Monogatari Episode 1 Reaction

Meeting a mysterious white tiger. Watching the show through Hanekawa's pov is so so refreshing and interesting!

I think a large part of what makes this perspective so amazing and refreshing is how naturally it sheds clarity onto Hanekawa's character. Nesa mentioned how it feels so much healthier for Hanekawa to interact with Senjougahara compared to Araragi. The contrast between each pairing is striking; this will become even more evident as the arc continues. We know Hanekawa wanted more than anything to just be able to be a normal girl and the lengths she went to, of course failing completely, to try and manifest this wish into existence. Like a machine her whole life, Hanekawa tried to embody her idea of a normal girl. Since nothing about her life was ever normal, she is completely unaware of how above and beyond her efforts go. She truly thinks she is embodying "normal," despite it being so idealistic/angelic. Araragi gobbled this image up, which has enabled Hanekawa's extreme mechanism; this only makes it easier for her to avoid forming and accepting her true identity. A quick personal example of mine is that as a kid, I didn't want to grow up. When I hit adolescence, I basically spent all my time escaping reality by playing video games. I was avoiding both forming and accepting my identity that inevitably changes as time passes. It's no surprise when I hit my 20s I still had no idea who I was or what I wanted. In Hanekawa's case, she avoided doing the same by following her extreme code and refused to accept that she is irregular. Araragi enables her coping mechanism while Senjougahara immediately and directly calls her out on her bullshit, forcing her to confront it. Senjougahara is the perfect person/friend for Hanekawa in terms of actually making steps to grow as a person.

LETSS GOOOO, finally monogatari 2nd season. This was the season that pushes monogatari as a franchise into my no.1 anime spot. This was the season that made me think that character driven anime are absolute peak. The way nisio isin (the writer) wrote these characters are a work of art, so I hope y'all enjoy this season as much as I did when I first watched it.

So fascinating how well this story portrays perspectives. Now all of a sudden Hanekawa and by extension Senjougahara are the primary focus, Araragi comes across so mysterious and heroic, which makes total sense to how they would see him.

23:17 Nesa putting on that "And you. will. not. as. well." Even I got scared lmao. But I totally agree with the "refreshing perspective" that is Senjo/Hanekawa interacting with each other. What's funny too is you can totally see just how much Araragi has rubbed off on Senjo. She's so much more animated and silly than before imo.
