sling Blade.

Kevin Townsend

People who hate horror movies are suspect to me... :/

Manuel Johnen

One thing I'll say about Silence of the Lambs as a recommendation is that it' a great one for cultural literacy. It gets reffed SO often that it's useful to see just for that reason. I wasn't interested when it first came out, but everyone was talking about it, random magazine articles were referencing it, I had to give in and go. Hannibal Lecter was voted the second greatest villain of all time. It's just useful to know what everyone is talking about. And it does have some really good react moments. Not every great film does. That said, I don't watch any other reaction channels so I don't know how overplayed it is. Tropic Thunder? Really?

Kristen North

Because fans are herd animals. One goes that way, doesn't get mauled by wolves and the rest start stampeding right along. SILENCE is just such a safe bet for a reaction that it becomes nearly inevitable.

T.J. Gengler

Never seen this, never will. One of those movies where I can say, from the bits and pieces I’ve been shown, that it was brilliantly acted, brilliantly executed, masterful suspense, surprises. Little bit of humour. But I HATE horror and suspense, just watching the bits of it with you here made me anxious and want to puke. And after 30 years, I have still avoided (even though it is shown on every movie montage) ever looking at the screen during the hobbling scene. Just now, while you were watching, I used the time to put my dishes in the dishwasher. 😜

Heather Qualy

Okay, after Jeffrey last night, I have to ask how Silence got on the "Force-Feed" list titles that are ritually fan-rammed down the throat of EVERY Reactor on YouTube, along with Tropic Thunder and Hot Fuzz. Yes, it's good, but...

Eric Janssen

React to Silence of the Lambs.

Ooooh if you were actually wearing some high end stereo headphones and watched this...👀

Danika Silva

Can you do a reaction to the movie Field Of Dreams.

Keith Boyd

Have you heard what happens in the book instead? 😱

Keri Parmeter

Misery is a great movie. Another great Stephen King movie, once you're done with March Madness, is Stand By Me.

Keri Parmeter

Oooh, Fatal Attraction. Good one!

Arki Kali

Misery the Pig as Herself. The pig's real name was Misery!? LOL!!

Lynnetta

Dolores Claiborne, another Kathy Bates/Stephen King movie.

You must lead her to more Meathead! Maybe Stand By Me another Meathead and King combo!

Mark Sylvester

February 04 - "Ash is loving Meathead and she doesn't realize it yet!" I stand smugly by.

Two Cents Magoo

Hi Ashleigh and everyone else. 👋 Just finished the reaction and was racking my brain to try and think of other classic 80's/90's suspense thrillers in the Madness category and came up with my favorite from my youth. 👉Fatal Attraction & Pacific Heights.👈 Both have amazing lead actors who can do crazy/madness well. Just my two cents.

Kinard Montgomery

For more James Caan, need to watch The Godfather (at least the first 2, though he's mainly only in the first), both fantastic movies if you haven't yet.

Windfury

I cannot watch this movie, it creeps me out too much. But...Ashleigh what did I miss about Hallobeans? Wha happund? ☹😮🥺 *worried, so is Niklas Squishy Kitteh *

Shreakin Warrior

And Richard Farnsworth as the old sheriff hasn't had too many lead films (although "The Grey Fox" just came back out of limbo), but he did have a good turn in baseball movie "The Natural".

Eric Janssen

Ashleigh keeps saying see you in 48 hours on these, but it's 72 hours between the Thurs-Sun (or Fri-Mon) videos.

Kenton Kruger

King's book actually SHOWS us the entire manuscripts Caan was working on, and why Bates was so upset that Misery didn't get out of the cockadoodie car on his first draft.

Eric Janssen

Kathy Bates won Best Actress for this at the Oscars. She also plays Dolores Claiborne, which is another Stephen King adaptation. I haven't actually seen it so I can't recommend the movie or not, but I have been planning to check it out after I read the book.

Nessa Arandur

If you thought that hobbling was bad, you should read Misery the book haha.

"JESUS CHRIST. ON A CRACKER!" And you haven't even got to the sledgehammer scene. In the book, it's an axe. And it's worse.

Nessa Arandur

1) People have been recommending it since the start of her channel. 2) There are dozens of movies just as good. She'll get to it eventually.

