Monogatari Episode 10 Reaction (OP and ED)

A white serpent appears... Hanamonogatari after this episode as we got it confused.

That analogy with the burger was crazy, but i get what you mean :DDD

Great call on the opening giving out yandere vibes. That opening leading into the starting scene of sengoku killing araragi is *chef kiss*. Also I hope you continue watching this arc if you've already started it. I know that you did a poll and this was a little oopsie, but choosing to stop now and go back to hana would be a poor move, it's like eating your burger and then you stop and order chicken tenders and you finish them, then you go back to your cold sad burger. And look forward to this arc, or actually any arc with sengoku as the main focus. Imo, she's the character that got developed the most with a lot of different opinions regarding her. Like hanekawa, senjougahara, shinobu and kanbaru are already strongly established characters that almost everyone enjoyed. They're like A-tier characters that you can only upgrade to an S-tier. Meanwhile sengoku feels like a B or C-tier characters that jumped grades into an S-tier. Since she starts off lower than the rest, she got the BIGGEST room for improvement, and man it delivers. I think I glazed it too much mah bad

Just a quick reminder to keep the narrator's influence on the world and other characters in mind. Nadeko is the narrator in this one and, as you've noticed at the beginning of the episode, Araragi being okay with killing Nadeko is pretty bizarre and out of character for him. The guy we know would probably prefer to die for her. Whenever you get these "out of character" moments, don't take those scenes as absolute truth of what happened, and think about why the narrator would present them that way. Also now that we're "looking through Nadeko's eyes", we can see other people. She mentioned in Bake that she's very aware of how people perceive her. I really love the shots of eyes turning towards her when she enters the classroom. I'm glad you're enjoying Ougi! She pretty much steals any scene she's in :) Also, about the watch order, I would just finish this arc at this point. It would be a bit confusing and annoying to jump between arcs when you probably already started crafting theories about what happens in Otori, so both arcs would suffer if you jumped between them now.

Well, if you've already started with this arc, finish it, because I feel it will be worse if you now jump to another arc when you've already begun this one. And yes, Nadeko speaks about herself in third person. I don't know why the subtitles ignored that detail when it's something quite important for her character since she's been doing it since the beginning. In Japan, speaking in third person is something children usually do, so it's considered childish but cute at the same time. This speech pattern also creates a sense of detachment from one's words and actions, which is quite curious.

Agreed. I’d just go through Otori now. Hana at some point before Koi is really the debate. While I think it is better if Otori is closer to Koi, now that you’ve started I wouldn’t stop.

I haven't watched the reaction yet but since you already started Otori it would probably be better if you simply finish Otori and then watch Hana immediately afterwards. The important part is that you watch Hana before Koimonogatari (last arc of the 2nd season), as another comment has mentioned above.

Sorry guys but Araragi isn't currently accepting any applications towards his harem, maybe next year!

We already had this conversation before. There was a debate on the order and they did a poll. Hana before Otori won that poll. It's not a big deal that they watched this episode out of order accidentally, but it would be weird to just fully go against the poll result just because of one person's comment.

Here's the order you might need it. Nekomonogatari Shiro (Tsubasa Arc) (ep1-ep5)- Finished Kabukimonogatari (Hachikuji Arc) (ep6-rp9)- Finishied Otorimonogatari (Nadeko Arc) (ep10-ep13)- Watching Onimonogatari (ep14-ep17) Koimonogatari (ep18-ep23) Hana is after these arc. You are in the right order, don't worry. There are lots of time-skip in Monogatari series.

I have a feeling you're going to be wondering for awhile so I'll just warn you now: it will be a bit before you find out the full extent of how Araragi got to the point he was at during the end of Hanekawa's arc. Since you started this arc, you basically have two choices: start Hanamonogatari now and deal with another drastic time jump (I'll keep how far and when from you to prevent spoilers just in case), or go ahead and finish Otorimonogatari (4 episodes) and then watch Hanamonogatari. The important thing that matters to most people (what the vote ended up winning) is to watch Hana before Koimonogatari. Anyways thanks for the double episode regardless. I personally don't care which order you watch it in, I'm just glad you both are enjoying it!

The Monogatari arcs are not written in order of when they happen, but in the order that most suits a given theme or character progression. Tsubasa Tiger and Mayoi Jiangshi both happened in August around the first week of their senior year. There is an obvious gap in the story because we saw Araragi help Hanekawa save herself at the end of her arc, but Mayoi Jiangshi did not end with him returning to help. Nadeko Medusa takes place around Halloween, so while it seems like you skipped episodes, what actually happened is the author skipped telling that missing piece... for now. It will be even more evident with Hanamonogatari that the story is told in non-linear order. I would suggest noting down the times that each arc takes place to get a better idea of how the whole thing fits together.

I think my initial comment might have caused a little confusion where I said that the 2nd arc ends with episode 10, which is technically correct, but for the TV release which had one recap episode and blu-ray dosen't have, making it end on ep9. Anyway, now that you started Nadeko arc, I'm honestly not sure if you guys should go back to watch Hanamonogatari, the curiosity might be distracting. Eh, I will leave the decision to you.

I'm sure you'll get this comment a few times on this arc, but FUN FACT: The author of the series was interviewing the voice actors and asking what kind of characters they'd like to play. Kana Hanazawa, Sengoku's VA, usually does very cutesy voices. So she requested to "voice someone with a bad personality", and Nisio Isin wrote this arc specifically so she could be a baddie lmao.

Tony Wegner

Yes this is our mistake, we really wanted to go next episode as we though there was one more. Next time we'll continue with Hanamonogatari.

Vanesa Georgieva

I thought Hanamonogatari after 2nd arc had won the poll though?
