I think one major reason Kaiki is so well received at this point - and also why Hanekawa tends to irk people (before she finds herself in Tsubasa Tiger) - is related to the "prescription," as you described it. Hanekawa essentially uses the prescription in the opposite way Kaiki does; she uses it to avoid being true to herself and becomes even more pretentious as a result, while Kaiki at his core is always true to himself and has no qualms about whatever prescriptions/methods he has to take in order to achieve this. His blatant honesty in his motivations, which we are now more privy too, is refreshing and charming despite being hidden among deception.

If she theoretically was Kiss-Shot again though, she definitely would win against Sengoku. Senjougahara told her as much at the end of Otori βif you kill Araragi first, Shinobu will eat you up, so you have to kill shinobu firstβ was her advice that she used prior to bargaining with her for the 6months. Also, would love to see you guys create a timeline. Can give you an answer key too if you want based solely on what youβve seen so far.

2025-07-10 22:55:02 +0000 UTCFor a lot of Kaiki's ethos I think back to the conversation about Hanekawa and self-righteousness. She does the right thing because its a prescription for goodness, not because she "is good". She doesn't acknowledge the danger of goodness. Araragi acknowledges the danger of acting good, but does it anyways. He's Mr. Good Guy, an ally of justice. I think back, too, to the conversation about Kagenui/Oshino/Kaiki on the nature of real vs fake. Kaiki says that the fake, having taken effort to be seen as real, is what makes it the most real. In a similar way, Kaiki sees the danger of acting good, and performs evil to keep himself and those important to him safe. In his view of fake/real, does not this arc and his deliberate attempt at goodness make him the most good guy of them all? :P Honestly though, idk how much those thoughts are directly connected plotwise, but certainly their underlying philosophy is as it relates to Kaiki's view of the world. He's such a complex but understandable character. At first you're like "fuck this guy and his deception." But once you know his angle, he's honestly incredibly transparent.