Edward Olson

Hey, folks, can we start a campaign for Ashleigh to watch “Silence of the Lambs.” You know she’ll love it. She’ll love the 2 principal actors (names withheld).

Thomas Monk

Just thought Fried Green Tomatoes deserved a shout out since we're talking about really good work by Kathy Bates.

Tony Williams

This has always been a Christmas movie to me, as it takes place over the winter holidays and the first trailer for the movie that came out in theaters had the song "The Little Drummer Boy" as the music. Super creepy. You can find that trailer on YouTube.

Edward Olson

I still haven’t gotten over the sledgehammer scene and I first saw it like 28 years ago. I couldn’t even watch you watching it. 😫

Kate Cassidy

I was today years old when I realized that my husband had never seen this movie. There should be a meme of Kathy Bates' creepy ass (but #%^%*& amazing) face glowering with the caption, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOU'VE NEVER SEEN MISERY?!?"

Terri Vineyard

So, I just finished the watch-along. I have to admit, Ashleigh's sudden tip on body disposal (and the resultant flashback to "Deadwood") was a BIT creepy. But, in the best way. Wonderful movie and an equally wonderful reaction.

Thomas Yanez

"Kathy Bates 'crushed' it". Great double entendre! And if you are a fan of "The Big Bang Theory", Kathy Bates played Amy's mother.

Mark Lee

If that is how you feel, then I DON'T recommend reading the book. The movie is WAY toned down. She's a damn Disney Princess in the movie compared to how nuts she is in the book! Still, GREAT movie and one of the best adaptations of Stephen Kings work.

Terrel Geer

Wait a minute!!!! I didn't realized you picked this one at MY suggestion!!!! I am SO honored! Now I am even MORE excited to watch along when I get home from work tonight!!! Tbisnis one of my all-time FAVORITE movies! Plus, I am a massive Stephen King fan.

Terrel Geer

You may recognize James Caan from ELF. He's Buddy's dad.

Jill Peterson

Great reaction video. Have to think about the full length watch-along. I've only ever been able to sit through this movie once. What she does to him is too much for me to handle. I'm a wuss.

primatador

I love James Caan and Kathy Bates both. Caan also starred in one of my favorite (old) sci-fi movies, 1975's "Rollerball".

Thomas Yanez

Maybe thinking James Caan was Richard Dryfus? Great reaction and great choice T.J.!

MrBamaRed

This is the movie that made her career. I love this movie. Great review.

Edward Landis

Never seen that either!

Ashleigh Burton

but I've never seen Elf!

Ashleigh Burton

Ohhh I do love me some Kathy Bates!

Ashleigh Burton

😂😂😂

Ashleigh Burton

SHE DESERVED THE OSCAR!

Ashleigh Burton

true

Ashleigh Burton

I clearly wasn't ready

Ashleigh Burton

You probably saw James Caan in Elf

Joseph Ricks

Kathy Bates was also brilliant in Dolores Claiborne. Another King novel.

Mo Vetta

“JESUS CHRIST......ON A CRACKER!!!!” 😂

Now we need a reaction to A Few Good Men and This is Spinal Tap.

Alexander Fish

By Rob Reiner, the same director as When Harry Met Sally and The Princess Bride! Great reaction.

Tyler Foster

Kathy won the Oscar alongside Whoopi that year. Both well deserved. Her portrayal of Annie Wilkes was unbelievable, that people on set questioned whether she got TOO into the role when she was upset that they wrote the hobbling scene in instead of the axing of the foot which was written in the novel. Excellent reaction as always! Glad you loved it.

Gio Vidrio

Kiss Me Goodbye !!!!! One of my favorite movies. That’s on my list if I ever get to the request tier 😁

Christine

Essential James Caan: THE GODFATHER Rollerball Thief Brian's Song Kiss Me Goodbye Alien Nation

Alexander Fish

At least in the movie he gets to keep his feet.

Alexander Fish

I have this movie on my DVR. I'll be able to do the watch along but I'll have to do it later when I can watch the whole thing uninterrupted. I'd like to see Ashleigh do more Steven King movies. The Stand (1994), The Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me are all good non-horror movies.

Bill Bevins

"If I hear the cracking of bones....." Well, it's like this.....
