I don't read Japanese well enough to have this knowledge from experience but my understanding, based on what my Japanese friends have said, is that the word, "Sousou", has a meaning something like, 'a mourner at a funeral' or, 'one who sees off another person' (like they are watching someone pass from life). This is the regular reading of the word which all readers of the Japanese manga understood when they first picked up the first volume of the manga. It never feels like an incorrect reading when reading the manga, especially as it begins with a big focus on Himmel's funeral, continues with Heiter's funeral and then constantly refers back to these people Frieren knew and who have now passed away. Reading "Sousou" as, "Slayer", is a valid reading but a very obscure one which would not occur to a modern reader of Japanese. So, when the demon uses the phrase, "Sousou no Frieren", in context, the hidden meaning of "slayer" jumps out at the reader and has that shock effect. Their understanding of the manga and it's title and main character transforms in an instant. The uncommon reading of the word as "slayer" also lends itself to the idea that this is the demons' name for her; it's a name from the past or from a very different culture. I'm told the effect on the reader is quite magical. Please understand that my Japanese is not perfect and my Japanese friends' English is not perfect. When we are trying to explain things to each other, especially abstract ideas, we kinda get the general meaning across but precise detail can easily get lost or misunderstood. Please correct me if anything I have said is wrong. I'm always more than happy to learn something new.

It's interesting that Linie refers to Stark as "nezumi" when they catch him trying to free the Graf. Nezumi means mouse or rat, so she is also thinking of Stark as a small animal. Hiki, is also used in context as "a small annoyance". It's not something that's going to be much of a problem. The big difference is that Frieren uses the term *after* fighting Draht, but Linie uses it *before* fighting Stark. She's definitely underestimating him before they even begin.
