WATCH ALONG: Cuckoo's Nest!

Remember friends - ya gotta have your own copy to sync up with me! :)

WATCH ALONG: Cuckoo's Nest!

What a great watchalong! It's been way too long since I've seen this one. I did a 72 hour stay in a neurosciences ward in 1999, and it's always interesting to compare my experience with this account of the 1963 equivalent. I just wanna say that I'm really thrilled with all the films everyone has been suggesting/choosing, so much so that I don't dare add my own suggestion- there're already too many great ones on the list! Having a blast, hope everyone else is too!

Other "madness" movies I recommend are 12 Monkeys and Safety Not Guaranteed

Hello. I just joined your patreon today. I've been watching you for a while and really enjoy your videos. When I was in nursing school in my psychology class I had to watch and write a report on a movie called,"Girl Interrupted," It is based on a true story and stirred Winona Ryder and Angelina Jolie. It is an amazing movie and perfect for March madness. I think you would really enjoy it and I would love to see your reaction. Please put it in the polls!

Back in the 80's, we use to bet on when Jack Nicholson was going to throw a "shit fit" as we called it. Getting angry. I think he has one in every movie he made. If I remember right, he plays a different character type in "FIVE EASY PIECES" and "TERMS OF ENDEARMENT"

I position my copy of the movie over the top of the blurry box and just move it if I need to pause a sec to re-sync. Very useful blurry box, but I never see it unless I want to.

Ashleigh barely knows anyone from 30 years ago so that won't be any different.

You should also look into Network and The China Syndrome. And It's a Mad Mad World will have you laughing hysterically but you won't know any of the once world famous comedians in the movie because by the time you were born most of them had been dead for 10 or 20 years.

I understand what you mean by re-encoding, but this is definitely internet lag. All it takes is the occassional dreaded spinning cursor as video buffers to get things out of sync. It happens.

Wally Hartshorn

To re-sync, just note the difference in the start time, as I noted above. I don't want to see a blurry video on the screen. That would be distracting.

Edward Olson

Ashleigh, one way that I've seen other "watch along" reactors do things is they have a blurred version of the video playing onscreen, with the sound muted, throughout the entire reaction. Seeing the blurred version makes it easier to sync our copy. It also allows us to re-sync if needed partway through, since sometimes our copy plays at a slightly different speed, due to Internet lag, etc. And, of course, keeping the sound muted avoids the annoying "echo" of being out-of-sync by a fraction of a second. :-) Lastly, doing a countdown at the start (3, 2, 1, play) helps get things off to a good start!

Wally Hartshorn

Thank you!! I had to get up to wrangle animals a couple times during Clue and wanted to back up and it took forever to back them both up together and stay synced.

Amy Silknitter

Ashleigh's video is 2:33 ahead for syncing purposes. So whatever time it is in the movie, add 2 minutes and 33 seconds and go to that spot in Ashleigh's video.
