The sword does not make you a hero, as much as not having the sword doesn't make you a fake hero. But still if Stark were to pull it out, maybe that would be like the easy way for him to regain confidence. OFC i have not seen anybody in Frieren take the easy way out by now so i doubt it but i believe it would be very fitting for him to pull it out.

2024-07-12 15:59:39 +0000 UTCWhat i love about this episode is how you can see stark recontextualizing his past trauma. You understand why he lacks confidence in himself (that and training under eisen without fighting against anyone else probably didnt do much to help contextualize his own strength). You also get to see how he has been blaming himself since he was young for running from the demons who attacked his village to the point where he didnt even remember the detail of his brother telling him to run. You also get a sense that he experiences some small amount of closure with his past in that moment, but its done subtly. It really could be a moment that they had a swelling of music a lot of tears etc, but its beautiful in how understated that moment was. I don't think stark or anyone needs to pull the sword, it would go against the message of the episode which is that a true hero is not born that but someone who takes their life into their own hands and makes themselves into one.
