I wouldn't say Tsukihi "ruined everything". I think Araragi led that conversation to come to this exact conclusion - that he's not in love with Hanekawa, he's just attracted to her.

2025-05-12 15:59:06 +0000 UTCSome people keep dates, but you guys seem to be smart enough to get all future chronology from context. Araragi never went for Hanekawa for the same reason he backed out in the storage shed: he idolizes her too much (discussed somewhere in Bake?) and does not feel worthy of her (Kizu 3). And on top of that, Tsukihi ruined everything with her advice this episode. So that's that. And Araragi seldom gets enough credit with his misdirections. More or less the other comments here already explained. It's kinda smart because it doesn't matter to him if the other person gets angry or starts laughing, he still accomplishes his goal.
My abba taught me a few things too, like how to rip the skin off by using my own mouth
2025-05-12 11:49:52 +0000 UTCAraragi is such a fun character lmao he's got a fairly strong inferiority complex so he's always tries to be *lesser* than others, doing stuff that he knows would lower other's opinion of him so they're less tense or nervous, willing to be the one to break the ice at his own expense for the sake of others. It's another part of his Hero complex in other words!

2025-05-11 23:25:36 +0000 UTCYou probably noticed already but just to make sure, this is indeed between Kizu and Bake! Araragi doesn't know Senjo yet, that's why he said he's never fallen in love with a girl before. The part where Araragi flips Hanekawa's skirt seemed like stupid fanservice but actually it's a thoughtful gesture from Araragi: He notices Hanekawa's bandage on her face and that Hanekawa seemed reluctant to talk about it (in fact at that scene the text on the screen flashed "Failure", as in Hanekawa failed to properly hide her face), so in an attempt to shift the conversation he did that instead. Hanekawa also clearly understood why Araragi did that which is why after she slapped him she also said "I know. You're kind, Araragi...." Same deal with the end of the episode of course: Araragi pretends to be perverted and acts like he's going to do something inappropriate but ultimately he just wanted to heal Hanekawa's bruise. There's a lot of understanding even in subtext between the two of them, it's really neat but also bittersweet as this arc will probably give you the answer as to why they didn't end up together...

2025-05-11 22:57:54 +0000 UTCAraragi is pretty good at reading people's moods and being able to subtly change the topic or focus of a discussion, especially if it makes him the brunt of the joke. Yes, he immediately "forgets" what they were talking about when Hanekawa says she will do anything...but who also forgot and is now focused on how silly Araragi is instead of her depressing home life? To prove this, as you pointed out at the end of the whole encounter he utimately ends up simply asking to heal her wound (even though he acts it out in just about the creepiest way possible.) Yes Tsukihi is great ^_^ and Chillih is right, she definitely comes across as very emotionally intelligent for her age. Thanks guys!

2025-05-11 22:44:51 +0000 UTCimo Karen is a genki-girl! One of my favorite archetypes. The timeline stuff can feel kind of cumbersome at times, but I think it adds to the drama of the Hanekawa/Araragi dynamic. If we'd seen it in chronological order, we'd feel more bitter about Senjou probably. Instead, now we're cemented in the Senjou timeline, and looking back just feels kind of sad like a 'what could've been'. One of my favorite parts of this ep is how they play with distance during the conversation about Hanekawa's dad hitting her. First they're walking together, then Arararagi pulls ahead excitedly. After finding out about the incident, the distances grows between them again as Hanekawa instead plows ahead trying to push through the conversation. I'm not sure I could really "analyze", but its clear its some kind of message about them not quite understanding each other just yet, and I think that's neat.

2025-05-11 22:23:25 +0000 UTCHaha, so golden week is after kizu. But in bake during hanekawaโs first arc you saw this flash back in ep 11 I believe and so we are inbetween kizu and bake
