Yes, the notion of ignorance being "a sin" is a sometimes recurring theme. Lady Lishu's taster looked horrified when she realised that her little bullying prank might have actually killed her mistress. She had ill intent but she didn't actually want to kill her. Now she's been given the list of foods to avoid and told by Maomao that deliberately feeding Lady Lishu one of those foods could be seen as an intentional poisoning... well, I think Lady Lishu is somewhat protected now, thanks to Maomao. I love Lishu by the way. She's very sweet as I hope you will come to see. She's led astray a little by her ladies in waiting so she comes off at first a little snooty, but I hope she will grow on you.

2024-09-20 20:40:44 +0000 UTCOk, about the whole mother and daughter in law subject. You seemed confused and I don't remember them explaining in future episodes. First off, the high ranking concubines are often political appointments. Only high ranking families will have concubines in the top four positions. The concubines are treated as wives, although they are not considered to be Empresses. Lishu (the younger one) was the concubine to the current emperor's father when she was 9 years old. At that time the current emperor would have been around 30. The current emperor had a single concubine while he was the prince and that was Ah-Dou (the older one). When the current emperor's father passed away, Lishu returned to her family. Five years later her family sent her back to the rear palace to be the concubine for the current emperor at the age of 14. Since the concubines are treated like wives, Lishu (the younger) is treated as the mother in law to Ah-Dou (the older) from her previous marriage to the current emperor's father. This is considered to be scandalous to their society. As such the ladies in waiting for Lishu started bullying her. Lishu is naive enough to not even be aware that they are bullying her. Sorry for the long post, I hope this has helped you to figure out the relationships.

She is allergic to a few things and her ladies in waiting don't know that's a thing. Including her taster. She swapped her food with Lady Gyokyou's to bully her because she thinks shevis just being picky about not wanting to eat the mackerel. She wasn't trying to poison her, but by swapping the food like she did saved her from tasting the poison. Whomever tried to poison Kady Lishu really didn't think things through. If her taster got sick or died, then obviously Lishu would not have eaten the soup.
