Many of the points you talked about do get more background and explanation, including how the snake curses came to exist in the first place. If you're following the usual watch order, the next series Kizumonogatari gives a bit more of Araragi's mindset and his link to Shinobu, but something like 'origin' comes in later seasons. I think starting around Owarimonogatari?
