For the characters in the show and also us as an audience, we as people want to empathize and project our humanity onto them, which is the very thing that they use against humans. Great writing. It also shows how only 7 episodes in we trust Frieren's judgement already in the face of what would appear to be racist behavior on her part to shoot on sight.
