My interpretation is this — what almost happens in this episode, and is interrupted by Shinobu, is most likely fabricated by Nadeko. The scenes where he's perving on his sisters while they're sleeping is also most likely not true. Nadeko would very much like to see him as someone who pervs on little sisters, since she considers herself his "little sister" in a way. I think the unreliable nature of this arc's narrator is more obvious in the light novel. Here's a quote from when Araragi brings the yukata to Nadeko: """ “Tsu, Tsu-Tsu-Tsukihi… You borrowed this from her,” i stammer, panicked. “S-So, in the end, you woke her…up?” “Hm? Oh, no. I just barged into her room without asking, fished through her drawers without asking, checked on Karen’s and Tsukihi’s sleeping faces up close without asking, and borrowed it without asking. I don’t think Tsukihi would mind.” I feel like there was a completely unnecessary step in there, but maybe it’s Nadeko’s imagination. She can’t tell. """ Nadeko herself comments on the fact that she might've imagined some of the things she's relaying to us. Araragi is absolutely innocent once again. I rest my case.

2025-06-16 11:21:40 +0000 UTCShinobu called out nadeko's behavior as a natural airhead, that she wasn't concious of doing it. But imo you could tell from her monologue that she knew full well what she is doing. She wasn't naturally cute, I mean she is born with that cute appearance yes, but she def puts an extra mile on putting the act as well. So imo it is similar to hanekawa's case, where they both try to be their idealized type of person. Hanekawa wants to be that perfect class rep trope character, while nadeko wants to be a dandere trope character. But the way they go at it is def different. Hanekawa did it subconciously, while nadeko did it conciously. After getting confronted about it, hanekawa chose to reflect on her life and question what kind of person she is, while after getting confronted by shinobu, nadeko chose to look away and be on edge about it.
