2025-06-07 21:33:27 +0000 UTCFunny that the Hachikuji arc also was also secretly an arc about Shinobu. I suppose that's why this book is called Kabukimonogatari. "Kabuki" is sometimes read as "katamuki" which can be used to refer to a tilt or deviation aka "twist." Therefore this arc could be translated to "Twistory." It's a story of twists, narratively and figuratively.

2025-06-07 20:49:44 +0000 UTCimo I think the 'answer' to Ononoki's question is that its whatever Hachikuji answers. I think the thrust of this arc is that Araragi tries to decide what the preferred world is (Hachikuji alive route) by himself, but what he should've just done is ask her. Same thing with Shinobu. If she just actually communicated her feelings, she wouldn't have destroyed the world. So to me that's the main point of this arc -- we can't just decide on our own how people feel, we actually have to do the uncomfortable thing and have difficult conversations.
