As the legendary third doctor Jon Pertwee said : “Courage isn't just a matter of not being frightened, you know. It's being afraid and doing what you have to do anyway.”

Capaldi is so good and really excels in this episode, if anyone wasn't sure on him as the new Doctor before this you had to have been sold after this! If you like Peter in this kind of role there's a series on Amazon Prime called The Devils Hours with Peter as the lead, it's a very intense show and I highly recommend it, could even do it here! I love all the moving parts of this episode, that The Doctor asks Clara if she's had that dream but he refuses to say...because all this is driven by him having that same dream. How the past can effect your timeline as it does the Doctor and Danny/Clara. The fact that the thing on the bed ironically could have actually been the creature the Doctor was hunting for. And the call back that him being scared in the barn would come back one day when he's there as the War Doctor in the 50th anniversary. Love everything about this episode. Also any time someone says Listen to me in my head now I always say it in the way he does at the beginning of the episode lol

The thing about fear and companions is sort of a play on a line from the doctor in the first story back in 1963 (there' s 40 second clip on YouTube titled "Doctor Who - The Forest of Dead (Fear makes companions of all of us)." It's one of my favorite Hartnell moments. I really love the cyclical paradox of this episode, it's plays with time travel in such a weird and beautiful way. However, the hypothetical "creature" is actually semi-self-inspired by a short story Steven Moffat (who wrote this episode) had written years back called "Corner of the Eye." If you google it, you can find a summary on the Tardis wiki. It's DARK, perhaps too much so for the show and there very much is a being. Even though we know it was Clara who grabbed his ankle, whatever was under the blanket did look very weird. So maybe the hiding creatures aren't grabbing ankles but perhaps they're still there, just listening...
