Nisemonogatari Episode 4 Reaction

How exactly is Kaiki involved in the Karen situation, is Shinobu the new Oshino. So much is happening guys, let us know if we missed out on something or if we misinterpreted it!

Haha, Thanks for enjoying the reactions and also clarifying!

I've been binging your videos and really enjoying them. Yes, Araragi is basically using -chan as a diminutive (умалително :) ) which suggests he and his sisters are close and he openly cares about them. I think Hanekawa teases him about it because he always pretends to hate them.

She still loves him though so there is at least a part of it that's romantic. But I agree that it's on a different level than any other relationship.

You guys are mostly right about the -chan honorific. Little kids will sometimes refer to themselves as -chan as well when they're younger, sort of talking in a third-person way and it's meant to be a cutesy, child-like thing. Sengoku does this sometimes still. There are also instances where -chan is also used for like grandma, "oba-chan", so it doesn't necessarily have to be a younger/cute thing. More like a sort of endearment. Shinobu keeping quiet was just a result of her harboring resentment for him and his decisions.. She was pouting for the past few months basically.. being forced to live because of his actions in Kizu. But it's complicated because she clearly has some kind of feelings of affection for him. Not romantically, but more in the sense of care. Shinobu draining energy from Hanekawa doesn't mean she drank her blood. They mentioned earlier that she has sort of a special ability to drain energy from other aberrations which "makes her quite famous actually" - Oshino.

It's not just that Shinobu got bored and suddenly decided to speak. As someone posted on your previous reaction, characters will not necessarily simply spell out what they're actually thinking and feeling. In Shinobu's case, when Araragi forced her to stay alive, that undoubtedly caused a lot of turmoil and uncertainty that she had to work through. In addition to that, Araragi himself also needed to come to terms with what he did and think about what his relationship with Shinobu would be like. In the beginning, he was more avoidant with her (probably due to his own trauma), and that resulted in Shinobu growing more distant. But, at the end of the Black Hanekawa act, he called out to her and she saved him. He allowed himself to to be saved by someone else. This was a turning point (imo), where he reached out to her for help and she was there for him. Not only that, she didn't even have to save him. If she let him die, she would return to her full strength, but she chose not to let that happen. She reaffirmed her decision and the sense of connection she felt with Araragi. I think that incident helped her clarify her feelings on the matter, and allowed her to be more comfortable with actually opening up and speaking to Araragi like she does in this episode. There's a lot of depth to these characters, and I feel like I could spend a lot of time just reading analyses of this show.

This is one of the most important episodes with regards to Shinobu and Araragi's relationship, signaling the restart of their relationship, or as Araragi put it a reconciliation I always view Araragi and Shinobu's relationship as not romantic, but something beyond it, I mean they're literally around each other 24/7, more than even couples would be. it's such a unique and fascinating dynamic
