Vampires in this world have insane ability. Shinobu especially, she's special for a few reasons - she can drain other oddities and she has matter manipulation is two of them that are especially applicable. The monstrous power that Chillih mentioned is regarding Araragi losing his humanity is part of it. Araragi has mostly tried to not use the powers of a vampire throughout his fights. Most of the stuff that he's employed in order to win has been through the use of more "human" tactics. He used his brain to throw sand into the mist that was Episode, he used Aikido and baseball techniques in his fight with Draumaturgy. However when he's forced into a corner in order to save Hanekawa he resorts to an incredibly inhuman way of handling the fight. He transforms himself and starts to use these vampiric powers to change his being and thus "loses his humanity". The metaphor is multi-layered though as his desire to keep his morals is tied into what it means to be human (his sense of justice and desire not to kill) and his "power as a human" is as a result of his lack of personal relationships (from the first movie). He has not only violated this power and transformed himself into something monstrous but he has also done it for the sake of another. He's grown attached to someone else and thus has "weakened" as a result based on that mindset.

While Hanekawa helps Araragi out of self-satisfaction which is why she considers herself selfish, Araragi does it because of his hero complex which in most cases appears to be self-sacrifice, like in Bake when he lets Kanbaru beat him up, or in Nadeko's arc, and in the way he helped Kiss-Shot assuming that he will die to save her.
