Frieren Season 1 Episode 14

Comments

Yea it also gets you hooked in imminently, It's very rare for a show to make people cry on the first episode but this show somehow does it, Master class indeed!!

It honestly confuses me how this anime can get you so emotional with every rewatch. I've watched this anime 5 times with different people and it still gets me tearing up very hard and ugly crying every time. This anime is a master class in how to evoke emotions, without even having soent much time on the characters or the interactions.

Don’t feel bad. I’m a grown ass man and I teared up over this scene. It’s genuinely heartbreaking. Himmel could have been the love of her life but it takes her so much more time to process emotions and she didn’t see it. I hope that she can find love in her long life now that she knows what she missed. I think Himmel would want that for her.

Oh yeah totally forgot to warn you guys 😋 this episode really rips out your heart. What could have been... 🥺

A lot of people have mentioned that Fern’s bracelet has 3 petals which means it bloomed, ( their relationship is blooming ) while Frieren’s ring only has one petal, which means it hasn’t bloomed. ( their relationship didn’t begin ) as a contradiction of a small detail. I thought it was really meaningful the amount of thought and writing being put into this anime. I also cried this episode was well done

I definitely had nonstop tears for a while, it's absolutely brutal and tragic. The first episode/chapter (I read the manga first for a bit) got me as well. While the anime generally goes above and beyond the manga, there's this one iconic panel I'd recommend checking out that I was surprised they omitted/slightly changed in the anime. In the anime during Himmel's funeral, a woman inside the church comments about how cold Frieren is as she hasn't looked sad once yet. It shows her mouth opening and hides the rest of her face, and the first time we see her shed tears is outside when Himmel is being buried. In the manga, the image I'm referencing happens right after that woman's comment in the church. Frieren's full face is shown and the emotions hit her suddenly like a truck; not in the form of sobs, a sense of shock and surprise is conveyed as tears silently well up and stream down her face. Not only is it a beautiful image but I personally think it's more fitting upon learning Frieren's past in episode 10 and how a majority of the past 1,000 years were spent in isolation. I feel as if she's remembering something so primal she nearly forgot among all those years of isolation - the ability to feel such powerful sadness (or any deep emotion). It's like she's almost in disbelief of herself for nearly forgetting as she rediscovers/relearns this feeling. I also forgot to mention when Himmel recognizes the mirrored lotus ring Frieren picks out, a rare bit of sadness is clearly shown on his face in the manga as opposed to his instant accepting smile in the anime. It's a small detail but I appreciated it as it made Himmel a bit more relatable. Anyways, I loved both of your reactions and thoughts!

He didn't almost propose to her, he actually did but didn't say the words Frieren had no idea that he loved he, and is probably only now realizing it and that she may have felt the same way. This is an amazing show, and as nice that it is that Frieren is learning how to relate to people after 1000 years, and how shevis now realizing that Himmel loved her, and she may have loved him. It is an extremely tragic love story. He waited for her to come see him for 50 years. It is so frustrating, but to be honest, it's his fault. Throughout this show we here people saying that you need to tell people how you feel so they know. He never came out and said it. He should have said "i love you" or "will uou marry me?" When he hot on his knees and put that ring on her ring finger. Oh, and not only did i cry a bit at that scene. I tear up every time i see a reaction to it. To be honest i tear up at least once in at least 20 episodes of this show. The flashbacks just hit so hard in the feels

Sorry for not warning you hahah. Great reaction and discussion as always

Im glad to hear you felt like this as well, i can count on my fingers the amount of times i actually cried out loud on an anime.

A nice, honest reaction. Thank you for that. I cried my eyes out the first time I watched it and the scene with Frieren and Himmel at the end gets me every time. I think Frieren feels more than we as viewers realize. If you take a quick look back at episode 1, you'll see that Frieren plays very thoughtfully with this very ring after Himmel's funeral. Her thoughtful look in episode 12, when she rummages through her suitcase for a new gift for Stark, also suggests that this ring triggers something in her. Apart from the fact that you can even see the ring in the opening. I keep wondering if we'll ever find out if Himmel ever talked to Frieren about his feelings or if she was simply the love of his life without ever really being together with her. After all, it seems that he didn't start a family until the end of his life.
