I would want to add, that it might not be as much nature that explains the proto-oddities in Koyomimonogatari, but human psychology as in (often flawed) perception and interpretation of circumstances in the world, be they natural, cultural, or of mixed origin. And while none of the phenomena we have encountert in these short vignettes were necessarily oddities proper, every single one of them at least had the potential to become an oddity in it's own right by collective belief in the supernatural filling in a percieved explanatory gap in our view of the world. Some vignettes illustrate character relationships , some give insight on events past, others foreshadow. But all deal with the nature of our perception, interpretation of, and hence beliefs about reality.

Something about reading these things in plain text is so much funnier than even just watching the show sometimes. "Araragi ascends Hanekawa's boobs and there finds truth." Like lmao this show is actually wild with it.

Excellent taste. Marshmallow justice is a personal favorite. Just 'good vibes' the opening.

Koyomimonogatari is one of the most fun seasons to rewatch if you're interested in learning about the mess that Araragi's mind is. Every episode can be tied back to his feelings and thoughts. There's a very compelling interpretation of what the tree is supposed to represent here, but I think we would go into subtle spoilers territory. So, all I'll say is I encourage you to rewatch this, often overlooked, arc after learning more about Araragi.

About noticing new things in the openings, in the first Nadeko OP you can see her working tirelessly on her manga. In her second OP, she stops completely. Turns out the answer to what was in the closed was there all along.

Koyomi Tree is where one of the main general points of Koyomimonogatari is put in the most straightforward way (because it's Karen), and that is further defining what an "oddity" is or isn't. The attention is put on the "natural", the sensory and cognitive biases of a "normal" human mind that come from evolutionary programming and can be more dangerous than oddities as Hanekawa posits in Koyomi Sand. Why is it specifically Koyomimonogatari? That might be a spoiler so I'll just say that it is because the eponymous character might not believe that these "normal" expressions should be safe from rational criticism. If in the future the series presents to you a character that has no oddity, that's when you will know Nisio has hit his mark. SASUGA

My abba taught me a few things too, like how to rip the skin off by using my own mouth

"No way we skipped an opening that would've been my favorite!" Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, I draw your attention to evidence exhibit A, "Nisemonogatari Episode 2 Reaction", can court please move to timestamps 2:50 and 3:15? Thank you, I rest my case. To the defendants: repent.

Yes Karen's OP is very old/shonen like (Naruto, Dragonball, One Piece, etc) cause It fits her Hero of justice, fiery and positive Shonen MC personality. Also the scene where Araragi climbing the Boobs is basically him climbing to conclusion/solution with Hanekawa helping him reach it (hence the boobs, represanting Hanekawa's assistance).

My take on the "darkness" point that Kaiki made is that, because trends spread easily amongst those who are living in bad circumstances, really big trends catching on implies that society as a whole is not in a good place. So one should be wary of what could be going wrong in the world to make way for trends to catch on. In Shinobu's backstory, the region was suffering from really bad droughts before she arrived. So when she arrived and brought rain, it was incredibly easy for the trend of believing she was a god to catch on. But in reality, the villagers were enveloped in darkness and fell for her "deception". Ultimately, blindly following the trends without resolving the root of that society's problems led to its collapse. The "darkness" entity was simply a literal representation of this collapse.
