That said, we all did stupid stuff or had stupid thoughts when we were kids that we look back on and (hopefully) laugh about. Plus he knows it will get a reaction out of Kanbaru because of her overactive imagination when it comes to sexuality. Common trend among people that are secure in their sexuality is to make gay jokes, I feel like it's something like that. He can make jokes about it now because he is fully dedicated to Senjougahara and knows he doesn't mean it

2025-06-28 14:34:58 +0000 UTCLmao, is araragi seriously into incest. Best short answer is the meme "Well yes, but actually no". Monogatari Series loves to play around with anime tropes. And incest is one of them. I know that it got overshadowed by the toothbrush scene, but literally in that same episode, karen told him that she's willing to give him her virginity in exchange for him introducing her to kanbaru, and araragi just kicks her off saying "I don't want my little sisters virginity". Honestly.... I'm more scared about the sisters and how serious they are in regards to araragi lol. And I think these 2 lines pretty much sums up the arc. The part during her dreams with her mom where she said "What I should take away from this arc is that it's fun to run into people you knew a bunch of years ago" and araragi's line when he cuts her hair saying "What you're doing is neither right or wrong, you're just spending your youth". It feels like she really just met an old friend, had some deep talks about their insecurities about their future, and is both just moving forward in life (well the other one is moving upward towards the heavens)

Its kind of an uncomfortable thing to think earnestly about "what do I wish for". Imo that kind of behavior buys him time to think how to respond to an earnest conversation that deserves a 'thoughtful' response. But like you say, its *also* just a swirl of hormones to some extent. The other big example of this I think of is the Hanekawa stuff. Sure, on some level he wants to touch her boobs (lmao). Usually when he says it though, its a way to turn the conversation/his own thoughts somewhere else, because what's currently happening is uncomfortable. So there's two reasons for the characters. The third reason might be that NisioIsin just likes siscon stuff haha. I can't remember where I first heard it, but I think Nisemonogatari was never really intended to be a full work. That it was a fun, fan-servicey side project that was written mostly for his own tastes. And then it spiraled out from there as he continued to work on it. Nesa got toothbrush on the brain today lmao.
