The Noble Trials Episode 6: The Wisdom of Memory [Early Access][M4A]

After a surprising announcement, you and Zaros leave Ýalosthe capital of Serullaand journey west. But where will this adventure take you, and will the close proximity spark memories of the past?

❀⊱┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄┄⊰❀

I am excited to give you the next instalment of Zaros' story! I swear, as each episode goes by, the editing gets more and more complex. But it's something new where I can learn and challenge myself. For this audio, I definitely had my work cut out for me, but I think it turned out pretty well!

The narrative is laid out for the next couple parts, but I still don't know how this will end. There is so much to explore with Zaros, Earis, their shrouded family history, and the world itself which is now opening up one layer at a time.

I hope you enjoy this episode!

It’s been one hell of a few days for me and I can’t believe I missed it, but this was so good 🥺 what a nice change of pace for the both of them to just let go for a second and not worry about the trials. Earis finally had a chance to be among the people, which is something they can learn from Zaros (they desperately need more empathy, knowledge and experience beyond the borders of their castle). This whole audio just felt really wholesome, and I dare say they were both charming in their own ways. I think both of them probably saw the sides of one another that they like the most 🤭 Zaros’ teasing demeanor was rubbing off on Earis a little bit, they responded in kind. Don’t think I’ve ever heard Zaros laugh as much as he did in this one! One step closer to marriage and a joined alliance (I’m jk, unless…. 👀). Thank you again for a fun installment Saku!! 💛 I hope you had fun creating it.

Mmmm……I’m thinking……marriage

aaaaa i love Zaros so much, like genuinely if it’s possible to fall for a character i’d definitely fall for him. Anyway! this is episode was the sweetness i needed after the last one. one way to illustrate how i felt through it was kind of like that one romance trope where one character only sees in dull colors until their love interest brings color into their life—which all felt so nice. Zaros feels like such a beautiful character, inside and out. Every new side to him is just such a joy to see, and he feels like the perfect person to bring color into Earis’ life (nevermind him being the only person for that position). moving onnn at first I was shocked to hear about the cheating plot being revealed so soon, and even more so at the guy being sentenced to death. my firsts thoughts aligned with what Zaros had said, but after reflecting i understand why such a drastic punishment was used despite the possible down sides as Zaros mentioned. while cheating in itself doesn’t feel like such a huge deal to us, the plot involved royal affairs and treating it with any leniency would have looked bad on the Queen. If she allowed leniency, it would have undermined and trivialized this issue which likely would have been taken badly by the public—let alone Nira—and have invited the nobles to try again. also, hearing the Queen slip up wasn’t something I immediately thought of as something deeper as I wrote it off as stress, but after reading Choco’s comment and reflecting a bit it makes sense that something like an illness could be affecting the Queen and forcing her to step down. If that’s the case, I feel even more sad for Earis as they can’t trust anyone with that information—if their mother told them at all. Roena is all Earis has, and if she truly is sick then it would mean that Earis will be entirely alone before long (either physically or metaphorically depending on the illness). aaa and then Earis pulling Zaros aside had me forgetting that they still had so many unresolved issues—even if it was only for a moment as that was instantly shattered. Nira and Roena talking about how Zaros’ and Earis’ relationship is being perceived by everyone else is so cute, i just wish it were that sweet behind closed doors too. but their conversation made it obvious once again that Earis still doesn’t trust Zaros and i am dying for the day that all of their past is revealed to us because i n e e d them to work through that </3 then the rest of the episode was just.. so nice to listen to. i love all the world building being done and obviously the new insights into Zaros and Earis. having them travel outside feels refreshing and learning about all the different towns and more into their past in addition to it is so nice to see. i wish i was better at writing so i could better express my feelings about it all, but the way Saku writes and makes these episodes is so beautiful and immersive that i just had to say that again. anyway, the banter between Zaros and Earis will always be my favorite love language istg. but their little excursion out in the town under the guise of anonymity was easily my favorite part of the episode. tracing back to what i said earlier, the whole experience felt so vibrant and heartwarming, especially when contrasting it to how Earis has been “celebrating” in the past. it really does feel like Earis’ life has been dull without Zaros, with him bringing up how they used to have dreams to visit all these different places whereas now its all the same to them—colorless and dull with their only purpose and goal being the throne. being alone in their room while watching everyone celebrate, and only having their mother to spend time with on the day of expressing love and care just felt sad to me. but i love how Zaros listened without judgement, which is something i feel like Earis needs. this all highlights their differences despite how similar they felt in the past episodes, with Earis being alone despite always being surrounded by others and Zaros seamlessly finding his place being surrounded by those who care for him despite being ostracized by everyone. He has so much love and care to give to those around him while Earis has none and is haunted by their deep distrust of everyone. I feel like this whole experience will rub off on Earis in more ways than one, and maybe some color will come back into their life by their own will instead of only with Zaros’ help. I can imagine them lingering outside after Zaros left, maybe going back to observe the towns people or exploring a bit like how Zaros suggested in the past since they have never done that before. i’m excited to see how their time with Zaros during this trip will affect Earis and their relationship as a whole. every new moment like these makes me more scared for the end because the last thing i want is for them to separate again after all this time together. regardless of who ever wins the trials, they likely won’t speak again—or at least not in this way. i imagine Earis would once again retreat back into their mask, and all the color they’ve gained will be drained again even if they win the trials and become the next eminence. i have a headcanon of what would happen to Earis if they lost, but i won’t get into it because i think it would be too depressing and too far into my interpretation of Earis </3 anyway! i desperately want their endgame to be the two of them together as co-rulers but i’m also not waiting for that ending because it would mean little excursions like this would be harder to come by. all in all, i loved this episode! thank you so much Saku for another wonderfully made installment of this series and i can’t wait for the next one <3

