Kanbaru is a pretty insecure character. She wavers a lot when it comes to her own desires and opinions. In Bake and Hana there was this theme about “running away” from your problems. In Bake, Kanbaru relies on the monkeys paw choosing the easy route instead of facing her intentions and desire, she knew gahara had an illness but once she was ruthlessly turned down by gahara, she lets it go by, let it bother her, then uses the paw. In Hana, Kanbaru sees Numachi Rouka who is obviously very self destructive and Kanbaru is bothered by it, but is very conflicted to act upon it since Numachi seems “happy” with collecting and taking the misfortune of others. She feels like she should do nothing and bottle it up practically making Kanbaru’s desires useless. That’s why her talk with Araragi is so important because Kanbaru was very reliant on others around her - Kaiki, Rouka, Gaen Toue even using Araragi and Senjo as support for her decisions when they were still here. Araragi basically supports her again by saying if you’re bothered by it, that’s enough to make you get out of your comfort zone and do something about it.

Hanadori Rouka has her name as 楼花, which is translated as flower tower or beautiful tower. I feel like there’s likely more meaning to this (like a Japanese proverb or saying or something I’m unaware of) that holds her up as this ideal representation to Numachi.. The devil collector Rouka (Numachi) is 蠟花 which is basically wax flower. The symbolic idea behind it is the flower is no longer alive but it’s continuing to hold its form. The whole story of Hanadori Rouka is implied to be her, they’re meant to be views as likely the same person. It’s as if Numachi created this idea of a girl that she wanted to help (wanting to help herself) out of her painful situation. Hanadori Roukas story involved struggles with her leg, struggles with family, and their names sort of mirror one another (both ending with 花 or flower) which also ties into the name of the arc, hanamonogatari 花物語
