The lighter shading and anime stylizing of the new style adds some freshness, but I also really like the more prominent contouring and lighting in your classic style, especially when more exaggerated proportions are involved. Overall I think both can coexist, depending on the characters and composition you have in mind. Experimenting helps with growth, I think.
