I like that this show is so weird that Shinobu of the Ceiling doesn't even get a second look anymore. In the beginning it would've been "Why is there a haughty child on our protagonist's bedroom ceiling? Why does she walk in 90 degree turns along the walls with magical sticking power?" No, these things are normal now. No normal person questions why a cat sits in the window sill. No Monogatari fan questions arrogant middle-of-the-night ceiling loli. It just is.

2025-05-25 14:18:22 +0000 UTCRegarding your talk about the consistency of the characters in this show, in Monogatari the narrative only exists to advance the characters, not the opposite. I personally really enjoy this approach because It's difficult for me to empathize with characters that are clearly written just to make decisions that will advance the plot in a specific way. In character-driven shows like Monogatari, every decision feels organic and natural and the characters themselves just feel real. Their journeys are satisfying to watch, and it's more impactful when you see them succeed or fail. It feels earned. A bit of an unstructured rant this time, but I hope you understood what I wanted to express. :)

After that there's still a lot of novels with the most recent adaptation of "MONOGATARI Series: OFF & MONSTER Season" (which was amazing btw)

Books are still coming out (most recent book was released in 2023 which teased a new season of novels) and also the anime just begun adapting more books again with a new season last year (Monogatari Series Off & Monster Season). There are still a lot of books left unadapted from Off and Monster season so we can probably expect more seasons coming... maybe in 2026? Since Shaft is busy with Madoka rn

2025-05-24 17:45:37 +0000 UTCThe main story of the Monogatari Series is pretty much finished in the anime, it comes to a satisfying conclusion. But the author has continued to release more novels in the world and with the characters so it technically isn't over and could continue for many more seasons if Shaft continues to adapt it. The "main story" finishes with Zoku Owarimonogatari which came out around 2019, but the most recent season, Monogatari: Off & Monster Season, which came 5 years later in 2024, deals with content beyond the so called "ending."

2025-05-24 17:37:13 +0000 UTCIt's interesting how we learn more about Araragi even when he's not present. His parents being police officers makes so much sense in hindsight. It also ties into the real vs fake conversation, where his parents are the real deal, and him and his sisters and just faking it and trying to be what their parents are. And we also get to understand a bit more about his and sisters' sense of justice.
