2025-08-16 10:21:06 +0000 UTCGreat discussion. Another incredibly rewarding episode to rewatch when you are aware of all the moving pieces. Gaen's monologue here is written with just enough substance and information to make you question things and theorize, but is just vague enough to keep you unsure. Just to clear up one thing: The "King" of the town is used to describe an object of worship of the shrine. Nadeko was the "King" for a while, and that served in favor "keeping the balance" in the town. Oshino was able to keep the town regulated without the "King", by placing the talisman on the shrine. Gaen wants to actually enshrine a god there, thinking it will be a more robust solution. I like how the entire Koyomimonogatari is basically Araragi's life flashing before his eyes, which serves as a great "recap" of the entire timeline so far. Onto season 1 of Owari now, which has my favorite arcs in the series. Good luck!

2025-08-15 18:35:05 +0000 UTCRegarding Kagenui, it is not about “making her tell him, even if he fails”. Karen’s sense of tact (Karen? Tact? Bizarre notion, I know) offers insight and changes Araragi’s objective half way through. Kagenui plainly did not want to talk to Araragi about such a personal topic. By offering up a seemingly unbeatable winning condition, she denied his request without doing so flat out, thereby obfuscating her vulnerability around the subject matter (Kagenui? Vulnerability? Bizarre notion, I know). The whole situation makes sense, if read through the Japanese social concepts of honne (private mind) and tatemae (public mind). Araragi’s original objective was to pry a truth out of Kagenui, his new objective is to enable Kagenui to save face in front of him. Just as Kanbaru insinuates, Tsukihi might have done for Araragi during “Koyomi Tea”. Regarding the final episode, I had written out quite a bit but then I decided to join the information embargo. You have some good ideas, you arrived at some excellent ideas by mistake, you have some bad ideas, and you have come to hold ideas inconsistent by way of mutual exclusion. Once again a great candidate for a rewatch. You might want to take care not to accidentally enshrine any one interpretation as head canon without realizing it. Who does Gaen think she is? At the end of the day a defender of humanity against the predations of dangerous oddities, I presume. Contrary to her youthful attributes, she is a grown up that decided to step up to the responsibility her power implies. That entails to take on a consequentialist ethical outlook. Sometimes, the decisions of people in power look monstrous when viewed through the fake justice of a sentimental kid, running around with an extinction level threat in his shadow. In a way, Gaen is the establishment, I’d say. That’s why it’s easy to hate her. In both senses of the word “easy”. That being said: Fuck you, Gaen! PS: Kaiki wasn’t shot, but hit in the back of the head. The silhouette of the kid is holding what seems to be a short staff or an iron bar. PPS: There is no queen in shogi.

2025-08-15 13:48:25 +0000 UTCAhhhh there she isssss, the "new character". She was my discord pfp for like 2 years, honestly the most depressing character of the series for me. I hope this doesn't count as spoilers, since all the characters have depressing stories. Maybe two things that you might need to be reminded of/ make it clearer, is that hachikuji didn't get erased by the darkness, she just simply moved on. If she got erased then she's trully dead. And 2nd is that the king is the "god" of the city, which nadeko became momentaraily, and oshino just managed to keep things stable despite not being a god. Idk what her original goal was by entrusting it to him, maybe they explained it later, I forgot

2025-08-14 22:57:52 +0000 UTCSo Araragi losing his "protectors" means he is someone that cannot be kept in check so she decides to remove him as well? Ougi is causing chaos in the town and messing up Gaen's plans. She cuts him with the "original oddity slayer" if she is not evil she is probably trying to help him in some way with his vampiric powers. I don't think she intends to actually get rid of him. We meet a new character that we know nothing about, I don't understand why we saw Araragi's mum this episode. Also Episode was portrayed on the dark side, Gaen alluded that someone might be trying to get rid of him. HACHIKUJI greets our MC in the AFTERLIFE. So much is happening around Araragi it feels like they are pushing him to his limits. Ougi was even pointing out he matured in Tsukimonogatari, right now it all feels like one big mess, since obviously there is no balance keeper/king. I wonder if the endgame is Araragi becoming the king since he is forced into constant struggle and growth over and over again. I wonder how much of this is planned by Oshino. I don't know if he left so that Araragi stops relying on him and becomes more independent or did he just leave because he does not want to bother with the city anymore. In the end Araragi seemed like a pretty normal/chill guy in Hana so idk. SOO MUCH TO THINK ABOUTTT!!! Let me know if I understood things correctly.
