I think part of that is the show seems to go more from the manga who handled most things the same way as the show, while I hear the LN is a bit different from both. The manga was also easier to follow in terms of understanding what characters were thinking, and did a better job of explaining things a bit more than the show.

2025-07-09 11:27:21 +0000 UTCIt really does bother me how impatient the show is to get to "the good stuff" because it really confuses people on why things got the way they were. Like how Cid figured out Slime had like 99 percent magic conductivity and how he basically made them an endangered species due to the hunting of slimes. And what exactly possession is and what the people of the world think about it before showing him experimenting on a possessed person (Alpha). Not to mention the random flash forward and backward scenes confusing people even more.

But the part you may have missed is that while Cid knows his story was completely made up he now thinks everything else is a joke or made up. Meanwhile the girls actually discovered the cult was real and are now actively trying to stop it!. So the one who made up the story thinks it's all fake while the girls who heard the story know that it's real!
