I agree with everything you said, but I wouldn't call Araragi dense. If anything, he's too much in his head about everything. If he doesn't seem to notice something, it's likely because he doesn't want to notice it.

I feel like araragi's feelings for hanekawa is a mixture of a lot of things that at that point love couldn't be used to describe it. Lust/physical attraction like tsukihi mentioned with an unhealthy dose of admiration and putting her on a pedestial. Add that with some hints that they gave out in bakemonogatari and this episode where hanekawa constantly puts on a facade/lies about things, hides behind the cat and have her do the dirty work. Those should be enough reasons for the guy to prefer being with a straightforward girl like senjougahara. Also the fact that he's dense af and as far as he's concerned, up to bakemonogatari and before black hanekawa let the cat out of the bag, he only knew of senjougahara that liked him and no one else.

And although he hasn't expressed it in words, it seems that for Senjougahara he wants to continue living. To die for you, to die with you, and to want to live for you.
