There was no option, clearly stated in the quest "text", also they tried to murder them, and had murdered endless people before that. Given the option to kill some murderers that have already tried to murder you, or die, the choice is obvious. There is no moral conundrum there, not once you think about it with a cool head.

2025-08-27 07:26:09 +0000 UTC100% agree with Nesa here. I don't agree with the death penalty in real life, I think it's the hallmark of a backward and barbaric nation, so I'm not going to agree with it in fiction either. They deserve to be locked up, not murdered. However, if you're put in a position where you absolutely have no choice other than kill or die, you have to do what you have to do. The main character is not in that position, though. You were wrong when you said he has to do the quests and has no choice. The point is that he ALWAYS has a choice. There are consequences for failing the daily quests, sure, but he has to accept the quest in the first place. He can just reject the quest, then he can't fail it, then there are no consequences. Even with the quest here to kill the people who want to kill him, he has a choice. The system will mete out suitable consequences if he fails? As you pointed out, if he fails he would be dead so that's the consequence... except that's wrong. That wouldn't be the system imposing consequences on him, that would be him being murdered by the other guys. Nesa is correct that he could have just beaten up the guys and turned them in to the police; he has the skills to do it. That way he would fail the murder quest and the system would impose some penalty for that. At no point is he toid to do this or die. He chooses not to take this route because he wants to keep his secret. There would be too many questions if he, an E rank hunter, turned up at the police station with a group of C rank hunters that he'd mysteriously managed to overpower. So he chose to kill them for selfish reasons. He really is losing his humanity as you both said. I know you finished the series a long time ago so I know you've seen how far he falls from where he began. Even at this early stage he's barely recogniseable as the same character we met in the first episode. Even physically he looks different. I thought the story was starting to get scary at this point. It's still a good action series with lots of great battle scenes, but behind it all you start to see his humanity being stripped away. It's still exciting and full of action but it's also scary and sad, whilst still being fun to watch, which is difficult to pull off I think. It's not one of my favourite animes but I think they did a really good job mixing so many different emotions into the story and still keeping it fun.

2024-07-01 09:40:59 +0000 UTCI just subbed to your YouTube channel. I like your reactions and insights, even if opposing, because you discuss them nicely. Keep it up! =) Also joined your Patreon for free for now. We'll see how it goes.... Oh, and I'm with Chillih on this one, though I do understand your concern, Nesa.
