Without spoiling anything, the anime is ultimately about the people that Violet influences while she is struggling to deal with her emotions that were locked away during the war. You'll notice that most of the narration in this episode was from Erica describing her interactions with Violet. There will be more of that. Just a warning, I would have some tissues ready for the next episode. It always strikes me pretty hard.