What a beautiful side of Zaros that we saw this episode~ (He really is quite the character.)

Death for essentially cheating is CRAZY work. I had no idea their plot would get uncovered so quickly, but I thought the worst that would happen would be imprisonment, interrogation, etc. I gotta disagree with Zaros on this one, this type of punishment will most definitely set a precedent as to how corruption of the trials is handled, and can serve as an example and deterrent for such behaviors. It sends a stronger message than imprisonment ever could. I still think it's a bit extreme, though I'm not going to question the Queen's methods. 💅 Speaking of the Queen, I'm more certain now that she's suffering from some illness (possibly Serulla's equivalent of early onset dementia), and that's the reason why she's stepping down. Her age checks out (I would've NEVER guessed that she was 55. She has such a youthful energy about her), her little memory hiccup checks out, and having her memory slip paired with hinting at the reason for her stepping down in the same audio is narratively suspicious. If this is the case, then it also makes sense why Earis spends so much time with her on the 9th of the 9th. Other than her being their mother and Earis not having any friends, it's probably a way to cherish the dwindling moments that they have left with her while she can still remember them. Also, with Earis knowing about their mother's illness yet not having anyone to talk to about it or comfort them…damn 🥺 It has to be hard to shoulder all of that alone. However, I do hope that Zaros and Earis’ relationship can develop to a point where Earis can trust him with this information. They both seem to be doing better now - less antagonist, more friendly teasing. Even the Queen and Nira are noticing that they've grown closer, which is…🤭. I mean, all of the little bits of Zaros finding Earis attractive, Earis being jealous of the pretty maid, and Zaros lowkey hinting at being open to sleeping with them if I was interpreting that segment right. They're both being a bit too obvious with it now. Y’all are supposed to hate each other.😏 But still, Earis has a deep mistrust of Zaros, because those accusations came out of nowhere. Willing to persecute Zaros rather than just simply ask their mother where she got all of that information from, which shows how much love, loyalty, and respect they have for their mother but Zaros is once again being blamed/accused for something he didn't do. And it's not like Earis had any evidence either, just going off of plain sentiment and impulse. I know it probably all stems from this mysterious letter, but it's all baseless. What's funny is that in their attempts at pretending they hate each other, their little scuffle with the letter proves that it's the opposite. Zaros seems extremely sensitive of the subject considering the fact that he refused to even get into it once the letter was mentioned, which is valid since it seems like the incident not only destroyed his reputation and character, but also socially isolated him, and then Earis still has so much lingering hate for him for whatever they thought he did back then (I am curious to know what else they were going to say when Zaros was about to leave 👀. Anytime this happens in shows I'm always thinking we were 2 seconds away from a love confession 😏). Both of them still being so emotional over something that happened years ago has to mean they cared deeply for each other once and still do now. I really want to know the contents of the letter and what went down at the academy, all of that juicy drama. 🤤🤤 And then there's their whole amicable night out on the town...yeah, they really aren't fooling anyone that they actually hate each other.🤭 Other than that, Zaros once again proves that he's more worthy to be ruler due to his altruistic deeds. However, I do think Earis witnessing these acts can get the behavior to rub off on them and hopefully influence them to be more altruistic in return. Also, this has to be the first audio where Nira doesn't annoy me, thank God. But the more I see Nira and the Queen, the more I'm confused where their husbands are??? I don't think either of them have even been mentioned in an audio, but I don't think they're both dead. So, where are they? Why does it seem like they're both practicing being absentee fathers??? 😬 Can't wait for the next audio in this series! I'm glad the world is expanding and we're meeting more characters. However, the next trial being outside the palace does worry me a bit, because of the lack of familiarity and security. I kinda feel that something bad will happen in the next trial since the Queen hinted at the schemers possibly trying to rig the trials again. Also, the music for this audio was fire! 🔥👌😍 The last song was especially beautiful.
