Man the flashbacks are so good. Shinobu narrating her flashback like a podcast, so once in a while she'll comment on things that are happening in real time like araragi's questions and him being naked. They'd go back and forth since it's not a one-sided lore dump. Add that with the cool visuals, just *chef kiss*. Also man, there's a scene here that just feels rewarding af to recall once you reached the later arcs. Can't wait for you both to reach that arc, gotta copy the line and episode number in my memo so that I can copy paste it later lmao.

The only other person ever to call her that was the first kin, even Oshino called her "Heartunderblade"

2025-07-02 02:18:53 +0000 UTCI live in Wisconsin and we only very rarely get some weak Aurora, but even then its very cool. I didn't realize until I saw it that there's a 'center' point where it originates from and you can see the arcs go in different directions. Mine wasn't colorful so much as a pale shimmer, but still neat. Re: Shinobu being viewed as evil - What I think is interesting is that both of the most important women in Arararagi's (I flubbed it) life are kind of tsunderes. With Shinobu I think between this ep and Kizu its clear she kind of tells half-truths and often paints herself as more malicious and cruel than she really is. Its hard to keep up with subtitles going and all the reading and stuff, but she often does this wry half-smile as if mocking herself when telling stories. Its one of the reasons, again, that rewatching the show is so rewarding. Because at the end, having put the puzzle of her character together, we can better understand when she's being self-flagellating in her narration. The element of 'even god is lonely' is such a great, thousand mile out perspective on her character and why Araragi is valuable to her. And re: the people defending the kissing stuff. I get it, there's reasons. They even come together nicely to a point. But at the exact same time, its also just problematic and uncomfortable haha. I can memory-hole it, but its definitely caught between "Come onnn, please no. :(" and "oh, what neat narrative elements that reinforce character arcs!". This show is so conflicting sometimes lmao. Still worth tho.
